Not bad for a 60 year old tv series. Way ahead of its time thanks Gerry Anderson another classic. Glad you like the show Alexa.☺

I'm so glad that you liked it, Alexa. All of the marionettes were based on real actors at the time, Troy Tempest was James Garner, Atlanta was Lois Maxwell (best known for playing Miss Moneypenny in the original 'Bond' films) she also voiced the character, Marina was Brigitte Bardot, and so on.

I've thought for years that Tempest reminded me of Jim Rockford. Now I know why!

@@greedycapitalist8590 Yes, Gerry Anderson was asked by the modeller what sort of look he wanted for Troy Tempest, Gerry said something similar to James Garner as he'd seen him in the TV series 'Maverick' and thought that a look like his might work well, the modeller copied his face exactly. 😄

It is crazy how much emotion the characters can convey even though half the time their normal smiley faces are used for scenes when they're angry/scared/concerned. The voice acting plays a big role, but then Marina is all puppet-work! Super ambitious for them to go that route - but it works!
Really looking forward to future reactions. There's so much in these shows I take for granted, so it's nice to have all the great model-work/effects/plot-points/costumes/characters/set-design praised by fresh eyes.

Ahhh, that's my Sunday matinee TV viewing as a kid, right there! Dad and I would go over to his parents and help out, before frantically driving back across town, in time to watch Stingray/Thunderbirds/Captain Scarlet. Dad would insist that it was for my benefit, but he would watch any Gerry Anderson show just as avidly as me..... 😂😂

Atlanta is played by lois maxwell who played the original miss moneypenny in the 1st 16 james bond films. Also the puppets sculpt is based on her face. Troy was based on rockford files james garner.

All of the Anderson Studio productions had great model work which progressively got better from show to show as time went on. Have fun with Stingray and maybe someday you might reconsider doing Thunderbirds.

Marina sits at the back because Stingray is unlikely to reverse into any sea mines or monsters. Also, that's where the fridge is that's stocked with fish fingers and calamari.

It was made in the early 60s, so of course shes at the back , being a mere women. I'm sure she'd have been screaming a lot too like all women did in scifi horror fillms etc too back then, if she'd had a voice lol

    Hi Alexa,
I know you tried the original marionette version of "Thunderbirds" and found the extended run lengths to be a bit of a drag; but you still might like to give the more recent (2016 - 2020) "Thunderbirds Are Go" version a try, when you're in the market for a new Anderson-based series. The episodes are shorter at 22 minutes, and it uses an interesting hybrid production technique of CGI characters and vehicles with (as far as possible) practical miniature sets.
It was all made as something of a childhood dream by Richard Taylor, the founder of Weta Workshop (the lead prop/ special effects house in New Zealand for "The Lord of the Rings"), who was a lifelong "Thunderbirds" fan. For my money, like the "New Captain Scarlet", they're simultaneously faithful to the spirit of the original while acknowledging the ways the world has changed in the meantime.
