    If we're talking something like AC, then fair concern. If we're talking PU I believe the intent is for NPC crewmembers to be limited in availability, length of service with you, and require pay and accommodations beyond a simple even cut you might get from a player. Implementing morale of some sort where taking them into systems/situations they're not on board for will impact you in meaningful ways would also make for some interesting limitations. A combat mercenary with training on manning turrets and repelling boarders might be pretty useful... but they'd also be in high demand and you likely wouldnt find enough of them to crew more than a small/medium ship for a short time. Meanwhile Bob with basically no training in anything could probably sit his butt in any seat, but be about as effective as a panicky XCOM rookie. Regarding AI blades, I'd have to give it a longer think as that's another topic. I doubt any of the old info from way back is all that up to date.

    Regarding ship pilot vs turret strength, I think a good way to balance it would be to swap it around. For example, the Corsair, give the Pilot 6x S2 guns. Then give the remote turret 2x S4 guns and the manned turrets 2x S5 guns each. That would still give the Corsair a ridiculous amount of DPS but only when fully crewed. Regarding AI Blades vs. NPC crew vs. Player crew, instead of artificial limitations add performance/feature limitations and prices we should consider performance and cost. First, regarding performance. AI Blades should be expensive, aftermarket components. The cheaper ones just target and fire on the nearest attacker. More expensive ones could be set to PDS, nearest attacker, or pilot's target. Then NPC crew could be more effective than AI Blades, and cheaper up-front to hire. So, regarding the cost, because their expense is based on regular payments, perhaps a flat fee per day/month plus a percentage of every mission payout, NPCs would be easier to hire for a new player but more expensive over time. The drawback could be that their cheapest rate is for High-Sec space, then hazard pay for Low-Sec pay, then increased hazard pay plus bonuses in Null-Sec space with additional payouts for any deaths, including major payouts for any "Final Deaths."

    I wish SC just went to a sub model so we can stop selling ships and armor and weapons and land and hangars and money and other cosmetical stuff and make all of that ingame rewards. When I earn something someone else just bought with real money it lessens the rewarding feeling I get from achieving it. MMOs used to be so much better without micro and marco transactions.

    CIG doesn’t make money except from ship and skin sales. All of the combat capital ships aren’t even in the game yet. When they do good luck going anywhere. The game is a mess.

    These contested zones just need to provide gear, components, resources, etc., that make people want to farm them over and over. This is going to allow for great PvP, or alliance building. In respect to the asteroid bases, future base building needs to allow for our own version of this where we could actually build our own "Grim Hex". Refueling/Repair, player driven markets. These stations could allow us to make our own factions via giving us the ability to declare friend/foe and to be able to ban. CIG is already missing out on tons of revenue by not making armor/weaps into skins. People will be more willing to hand over money on something they won't lose. More ship skins wouldn't be too hard, so if they put more effort into producing these assets over inventing new ships to add to backlog..... I could go on, but all this game needs is for wide disbursement of resources people want and need and make them farm for it. We desperately need crafting, building, repair, markets, etc. to facilitate us being able to do the things that NPC's can. Then it'll be a game that is player driven with long lasting playability.

    Eve is just like this, too. You have lots of PVE, wormhole space even is mostly pve unless you're actively seeking out pvp. The best items (officer) comes from pve. Yes pve in 0.0 but still pve. My titan is fully fitted with officer items costing more than double the amount of the original titan and I have to have it or else my alliance is not reimbursing me for it in a fleet fight. The faction titans can only be farmed through pve as well

    loyalty stores as saleable items or keep for yourself have been proven effective since 2004 from eve to wow. maybe you get a mission on hurston or want to smuggle drugs, get a high hurston rep player to sell you the cool guy armor. win/win. also i am hurston security i will sell you my armor and then turn you in for cooler hurston armor and rep! get wrekt. also letting casuals who cant or dont want to join a player org but want to pvp align with an NPC faction helps bring more pvp. again proven in EvE faction warfare and the nearly 8 years of Gloria Victus and foxhole. players just want gang colors to rep. whether NPC faction or player made org skins. you want pvp and you want a lot of it, give players NPC loyalty stores and they will then fight amongst each other for said NPC faction and triple down to KOS player orgs; you also get NPC loyal player orgs for everyone that wants to hardcore pvp and lightly rp. only players with good npc rep can buy from loyalty store; doofs outside the npc grind can buy them for whatever reason they want. it lets players grind pve/pvp for an npc faction and lets orgs/players who wont but want to look dripped out can. maybe you want to wear hurston security armor in pyro but are 100 "criminal" and cant ever go to stanton safely. well now we have players running hurston security from the hurston rep boys to the pyro boys. aka npc faction rep stores are good and allowing those who have rep to buy them can sell them: Eve uses loyalty points currency to keep the grind for NPC goodies; some eve corps demand npc faction ships (pirate or empire) for the very specific buffs it gives. so for Hurston Dynamics you get a size 2 repeater that shoots faster or has more capcitiy or generates less heat or a combination there of; but you normies can't buy it you dont got hurston rep.

