    I don't get how we have same level of wheel wear yet I've only used mine for 4 months, rotating wheels every week, me weighing only 51 kg, using stepping plough the vast majority of the time to slow down and stop, only power slide 10% to 20% of the time. Although I cruise with these skates 25 to 30 kph doing double push, 140 to 180 km per week, and slow down and stop very often because I skate in crowded roads with cars, cyclists, motorcycles, and sometimes joggers too. Other than that, I have absolutely no complaints with my MF900. No discomfort anywhere and I have not modded mine. I'm only even wearing thin socks with it and do distance skating for 3 hrs nonstop over poor quality roads so I'm jumping a lot too. My MF900 is quite dirty already and the steel parts are rusting.

    I used to cycle and run. I still cycle but mostly for errands, commuting, to get to my favorite skating spots, and recon/recce potential new skating spots! I stopped running because it's giving me acid reflux and also gave me shin splints. My shin splints are gone. Healed on its own. But I'm not going back to running. Cycling is still the least problematic. But skating is the most fun!

    Cześć, czy Ty formowałeś skorupę buta pod swoją stopę ? Miałem mf500, ale po każdej jeździe miałem pelcherze na wewnętrznej części stopy. Sprzedalem mf500, po tym kupiłem Rollerblade twister edge . Też były nie wygodne , bardzo cierpiałem. Aż w końcu odkryłem że za pomocą nagrzewnicy można odformowac skorupę pod swoją stopę . I teraz żałuję że sprzedałem mf500- one są mega fajne . Sorry za mój angielski). Pozdrawiam z Polski . P.s jesteś z Anglii ?

    Why does the parrarel slide and power stop look like the same trick to me, is it the same thing? I've watched Bill Stoppard's videos and still don't get it.

    • @RichHayterSkater
      @RichHayterSkater Місяць тому

      @@cosmos7engineer Yes, they are very similar. My understanding is that the power stop is meant as a stop not a slide. Sliding will naturally occur but this should not be the goal, and skates don’t need to be parallel. The parallel slide is an actual slide, skates should be parallel and the goal is to actually slide. The entry to both is similar, though for parallel slides, I try to let my outside skate lead a little more.

      @@andym2097 It depends… for beginners, MF500 because 4x80 is easier to learn with. For commuters, those who care about skating for mileage, or who are already experienced with a 4x80 setup, the MF900 would be a good option. Personally, I have both and love both!

    I don’t understand how you get the speeds you do. I have a pair of k2 80 boa skates and cannot get close to the pace you have on your videos. Do I need a new setup or is it just a case of increasing leg strength?

    • @RichHayterSkater
      @RichHayterSkater Місяць тому

      It’s probably due to technique than leg power. It’s amazing how technical tweaks can improve your pace and help you maintain momentum. It’s all about working with your edges, and trying to get more confident on that outside edge, specifically. I made a short several months back, detailing 3 ways to improve your stride, might be worth checking out it out. 👍

    Upon reflection, the power slide is likely one of the most reliable, most accessible, and safest of all the stops available. To continue off my previous comment, I've been drilling the power slide the past couple days and noticed there is a very healthy margin of error. Even when you don't get it perfectly, you still have that support leg anchoring you while the other one slides. Other stops have their notable drawbacks, i.e., especially the riskier ones where both feet are sliding simultaneously (parallel slide, power stop) or won't stop you fast enough (soul slide, t-stop). The power slide is such a clean winner in my opinion.

    • @RichHayterSkater
      @RichHayterSkater Місяць тому

      @@rcfong79 My thoughts exactly. The power slide acts as an extension of my power stop, If I feel unstable I can simple push out into the power slide for stability. As a stop, it’s less effective than the power stop, magic slide, or parallel, but it’s easier to learn, requires less skill, and offers a nice blend of stability & efficiency most skaters will be comfortable with. I’ve be focussing on the Magic for a while now, and it’s quickly becoming a firm favourite! I’ll share more on this in the future.

    • @rcfong79
      @rcfong79 Місяць тому

      @RichHayterSkater That’s such great perspective. And the idea of using the power slide as a way to bail out of a impending power stop failure….that’s brilliant 🙂. But you’ve been skating for a while now and this video is a few years old. Just curious - what stop were you using before power slide, magic slide, and power stop?

    • @RichHayterSkater
      @RichHayterSkater Місяць тому

      @rcfong79 Power stop was what I used most, and still do, I only learned to magic slide a year or so ago, and only recently have I progressed it to point where I’m comfortable enough to start using it on the fly. It’s a great stop!

    • @rcfong79

      @@RichHayterSkater yeah I saw you on that magic slide tutorial with @SkatefreshAsha . Great stuff. But your mention of the parallel turn as the basis for performing that second type of power slide was key for me in learning how to achieve it within 2 tries (I decided to go for that one first). Your explanations and detail are worthy of recognition. And of course you brought in Sub-Zero from the 90s - a nice blast from the past 😂. I'm not an expert, but that's what I think, but I'll forget about the 110-125 and get the 90mm. Later I'll get some 110-125 for any other special occasion. Thanks a lot and kind regards.
