Hi Claire - how/what do you use to clean your potatoes before cooking? I always feel like I am not doing a good enough job prepping
Hi Danielle, I clean them the same way I do with other produce (soak them in water and baking soda for about 5 minutes), and then I scrub them with a brush! I feel you, I'm always worried about how clean they need to be, especially because I eat the skin! I do my best to buy organic, clean as much as possible and then don't worry about the rest! You could also always peel them too! Hope that helps 💚

What are thoughts about alcohol? I love to have one drink at night to wind down. Is this so bad?
So alcohol is considered a class 1 carcinogen and in addition to this we know that it is can significantly damage the liver. Because of this i generally recommend that people keep alcohol intake to a minimum. I generally have a drink every few months! Hope that helps 💚
Thank you for the informative video! I’ve been adding a lot of fibre to my diet and drinking water, but I become very bloated and have gas. Do you experience the same?
So I don't get bloated from a high fiber/ high water intake, if anything it helps my digestion. If you are upping your fiber it is important to gradually introduce fiber-rich foods into your diet. If you are still getting a lot of gas and bloating it may be a sign that the digestive system needs more support! Hope that helps 💚
Dr Ken Berry and Dr Sean promote eating meat and no vegetables or fruits. Hmm😮 what is your thoughts on eating this way?
So there is really no evidence that eating fruits and vegetables is bad for us. In fact, the overwhelming evidence shows that these foods are great for us! These doctors often reference small measures of action as their rationale for these diet recommendations, which do not take into account the full impact these foods have on our bodies! I hope that helps 💚

What are your thoughts on holy basil seeds vs. chia seeds? I love tulsi tea and want to try sprouting the seeds and also using for puddings.
I think that they are both great! In terms of holy basil vs. chia, they are both super nutrient-dense; Basil seeds can be higher in certain nutrients and fibre, but chia has more omega 3. So I would say you could use both, or whatever one you prefer the taste of! Hope that helps 💚

What would you say is the most important/relevant bloodwork to have done almost a year post partum? I am still have very long and irregular cycles (this was an issue before pregnancy too) and am going down the PCOS fact finding mission right now but not sure exactly what I should be looking for.
So, for PCOS, the diagnosis is made with the Rotterdam criteria, so you could speak with your health care provider about that. In terms of bloodwork testing, FSH and LH can be helpful for assessing PCOS. Coming off of pregnancy, you want to be looking at nutrient stores (especially iron), thyroid function, liver funtion, lipids and infalmatory markers. Hormonal testing may be helpful, although that may depend on if and how long you brest fed for. Like I said in the video, PCOS is closely associated with insulin resistance (we know that this often drives the high androgens in that condition), so getting a thorough assessment of blood sugar control can be helpful. Really looking 1:1 with someone who can take your case and determine the best bloodwork and next steps for you is best! Hope that helps 💚

Not a silly question at all! I boil them in big batches for 8 minutes then right into cold water and in the fridge! Hope that helps 💚

High cholesterol and diabetes runs in my family. I'm always borderline high in my cholesterol levels and that's why I'm trying to improve my diet and eat more plant based. I was curious about your cholesterol with the amount of eggs you eat. What are your thoughts around eggs and cholesterol? I don't have them regularly, but I do enjoy them from time to time. I get my blood work tested in Nov and hope I see some improvements. With healthier eating I've also lost about 10lbs since last Nov. Very interesting video thank you for sharing your knowledge!
So in terms of cholesterol we know the 2 main factors in the diet are saturated fat and fibre. We know now that dietary cholesterol does not significantly impact blood cholesterol. With that being said eggs can contribute to cholesterol through their saturated fat content. Right now I am working on keeping my saturated fat under 10% (consist with the guidelines). So I may start to decrease the eggs over the next few weeks! It sounds like you are on the right track with your health, so hopefully you see improvements in November! We also know that particle size/ quality matters when it comes to LDL, so testing that can be helpful as well! Hope that all helps! 💚

What does "deficiency in glucose insulin interaction" mean? I came across this while reading and I didn't quite understand it. What tests sort this out, the ones you talked about today? My current goal is better sleep. I'm post menopausal. I did a dried urine test. My cortisol was ok, but most everything else was way off. I made an appointment with my gyn and basically she said, "what do you want me to do about it? I never test women this far into menopause so?" I've been focusing on blood sugar balance (# is normal) and stress. Are diet strategies mainly about blood sugar? What in the diet optimizes hormones? Thanks!
So a deficiency in "glucose-insulin interaction" can sometimes refer to insulin resistance. As I said in the video, the 2-hour insulin glucose challenge test is the best test for assessing insulin sensitivity. Thank you for sharing about your health journey. I personlly also do not use the DUTCH hormon test in women who are in peri menopuase or meopuse, for the reason that we know that the hormones will be low. I find that comprehensive blood work and DEXA scans are much more applicable. The diet strategies that I discuss here are helpful for metabolic and hormonal health. As we move through menopause, our risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes increases. I also tell women in menopause that protein requirements increase as we tend to lose more muscle (so pairing it with strength training is important). Our risk for osteoporosis also increases, so making sure we are getting enough calcium and vitamin D is important. Hope this helps, thank you so much for the comment!💚
I noticed that you don’t eat yogurt. We’re told that yogurt is good for our gut health. What is your opinion of yogurt?
The reason I don’t eat yogurt often is mainly personal preference. With that being said I think that it can be part of a healthy diet (if it is high quality dairy with no additives or sugars). In terms of the probiotic content, properly fermented yogurt can have some, although if you are eating it for that reason I would say that kifir would be a better option! Hope that helps! Do you have an opinion on the ketogenic diet? Are any of your patients on a keto diet? Thanks for the great video and congrats on the bloodwork!
So the ketogenic was developed specifically for epilepsy. I don’t really use it in my practice, as I find women (who I mainly see) at least need some carbohydrates. With that being said I have had some patients have really good results on a lower carbohydrate diet (providing that it is still high fibre with LOTS of veggies). Hope that helps 💚
I don't think my dr did enough blood work. He says i only need a multi vitamin over 50. Hmmm i dont agree.
Possibly! I always say it’s great to work with a functional/ integrative practitioner that can really explain your blood work to you!

It really depends on what is contributing to the weight loss/ weight gain resistance! It may be helpful to work 1:1 with a practitioner to rule out causes of weight loss and come up with a target plan to support a healthy weight! Hope this helps! 💚

Hey! I just say make sure that it is really well pre heated before you use it! I like to do the water test and make sure it moves around. I use a good amount of oil and once you put meat down do not try to flip it too early! I always boil water in it after I'm done to make clean up easy! Hope that helps 💚

Love your videos. But I'm histamine intolerant so no eggs, sauerkraut, avocado, salmon, vinegar, muchrooms etc... Sometimes I have the feeling that my body can only handle sweetpotatoes 😂 Sorry my english is not perfect, I'm watching all your videos from Belgium ( not easy to find on a map 😂) Maybe one day you could make a video for people like me who are histamine intolerant with new recipes. I really look forward to your videos. I have become a lot more mindful of what I eat and especially making an effort to get more fibre and protein into my meals. I would love to see a video of the hygiene products that you use (shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, etc). I’d like to switch over to healthier products in that regard.
