I see you're having problems with the mandrel / blank staying in the chuck .. I put a heavy duty rubber band on the jaws and I don't have any problems anymore .. keeps that pressure on the blank / mandrel ... just an idea. The jaws still will open when you twist 'em, and close again. The rubber band simply helps it stay closed.
What sort of saw are you using ? I didn't quite get it ? A WIRE SAW ??? AHHHH .. I found it .. german style jewelers saw .. ordered! You do A GREAT JOB of separating money from people hahahahahha
I noticed you are building on MHX now and not NFC is there a reason?😬
I'm just trying new stuff. I was shopping for colored blanks for a charity saltwater build, and I saw this MH EF and wanted to try it.
Thanks for the in-depth information you show and give! The other people I watch don’t do that at all!
Thanks for watching James!
just got mine last week waiting on a blank to show up
Good luck with the build.
Just finished a build for my Dad about 2 weeks ago with one. Easy to build on, kind of weird that the middle of the grip was almost skinnier than the blank. Added the aluminum winding check. Feels good, not my particular style, but Dad loves it. Great video - I'm sure this is goin to get lots of hits for folks wanting install instructions, thanks!
Thanks for watching Scot!
Recently everwhere was out of the quick bond. I picked up the new g4 15 minute. They mean 15 minute. It is very firm (and hot) in 15 minutes and rock solid in 20
I'll have to try it.
I lile the looks of carbon handle kits, but they make them too long. Wish they were around 8 inches.
Thanks.
Have two in my cart right now!
Good luck with your builds!
Where is the spine in correlation to the the end of the rod I guess what I'm trying to ask is do you use the spine like regular casting or do you do it like a spinning rod use the spline on the inside at the end of the pole or do you use the spine on the outside and at the end of the pole?
ua-cam.com/video/3Zz5icbCYVk/v-deo.html This might help. I put the natural bend of the rod on the down side as you fish it.
Ok I have a question. You’re talking about different densities in the cork. I recently picked up a bunch of acrylic blanks I’m sure you’re familiar with. How am I going to sand these if I want alternating cork and acrylic rings?. I’m waiting on my lathe so have time to figure it out before hand. Should I sand the acrylic rings down first to the correct diameter then build the grip because the cork sands much easier?
That's the way I would do it. Even if you use a flat back plat for sand paper, you could still have small dips on the cork areas.
Do you ever have issues with order multiples of the same exact blank and tip-top size being different? Just experienced this for the first time. Wondering how prevalent this is. Had another blank where I even ordered half a size larger than specs listed for blank and it still didn't fit.
It happens a bit. That's why I keep an inventory of tip tops. When I was only building a few I would get the blank in hand before I ordered components for that reason.
@@fdxcustomrods Thanks!
I agree 200% i rather have way too much then not enough.
Thanks Harry.
I really enjoy watching your videos. You provide a lot of information and I’m just an old guy. Try to learn how to do this. I’ve done three rods now and you’ve been very helpful.
Thank you, David. I make them to help guys like you. I'm glad you found us!
Any specific reason you balance it before you put the guides on? On my 3rd build and want to balance it per your instructions as I think it’ll make for a better rod.
No. I do it both ways. It depends on when I finish the epoxy work in the grip section. The guides don't add enough weight to the rod to matter.
@@fdxcustomrods Thanks! I was curious. I plan on adding this to my custom builds now, as I was out trying to get the reel seat in a place that balanced it, but this is much easier.
Great video! Thanks for the information! Can this be done with a 18RPM dryer?
Yes. You will just have to play with consistency of the epoxy for different speed dryers.
I was taught to use wax on the threads. I think I'll try the Teflon tape, though
I've never tried wax, but Teflon tape is easy to do.
Good stuff man ty for sharing
Thanks for watching!
It's like you were talking directly to me I just ordered my stuff to make grips.
Doing my part to separate you from your money...😂😂
@@fdxcustomrods 😆 I have no problem separating my money from my wallet. My problem is having enough disposable money for what I want to do. 😆 lol
Never thought of the Teflon tape that’s why I watch you. One can always learn something.😅
Thanks Stephen
Hello, I can’t for the life of me find the video where you talk about the foot pedal upgrade. What model did you buy please?
YC-50N
This is all very nice, but if there was a video, it would be even better!😉
The last two videos with one more coming is about these rods...