    Still watching the react. I kept it limited mostly to cosmetics in this video because it's a high level view of very basic mechanics. Cosmetics don't affect anything so I'm less likely to get spammed with comments about how I'm destroying the balance of the game.     AI crew will be the death of any future mmo experience. Capitals wont feel threatening or special. Instead of 25 people in one single Javelin, orgs like GN could have 25 npc Javelins to destroy everyone. What's gonna be the purpose of any ship that isn't a Javelin in PvP? Fleet battles are gonna be 100s of Javelins hooray, server's are definitely gonna be able to handle this. Even Solo's can now stomp Starter Systems and wreck new players in their solo Javs. And I agree that a good multi-crew ship should have most firepower distributed to the Crew. The currently best multi-crew ship (not meta-wise but how they should be) is the Redeemer. Big guns on the turrets, but well they nerfed it to the ground while a Corsair with a single pilot deals the same dps as 3 people in a Redeemer. death to ai

    Progress is cool and I realy want more progression systems in game. Crafting, building, rpg style skills (but not overpowering player skills) and so on. But progression without greater goal is hollow, like making money to buy better ship to make more money. Valheim for example have good progression system depending on building, crafting, prospecting and exploration (skills are only small bonus on top of this), but player do all of this things to kill all bosses, to complete all the challenges that Odin put on our path to Valhalla. Star Citizen has a rich lore, we can have a lot of such larger goals before us and they do not have to be marked by story quests, but as in the case of Valheim, built into the structure of the world, and the path to the goal would be marked with mechanics and progression.

    I think some people are worried that there not going to be able to solo kill a poiaris in there hornets ,becase the solo polaris owner with NPC gunners will obliderate anything that come close, truth is if you see a capitol ship you sould run in my opinion unlet you have a squad of fighters or another cap ship .... a cap ship should be almost unstoppable its like a Somalian pirate trying to take on a american destroyer , its just silly

    If this game didnt have so many time sinks and trolls I would say that NPC crews would be irrelivent. Crewing even a HH can take up to an hour to even launch. Not everyone wants to waste 1/2 of there play time getting people in their ship. There is noting wrong with NPC crews. Not to mention not everone wants to do engineering or a turret gunner etc. To your pitch, I cant agree with you and just so you know regardless if you have spent 40k on ships you still need to pay for upkeep, npc crew, fuel, rearm etc. NPC crewing these ships will be very expensive for a single player, you will not be able to do it all the time like other games.

    The PU isn't a competitive PvP environment. It never will be. No AI or Blades in Arena Commander makes sense to me and certainly they can be restricted in organized competitive events... but solo players are likely always going to be hulling they're vehicles or cargo around in Connies. We already know engineering isn't supposed to be totally essential but will give that edge to players who do choose to participate in it or keep their ships tuned up. Maybe it would be cool for CIG to provide functions for tournament organizers to offload roles of a ship... But what is the person who's controlling the fixed guns on the Connie going to do? Press the "shoot" button when the pilot aims on target? The PU should probably also provide some competitive environments where people can join something like a 3v3 arena battle in lore for PU rewards rather than all be located outside universe for Rec points.

    They need to build AI NPC design or modding system that allows away to contribute something substantial to the SC. With limitations IE. AI NPC blade build requires 1 pri, 1 sec, and Set Persona Alignment Primary: "Sit at Scanning/Radar" Secondary: "Relay details to pilot of threats" or "Collect scan details of targetted object" Personality: Chaotic, Neutral, Passive..like DnD has.

    I want to pretend I’m Wedge Antilles in my X-Wing and have Battle of Endor sized pvp engagements. Large fleet engagements that makes EVE the insanity it is, but with the added benefit of me being able to zip through the chaos of that in my F7. But if this game has no AI crew at all, we will never see this. We may have a few capital ships show up partially crewed, at best, for even those large battles because CIG has made manning requirements for these ships literally insane and unreasonable for an online game. That is coupled with the reality that most of those manning positions probably don’t seem fun for the *vast* majority of potential players.

    Personally, I don't like multi-crew. It's unreliable, it's not common, and its horrid playing a gunner. You do nothing, and not everyone has friends to interact with. There is so little gain, plus the game caters to pilot play, not gunner. And most of the players think in this way.

    I agree. I want to see ships operated by players with the amount of crew that's intended for them. I don't want to meet solo/small crew capitals, corvettes or medium sized ships unless they're being transported somewhere. I like the idea of engineering being a "gatekeeper" for multicrew ships. You just couldn't handle everything happening on the ship by yourself. Multicrew needs a buff!

