Glad you’re enjoying it, Alexa. Admittedly I’m biased as this was the Robin I grew up with but it really spoiled all other versions for me. The dreamlike atmosphere, the haunting soundtrack, the focus on magic, myth and folklore…it’s just so darn wonderful, there’s nothing else like it. Judi’s Marion is the GOAT, hands down, Nasir a brilliant addition, and the Sheriff/Gisborne pairing delightfully hateful. My only complaint is that, like many UK series, there aren’t that many episodes alas. But better to leave ‘em wanting more I guess.

Have you ever seen the tv mini series "The 10th Kingdom"? I think you would enjoy it a lot.

Didnt watch capt scarlet but saw you have put comments on pause. People may disagree with you but should not make hurtful comments .I do sometimes disagree with your views but i think you are too nice a person to be treated badly. Just a personal opinion.

This is an odd episode. We have a credible switch between Foster and Straker, with Straker showing humanity and Foster being the hard man for once. It also raises the possibility the Aliens are not working together. They obviously have the same ships and equipment, but "superbomb left untriggered for ten years" is only credible if we assume the guys planting the superbomb are not working with the guys who land in England every week. Maybe the guys with the superbomb were also the ones who tried to release that nerve gas.

I remember reading an interview with Richard Carpenter - at least 30 years ago - when he was talking about being at a RoS cast party and how there were only two blonds in the room which gave him the idea of making them half-brothers. I liked your observations about the humidity realism etc but with this one I always thought the obvious suntans on Much and Scarlett (contrasting with their white bums) and Gisburn's black undies were somewhat anachronistic lol. Hmm sounds like I spent too much time looking at butts in this episode. Not intentional, these things were hard to miss.

I heard that lepers being contagious is a myth. Paul Newman obviously knew this in Papillion. I love the last minute decision to make this Robin & Sir Guy brothers. That lovely leper lady being their mother. I still haven't commented on last weeks episode with my conspiracy theories about Eric Von Daniken & Merlin. Sorry, but that preacher gives me the creeps, "hallowed are the Ori" & all that.👽

Yeah, this episode felt like a set up for future misunderstandings based on lack of information sharing. Guy's Mum was fantastic, as was the whole "Travelling Lepers" mummery. It WAS nice to see someone other than Marion get captured and Will gives good comedy (even if I am always expecting him to yell "You slag!")

Dorothy Tutin added value to everything she appeared in, although I'm not really sure if I like the plot twist here. We'll see how it plays out. Nothing prepared me for my encounters with leprosy when I was travelling in Asia. Even now the memories are visceral and very uncomfortable.

"Look how dirty his arm is." Apparently, the actors would actually go into the woods and roll around in the dirt , just to get that "living in the forest" look. I think that Kip Carpenter was very even-handed in presenting the good and the bad in the church, and in pagan characters like Herne and Gulnar. I think recognize some of the locations in this episode from others earlier in the series, like the waterfall and the river. The locations both natural and castles etc are beautiful. I recall this episode being later in the series, but it given the stage of Marion and Robert's relationship (or lack thereof), it makes more sense earlier. I like your thought that women could disguise themselves as lepers to travel safely. I imagine women would have disguised themselves in some way for just such reasons.

Look how dirty his arm is."_ I spent a lot of 2023 working as an extra on a forthcoming Disney series called _A Thousand Blows_ - a drama about illegal underground boxing in Victorian London starring Stephen Graham (a really nice guy). I play a dock worker mulling around the background in various scenes and every morning consisted of turning up on set for breakfast followed by being dirtied down for the days filming. At the end of a really long day I'd sometimes forget to properly clean myself and would get strange looks on my way home on the London underground from commuters who probably thought I was a homeless guy.

In H.G. Wells The Time Machine the lead character is never named BUT the 2002 film named the time traveller Alexander Hartdegen. So Catriona Hartdegen could be a time traveller. Sadly we will never know. But that would expain her clothes and hair. She is out of place.

The popular SF novel Stand On Zanzibar came out five years before Soylent Green. It was obviously a huge influence. Crapsack dystopias were huge in the 70's but the oddly specific detail that's in both Stand On Zanzibar and Soylent Green is the proliferation of women who trade casual sex for food and a place to stay, not as a profession or a lifestyle choice but as part of an organized subculture. Re: Space 1999, there were several episodes in the first season that were based on movies that had been popular just a year or two before. There was also an episode that was more or less Zardoz, of all things. I think Alexa may be the only person who has ever seen this movie without the ending being spoiled. When it was initially released, the studio same as spoiled the ending in the *trailer*. When I was growing up it was such a staple of TV "movie of the week" and pop culture jokes that I can't remember ever *not* knowing what SG was made of. So far as whether the decision they made was right, I should point out unless they were getting at least *some* extra calories from somewhere, this was only an extremely temporary solution. You can't loop a food chain with no external inputs. The Earth only works because plants eat the sun. (There are some tiny biomes that are driven by geothermal heat and chemosynthesis instead, and if a passing star ever throws Earth out of the solar system entirely, the creatures that live in them will survive every other organism by millions of years).

I am filled with joy, I had the same reaction when Dr's first creature appeared. I am almost crying lmao, I just got hit by the same joy I had with the show. Its my favorite show to this day.

"Second officer takes command and everything goes to hell" is another story Anderson used before, in Thunderbirds. Pretty cool, I think! Life support failure leading to a disabled crew is absolutely possible. The crew of Soyuz 11 was killed in such an accident, but anoxia has never happened AFAIK. Supposedly Ed White was having so much fun on the first US spacewalk they were worried it was happening. If you listen to the tapes it does seem to me mission control got a little anxious as they ordered White back inside. In real life, most spacecraft have an emergency repressurization system. If a breach happens, air is released from tanks to keep the air pressure breathable for a few minutes while they put spacesuits on. Still, you're right, it's better to be wearing the suit when things start to go wrong, and you'd generally expect the crew to be in suits if they were in a situation where Moonbase might lose atmosphere. Actually, you'd expect most of Moonbase to be underground both for protection and radiation. If the Russian moonbase is 20 miles to the East, they're below the lunar horizon, but they would absolutely detect Interceptors if they are launched in a direction where they'd climb above the horizon. If they launch to the West, they'd remain undetected. That said, I'd guess the Russians get a message stating that Moonbase is launching a "replacement communication satellite" or something if it's overflying their base.

Cornelius Ryan based his book on hundreds of intervirews with the paticipants on both sides. His other books based on the same method oncluded The Longest Day about D Day, which also made into movie. Another by different authors but same method are Is Paris Burning, about the liberation of Paris, and O Jerusalem , about the first Arab Israeli War.

Pure, amazing acting. No blood, no special effects. Yet one of the most terrifying movies you’ll ever see. It seems Hollywood has forgotten the recipe for truly great filmmaking and storytelling.

Another reaction video you might consider doing is the Gerry Anderson movie 'Journey to the Far Side of the Sun'. Several of the actors and special effects appeared in UFO which was aired about a year after 'Journey to the Far Side of the Sun' was shown in theaters.