Thank you that will be great!
Hello ! What is the name of the technology used to make the sticker? What process is used to make such a thin sticker?
amzn.to/3IHXEC4
Where can I find that style of hook keeper. Great looking rod!!!
customflygrips.com/en/ This link is in the description of every video.
Thanks for the great video Lee, I have a question regarding running guides and the tip top, I have found that with the heavier rods it is difficult to find a 4 or 5 ring tip top to fit the bigger blanks. Does it make a big difference if you use say no4 running guides and a 5 ring tip top or no 5 running guides and a 6 tip top?
It doesn't. But mudhole has LZR 4 and 5 ring tips with pretty large tube sizes.
Look great. They are going to be pumped for these. Have enjoyed watching this build.
Thanks 👍 Brian
What exactly is the purpose of these ramps?
It eliminates the need for winding checks where the grips and reel seat meet the blank. Plus, they can be a nice accent.
I would like to buy a custom rod
Send me an email to fdxcustomrods@gmail.com, and we can get started on the process of designing and building a rod for you.
Stay out of Louisiana 😂
No problem..😂😂
Amazing!!!!😮😮😮
Thank you sit!
To be optimal, and increase line efficiency, you need 1 more transition guide.
I've tested a lot of rods, and on some of the larger diameter rods, it takes 2 transition guides. But on most small diameter blanks, only 1 guide is necessary.
Can u use a mica powder to color epoxy?
You should be fine with mica, but I would do a test batch and make sure it hardens correctly.
I check it out
What brand is the expoxy paste you are using?
U 40 10minute Quick Bond. I get it from voodoorods.com
pro kote
I’ve learned so much from watching every single one of your videos. Thank you very much please keep up the great work
Thank you , Jimmy. I appreciate your interest.
A good set of calipers would be easier to get the parts reamed out.
I have a good set, but for me, trial fitting always works out better.
You taught them to do the right thing by loading the rod, stringing it and moving to guides to their final position based on the actual spacing to achieve ample stress distribution along the parabolic curve of the rod. At this stage, measure.ents don't matter as all blanks will be a bit different and this is the correct way to space and layout guides. You and I have the same problem with use of our hands as we want. Mine is from an accident. It gets quite frustrating but nothing with a few swear words now and then, keeps you honest.
It makes me appreciate when they are working well. Sorry to hear about your accident.
Could you tell me which video had the foot pedal upgrade information you mentioned. Thank you
ua-cam.com/video/C4d5ETPlk-w/v-deo.html
@@fdxcustomrods thank you
Always like a good marbling Ep Lee. ? With your marbling under the seat, do you make it a snug fit to the internal diameter. Thanks Stevo
Thank you Stevos
I understand, thank you very much!
👍
It takes a lot of time to do this. Thank you.
It's not for everyone.
Congratulations sir! I really like how you do marbling, I took your example and did it also on my second rod that I built! I have a question: how many layers do you apply when marbling? Thanks, looking forward to the sequel!
It depends on how many colors you are going to use. I like to get at least 1 coat of clear on after I'm done with color.
Is there a reason not to store the syringes in the bottle inserts? I have been doing that so I don't mix them up.
I tend to drop and knock stuff over, so I like the caps on the bottles. I just use a sharpie to color my black syringe .
This is where two epoxy mixer would be handy.
That would be handy.
Black cap should be the hardener
It is.
You have inspired me to build more rods. Q: Does the Fuji VSS reel seat work both directions. I see fore grips and rear grips that have the cut outs.
Yes it does it’s one of my go to spinning seats with a variety of different configurations
Almost any spinning seat can be used in either direction.
Great video! Looking forward to your zoom!
Sorry sir misunderstanding I was just wondering if he was going to do videos from his Ride Shop that's all
No misunderstanding Harry, you presented me with the opportunity to explain what is going on in the shop.

Noted. Thanks for watching.
I just stumbled onto your channel and love your content. Question: I’m a newbie and was wondering how do you know which blank to buy? I see popping blanks and crappie blanks but don’t see any spinning blanks. Can any blank be used for spinning reels or is it dependent on the particular blank?
Glad you found us. Yes, any blank can be used as a spinning rod. This may help. ua-cam.com/video/UbZ79fS_4_E/v-deo.html
