Fresh Inspiration for the Front Porch | Gardening with the Williamses
It's time to add fresh new containers to our front porch that will add not only color, but beautiful texture too. This combination is sure to impress. I love the lush green that ferns can bring to a porch area, but by adding some incredible new Solenia Yellow Begonias from Proven Winners, these containers shine and look beautiful. Join me as I get them ready for their new spot on our shady front porch.
The fern and the Creeping Jenny can be found at many garden centers, however, this begonia variety may be harder to find. Here's more info:

Do This and Create More Space for Colorful Annuals! |Gardening with the Williams'

Hello everyone. Sometimes we can have those shrubs that get overgrown and they can take up more space than we would like to see in our space. This space can now be utilized to add color interest to a rather dull area while we wait for our boxwoods to flush out. It was a h...

      Thank you for that. It was something new to try and I didn't think much about it, but yes, it's fine and thanks for your affirmation. It will be just fine that way. Yes, we have quite the dry summers here. We get most of our rain in Jan and Feb with only about 10-13 in per year, however the past two years were amazing. This year we had over 30in. A HUGE blessing.

    Great combination. You said you fertilize once a week but I thought begonias don’t like to be fertilized especially PW. Maybe I misunderstood??! TYIA

    • @williamsgardening
      @williamsgardening 16 днів тому

      Good point! Yes, you're right they don't require heavy feeding, but I have found that they do benefit from having a bit of water soluble. I don't add much, but just a touch. I make sure to feed from the front where the supercells are planted since they benefit the most from the weekly feeding. I can verify that my Surefire White Begonias that I planted last year ended up looking iron deficient until I gave them periodic water soluble. That fixed the issue and they ended up stronger and emerald green. This was especially true of the ones I had in containers. The tag on these Double Up Pink says to fertilize regularly for best results. Thanks for posting that comment.

      You are so welcome! I am so glad you found the video helpful. Thanks so much for your kind comment! Yes, I agree. I used to use another "name brand" but since I've changed, the difference has been incredible to see. Love their products too. Have a great day!

    With that much fertilizer, I’m concerned that pests will be attracted to the lush new growth.

      Absolutely a valid concern. As of now, I haven't had any issues but I do watch for that. If I have an aphid problem, a quick treatment with RoseRx does the trick. It's effective and it is organic. So far so good, but I will keep an eye on them for sure. Thanks for taking the time comment. Have a great day.

    Wire hanging baskets have plants inserted through the sides, not all on the top

    • @williamsgardening
      @williamsgardening 19 днів тому

      Yes, I’ve seen ones that are made for side inserts, however there is no need to plant these annuals that way because they will trail over the sides up to 3 1/2 feet. Kinsman also has the baskets you’re speaking of. Pretty cool.

    New subscriber! I absolutely love how they turned out. I too rescue plants if I find any on sale. Last year just towards the end of the season this store that sells pretty much everything including garden things and plants. We saw a rack of different flowers two years ago. They were free. I was like what? So I grabbed several I liked even though they looked almost dead. Took them home. Trimmed them all up. I am in a few Facebook plant groups. I posted them all asking what they were. Tags were missing. 😢 I found out they all were perennials. It blew my mind the store was just giving them away. After trimming them they in the ground except one. Fertilized them all and watered them. I was surprised at how wonderful they were after a couple of weeks babying them. I still have them. Last year we went towards the end of the season and same rack. Free plants. So this year and every year from now on we are going to that store and look to see if they have free plants. Last years freebies were as wonderful as the year before. And we already had the soil, fertilizer and pots from previous annuals. So it costed us basically nothing to plant them. Last year they also had cherry tomato plants for free. So I saved it. Even if they were or aren't free but 50 to 75% off and looking not so good I will buy them and do exactly what you suggested. Thank you for sharing this. I look forward to seeing more videos. Have a great weekend

      Hello there and Welcome Denise! Thanks so much for subscribing to the channel. Glad you liked the video and I love what you shared about your story reviving your free plants. That's the best! I would love to get my hands on some free plants for sure. Keep it up and thanks again for your most kind comment. See you in the next video. BTW: I just found some more and am looking forward to using them in a new way. Lots of ideas. Clearance plants are great to experiment with. More videos coming soon. Happy gardening new friend!

    All of your videos are great, but this is one of my favorites. So cool to see how you were able to let these stellar Proven Winners plants shine, so satisfying. The key ingredient is you ... having the patience, ability and knowledge to care so well for them. Your whole garden reflects how good you are with plants. 👏✨️👏✨️👏✨️👏

      Hey Manny. So glad you liked the video. This one was one of my favorites to share too. In fact, I had a hard time keeping patient until the right moment... They were doing so well, I wanted to post something about 3 weeks ago. Thanks again for your kindness and encouraging comments. See you soon my friend. Until then, happy gardening! 🌱