    Given the direction they are going with server meshing I doubt AI will affect server performance in the future at all, AI will probably be run on separate servers that connect to the replication layer like (but are distinct from) the game servers. Taking into account the fact that your AI crew will probably be not as competent (at least in the beginning) as a human player...this should be a non-issue as far as unfair advantage. I do think that NPC's should gain skill over time (if they survive). The more important distinction is the ship itself, meaning, you might be a great dogfighter, but that doesn't mean you should win against a capital ship, with capital shields, and capital armor, while you are flying solo. IF you have a swarm of fighters, then yes, maybe you should be able to win, by overwhelming that capital ship, whether it's manned by people or AI crew, or has server blades to control the turrets. Bottom line: If someone earned enough aUEC to buy a capital ship, or paid enough $ to buy a capital ship, they shouldn't have to leave it moth-balled because they don't have a regular group of people or an org to run with. On the flip side, buying a capital ship shouldn't give you an "I win" card...and most likely won't. Groups of people working together with fighters and combat support/medium size gunships are most likely going to still win against solo-crewed capitals...even those with NPC crew and/or AI.

    The same arguments with regards to the issues with multi-crew ships are the same arguments to have AI-blades and NPC crew. If we are already going to bring 10 hammer heads, its better still to have NPC crew to repair, and operate turrets. Im my case I am a super casual, I have about 1 hour to play a game. Spending the first 50 minutes trying to get a crew for my redeemer isn't going to get me to enjoy the game. Accessibility is only possible once AI-blades and NPC crew becomes available. I will NOT play without it, I need the starfield mode for the game to become playable. (unless we get a rock solid multi-mission single seater long range fighter. maybe the F-8 will have a cargo bay.) In my case this is due to the casual nature of how I can spend my time. I am likely a majority of the playerbase = Full time job, full time home life, limited game time. However I recognize some balance is needed. I would not expect to pilot an Idris without real people involved. But say 6 NPC crew allows mid sized ships to be playable like a redeemer, cutlass, mole, caterpillar, vanguard. But would be too few for the larger capital type ships.

    Stop fighting against npc crews. I have played games like battlefield online and it was a pain just trying get four friends together. How hard will it be to crew an Idris with just players. If the problem is server performance that's cig's problem. This game is suppose to be 90 percent npcs. Also stop trying to nerf npcs, I don't expect them to be as good as the best players, but they need to offer some challenges.

    Ya can't have pure multiplayer MMO and be AAA. It sucks but it's reality. These are video games for entertainment and people don't have infinite time or flexibility to play with others. Every single hardcore multiplayer only MMOs have been very indie, with EvE maybe being the most successful, but even they have a healthy PvE community of content. Solo can't just be for single seaters and for SC to make money long term. This is a financial visibility decision. Sorry man this is just how the market is. PvP centric games struggle in asynchronous open PvP games financially. And SC is too expensive to survive without AI.

    I was thinking there should be a limit. Per ship, not player, so 2 real people can't fully crew a hammerhead. However, 2 people in my opinion should be fully capable of using 2 NPCs to fully crew, say, an MSR. So long as it allows players to enjoy more of the game, I dont think a 2 NPC per ship limit would take away the majesty of having a fully crewed Idris, but tons of gameplay loops suddenly become possible and enjoyable for the people without too many friends. I admit, this all does have the requirement that NPCs are not as effective as a real human.

    Yeah, large multi-crew ships should require the pilot to have spend their entire time flying and if you want the guns to fire you need a co-pilot to fire them. I think the way you limit npcs is by making it so you have to actually employ them and it costing a lot of UEC, only a limited amount of npcs available at a station, require rep to hire and AI blades costing a lot of EUC and they get damaged or even destroyed very easily. OH, and make sure they are not as good as having a real player. Make fuel costs massive for capital ships where consumption sky rockets if you want to go through a planets atmosphere.

    If the Connie's weapon sizes were swapped between the pilot guns and the Turret, the ships would feel more right for multi-crew... 2xS4's on those turrets and 4xS3's on the pilot guns. Now that makes more sense or is that just me? Make Turrets become something to fear.

      I agree completely, this was in the back of my mind the whole time. Move the huge weapons to the turrets and multicrew experience rather than discouraging multicrew by only giving the pilot majority of the ships power

      @@Ver9jl My expectation for actual resolution lies in licensing, qualification, and reputation systems to function as a gatekeeper of progression with the avatar itself, not the ships owned IRL by the player. I've read robust write-ups on Spectrum about how this would work and if implemented, serves as an effective firewall to the pervasiveness of the kind of problems you've highlighted. I agree it is a problem, but the solution you've offered makes for bad lore and behavioral control systems. The answer is to create a continuous supply side solution in a paradigm where only demand currently exists,
