  • Welcome to our small Southern California garden. I am really excited to share with you what we have growing this summer. It's been a great year so far and I wanted to share before the intense heat that summer can bring. Join us as we showcase our annuals, perennials, evergreens and even a bit of Ben's vegetable garden. It's always great to take time and relax in the garden...even a small one. :)

Great pacing I really appreciate you not rushing through.
I was wondering if you contacted PW about the Begonia mistake.
I love the color, but they seem to get leggy. Maybe tucking two on each side would make them look fuller perhaps?
I was curious how the Begonias looked in the front planters at your parent's house? The Surefire Red is surely looking beautiful.
Bravo on the Ficus save! What a great come back. That tree has a strong root system.
Love the Lemonade basket! I think I'd have that color scheme everywhere since it plays so well with your walls!
Oh and shout out to your AV man. Maybe he needs a drone so we can get aerial views now? 😉

D'anna!!! Thank you so much for taking time to comment on so much. You really made my day with your encouraging words! Okay, so here's some answers to your great questions....
      1. The begonia mistake was fine, so I didn't contact them. In fact, I was glad, because I see that the growth habit of the new Cherry Cordial variety is a little more leggy than the rose. That one seems to be more compact. Still they are very pretty and I was fine with it.
      2. Love the recommendation to plant two closer together. I think that suggestion will work fine... see my next reply below....
      3. So, my mom's begonias are AMAZING!!! Seriously, since I planted 3 in each pot, they are full and just beautiful just as you suggested. Really, they look UNREAL. I plan to do a video update as my next video. I can't wait to share. They look so professional and are probably some of the most stunning containers that we've ever planted. Stay tuned for that. Thanks for asking about them.
      4. Thanks about the ficus. I really was worried. I learned a lesson with that one. Sometimes we can over-love our plants so I gave it a break from amendments and I really do thing that's what it needed while it recovered.
      5. Yes, the lemonade is wonderful. Such a different color combination for sure. I bet yours is just as beautiful as you've described. :)
      6. I will let my son know that. you said he did a great job filming. He will get a kick out of that. :)
Again, thank you so much for taking the time to cover so much. Sometimes we wonder if we're doing making videos that people can enjoy and inspire . You're much appreciated. Have a great. day and happy gardening!!

I cannot believe your superbells? I am babying mine with this heat but maybe I should be just letting them stay in all the sun?? I am in Covina so super hot but maybe you are a bit closer to the ocean.

Thanks Elaine! Yes were about 5 miles from the beach and that may have something to do with it. I love them though and I do notice that they need extra care when it's super hot. Maybe a spot that get's morning sun would be best. (That's probably what you've already been doing.) Still the hot heat has a way for zapping our plants. Hang in there. :) Thanks for stopping by and visiting. :)

Love your container garden and the tulips from your last video are beautiful. So sad that I was late to the party about colorblends. I wanted to know what soil/fertilizer you used for your containers. I’m looking to plant some supertunias in the upcoming week or so. I’m a beginner gardener also in Southern CA.

Hello again! Thank you soooo much for taking the time to share your most kind comment. You've made me think that I should probably do a video when I'm ready to order. I would love to share that so that everyone could do the same if they are planning to do the same. As for my containers, I use Miracle Grow Moisture Control soil, and I use Plant Tone or Flower Tone from Espoma. I will also give the flowers some water soluble fertilizer every two weeks or so. Every week or two I also give them a bit of Proven Winners water soluble fertilizer: www.amazon.com/Premium-Water-Soluble-Fertilizer-Container/dp/B00H9H1PLA/ref=sr_1_1?crid=9S6RBLTZKM73&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.SlKwsvWVsyWaBEx16ypWwMLg5E8qF27nz_XEFJ4BvswfWPXZw6KDKvhU0raUZEzrzMgf-xeCAyhE_wa90ArdwVMJfeSp8yO9VX3-NjibDxa_4IXsktatg59A9xSs0AlP3siVPS1m3-bOJfU1RwOyp7XpiE2Pdo6Qo5war8IXTxLDvXH98WggtMIlu6x05yJhkVIGQ-38x8NHfFd3cDJfB9wvHFvCwMjofRzCf52Zwz7yfWulNIunpzw-o3KlbFhT-AHt3jVkuXrCiS0jxhpyBQXf09TI_DGOkQ6lnbQb4Ec.60zAkPZM7tgPY0ZHSrHElJU2WH0AVa2UezJPcPQDqPo&dib_tag=se&keywords=proven%2Bwinners%2Bwater&qid=1711213321&sprefix=proven%2Bwinners%2Bwate%2Caps%2C147&sr=8-1&th=1

Great video and Happy Anniversary to you and your wife.
May I suggest you test out a small area and mix 1 part mushroom compost and 2 parts soil. It worked great for one of my gardens but maybe see if it could help your side garden. Just test it first since I am in a different zone 5.
Lastly your garden is beautiful and I like the way you showcase each vignette. They stills would make beautiful card's for Birthday or Get Well cards or anytime cards because the flowers all look that great💫

Manny! Great suggestion! I am so going to do that. That's why I love this format, I get to connect with a community of gardeners with experience that I can learn from and share with. I really appreciate you taking time to comment and share. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. Also thanks for the anniversary well-wishes. Happy gardening. Until next time...

Hello there. Yes, we do. Once a year we give them Plant Tone from Epsoma. The ones that are in the containers will get more since I have the annuals underplanted. The water soluble fertilizer doesn't seem to bother them at all. Here's the link to Epsoma:
