Lantern, the wonderful thing about this it's also a test a sapphire and steel relationship as Steel knows the danger he's put sapphire into even talking to the projection, he says he loves her. And for someone as cold as him to admit something like that the very big step

Lantern. Tully must be one of the most well-fleshed out characters on television, compassionate, empathic and very, very human - when confronted with something way beyond his experience and expectations (the Darkness rather than the ghosts of soldiers) he reacts in an all too relateable way - but he shows real courage in fighting his own fear. In an alternate universe, I would have loved to have seen Tully have his own TV show - ghost hunting across the UK with his understated, warm demeanour, where nothing much would happen but he would have rather one-sided chats with various phantoms while he ate sandwiches and drank soup. It would be the cosy companion to Sapphire and Steel's rather more uncosy atmosphere...

I would have loved a spinoff show of cozy ghost hunting with him!

Lantern. As I've said, ad nauseam, this is my favourite Assignment in this great series, it keeps you on the edge of your seat, is unnerving and unpredictable, I'm so glad that you're enjoying it, Alexa.

    Loved this episode.
Also your Casper insert of Ray Stantz made me chuckle. :)

Lantern. It's often been said that the length of some Doctor Who serials often suffered from the problem of some episodes just being used for padding, but Sappire and Steel seems to have avoided that particular problem. Every episode, certainly in this story, managed to keep up a steady pace, cranking up the tension and drip-feeding us information.
I like Tully, and I don't hold his momentary cowardice against him. I honestly don't know how I'd hold up in a situation like that, I don't think anyone does until they experience it for themselves. Like being in a war, you can't know in advance who's going to crack and who's going to make it through.
Talking of war, if I remember right all the war dead in this story are British. I don't know if that's significant. Maybe Germans all go to Valhalla when they die, and the British afterlife is waiting at a train station. I don't know what the American afterlife would be - eternity in a McDonalds or stuck in a line at Disneyland?

Sapphire and Steel we must remember are very alien in many ways and actions they take to prevent time breaking through on universe level makes them stop at nothing.

Lantern. "Ghosts of the Living" has me in deep contemplation 🤔😟.

After many repeat viewings, I am not closer to fully understanding what goes on in this episode, but given that the show as a whole runs on a vibe of "ignorance is terror" that seems eminently fair...

As you're liking this you might like "The Omega Factor" too. Please put it on your "Should I watch list" along with "The Changes" and "Children of the Stones".

Lantern. Saphire & Steel is so eerie isn’t it? Who do you think is the most powerful? I think Saphire is.

So far - you have not seen them on public UA-cam yet. It is a future character.

Lantern. This episode had me utterly depressed when I first watched it because it seemed like there was nothing that could happen to solve the situation. Not to mention Sapphire being not Sapphire. On tenterhooks for the next episode

Have you seen Thames Television "Wind in the Willows"? Currently Skype watching with me kids.

I don't think Steel's Lantern will be much help against The Darkness.
