    That is a really cool television! What is there not to like about it with the flip clock and retrofuturistic design!! I would love to have one of those myself to tinker with! I remember a colour set in europe around the 80's that shared a similar design to the videosphere called the Philips Discoverer.

    Guessing you meant metres and not miles .... also you can't have an altitude unless it is relevant to a physical body or planet :)

    • @VintageGamingMemories
      @VintageGamingMemories 7 днів тому

      Haha.. No, I did mean miles and not metres. You'd have to figure even at the maximum height/distance in the game which is 99,999 miles it's not that crazy because earth to the moon is over 225,000 miles and we're talking about space fighters going against alien spaceships, lol. Plus it does state miles in the manual. But with altitude, it can be "thought of as an abstract concept" so no revelance to a physical body or planet. Thanks for getting me to use my grey matter.

    They seem to make decent keyboards, quite happy with mine, i picked a M75 in the same color range and only changed switches because i prefer tactile over linear. i guess competition is so big on this market that a lot of even budget keyboards are very good for a vast majority, not as good as a custom but quite decent nonetheless.

    1:20 It's worth noting that weather radios are not by any means obsolete. The Wireless Emergency Alerts system that allows our smartphones to warn us of a hazard can fail for any number of reasons, and you can only reliably hear a tornado siren when you're outside. Redundancy is very important when it comes to this. You can get a modern NOAA Weather Radio that has SAME functionality, which will allow the radio to remain silent until it hears an alert for your area, only then activating.

    • @VintageGamingMemories

    Question, does that battery corrosion advance even after the bad batteries are removed until it is cleaned or does it all just stop not worsening until it's cleaned?

    • @VintageGamingMemories
      @VintageGamingMemories Місяць тому

      Since that corrosion is a form of chemical reaction, it would not advance unless the leaking battery remains. It can however weaken the terminals because current will continue to pass when a battery (good or damaged) is in place with the existing corrosion. It can also affect a battery's casing when in contact and then may create a leak. I always remove batteries on items I rarely use or I use a no-leak / lithium type battery when possible. Great question.

      @@VintageGamingMemories Exactly. It's so funny also how just the aesthetics and art design built into old treasures like this will have enmeshed itself into your subconscious preferences later in life. I remember admiring the manner they used the limitations with the graphics very creatively, like how the red lights served as the horizon, the runway, the bullets, and even the flickering thrusters on the enemy craft. I remember wishing there was some way to look out of the cockpit other directions, but when a game is fun regardless, it's a mark of excellence. Being a half-ass art-minded kid myself, I remember wishing they had a different approach to the explosions. I wish, instead of the rays that converge in the center, they had instead had concentric circles (rings) blowing outwards/larger from the center. I think that woulda looked better,... but I seem to have not been invited to the designers' brainstorm sessions. LOL. Anyway, the few games with real-lighted displays like this also served nicely as toys, like I'd arrange them along the "walls" of the tall Mattel Death Star playset to appear like computer displays, etc. for the figures. Fun times.

      @@Cre80s I totally envisioned what you mentioned, lol. The funny thing is when I made this video in my workshop, I had a small sense of realism with the concept of takeoff-flight-fight-landing. Probably because my workshop has no windows and I had the lights down and I was very tired 🤣. I would love to have heard meetings on these game designs too. Thanks!

      Thanks for checking this out. You're right about it being bulky. I should had mentioned that it didn't have a great feel in my hands when I played it off camera as a "handheld" but in the video I had it on the table top so it was okay.

    I love the name "Star Hawk". What did you use to buff the scratches out of the screen? Also love that you used like an outerspace backdrop for the gameplay footage, that is such a cool nice touch!

      Thank you! I'm glad you liked the video. Yes, 'Star Hawk' is definitely a catchy name. Makes you wonder what it's all about if you had not seen it before. For the scratches I use the Novus plastic polish products - novuspolish.com/ You can also get this on Amazon for $20-25. Novus 1 was all I needed with this item but for deeper scratches you'd use Novus 2 and 3. It's an awesome product that I've been using for years going back to cleaning my pinball playfield. Thanks!

      @@VintageGamingMemories I'd love to know more about how you cleaned the chassis itself? (Not the display - Novus is amazing.) :)

    • @VintageGamingMemories
      @VintageGamingMemories 28 днів тому

      @@GregMaletic Believe it or not, I'm pretty simple when it comes to cleaning the "plastic" / chassis. If there's no delicate stickers on it, I first start with disinfecting wipes that are bleach-free (e.g Clorox). I dry it down then I'll go with the Novus 1 also on the plastic/chassis. If I want it to pop a little, I will use Armor All afterwards. Sometimes the not-so-bright shine on plastic is more like how it was originally. I've never had any paint or blemishes with this method of cleaning but I never buff it too fast or with too much pressure to cause that to happen. Also everything is wiped and polished with using plush microfiber towels to avoid scratches or swirl marks. I think a couple of my first videos I might have shown this method but since then I've edited out to get right to the video content. Thanks for asking and for checking the video out. I appreciate it!

    Had Ms. PacMan, PacMan, Donkey Kong, & Zaxxon. Great for car trips. Problem was, they took 4 or 5 C or D size batteries. Was always going to Radio Shack for these.

      That's a nice bundle! Yeah the batteries make it a costly toy. I know they had rechargeable batteries back then but they were pretty expensive too. I guess that's the price we (our parents) had to pay for having the coolest toys in the early 80s 😁. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks for checking out the video. Good suggestion on the 3amp. I do recall testing my 800XL plugged into a Kill-a-Watt to see the flow of amps shown. The 800XL was modded and I had the Lotharek FujiNet plugged in and turned on which was fully powered from the SIO. I think it showed just a bit over 1amp so hopefully I won't have any issues but I get what you're saying 🙂

      @@VintageGamingMemories Yes, I expect you would need U1MB, Side 3, and FujiNet all together on one system to have trouble. With it being a fuse as opposed to just a current limit, if the system needs more power, the fuse will blow and it will be obvious.

      @@pfcrow Actually the 800XL I used has the U1MB installed and the large Lotharek FujiNet plugged in but I didn't have my Side 3 cart inserted. I may need to test with the Side 3 inserted to see how much it's pulling and if it blows the fuse. Update to follow 😉 Thanks for the suggestion.

    We had the Mickey Mouse version when we were kids, and I was thinking about it a few months ago for no reason. We used the really flick that wheel hard to make it spin as fast as we could to make Mickey REALLY dance. Kept us entertained for longer than it should have. Give that to the current iPad generation of kids...they will scoff and chuck it over their shoulder and move on with their lives. And the Tomy Pocket Games Obstacle Course...I LOVED mine. One day at school I had it in my back pocket, and a girl I liked pushed me down on the playground and it cracked into bits when I landed on my butt. I never forgave her for that...to this day. LOL

Fortunately she only broke your Pocket Game and not your heart 🤣 We must have been on the same Z06 wave frequency to have thought about this Disney Dancer, lol. I ended up trying what you mentioned about spinning the wheel hard and it spun for a good few seconds after I stopped with Mickey's feet stuck in his back 🙂. Thanks for sharing those memories and the good chuckle!
