Restoration/repair work and by no means am I a professional or anything close to one. Some of the basics of working on cars and trucks I learned as a teenager. Everything on these trucks I'm learning along the way by research and hands on experience.
Started the channel with the intention of repair work on my 1970 F250 camper special. Now that truck is getting a frame off(driver) restoration, follow along as I'm going to be doing all the work myself. Also working on my 1974 F350 this truck is going to be a tow rig for finding other projects we can bring home and get running. Id eventually like to put a diesel in the truck!
My goal when I started the channel was to help anyone looking to do basic repairs on these old Ford trucks to get them/keep them on the road! If there's anything I haven't covered or you'd like to see in a video please let me know.
Thank you for your interest in the channel!

So ever since I discovered the damage to the cab of the dually, I had the idea to fix it. I even drove a few hours away to pick up a cab that someone was giving away for free! but....I'm not going that route anymore. I want to get the truck on the road and drive it and its just going to be way easier to replace the cab!
Since the cab is coming off I decided to replace the slightly worn cab bushings for some new Polyurethane from Energy Suspension! It can be a little difficult removing the olds ones as the top and bottom sleeve rust themselves together sometimes. I go over and easy way to remove all four.
Energy Suspension Polyurethane bushings
Part number-ENS-4-4104G
Kit was four cab bushings and core support
Not exactly a how to do it but going over the steps and would something that can be done in a weekend or full day if you have the time.

Mine is automatic does it matter?
Yes the automatic column is different.
You just gave me another speaker box idea😂
I’ve been wanting to do something along those lines as well! Just haven’t started. Thank you for watching!
Ultrasonic parts washer is vital in cleaning carbs I have found
Yeah I’d love to have one just wouldn’t get much use. I’m also a bit limited on space, a parts cleaner I think is first on my list.
Yeah but how does one lift the tire up into position. I am old and out of shape!!
With this only way is just manually. This spare I had was a bit heavy also if you could get something in a smaller size would probably be easier.
Nice bro
Thank you for watching!
Are you at turners in Fresno I have been going to that yard my whole life I'm in bay area
Yes! It’s an awesome yard. Been wanting to make another trip soon it’s been a while.
what does it mean if you put the wires on and it automatically pegs to the high side ?
My first guess could be one some of the connections are swapped. Double check all wiring and ensure the ground wire is good, maybe sand down to bare metal then reconnect.
love all 1970 f250 videos my dad past down his AND im restoring it. It has ran for nearly 20 years but when he handed me the keys it started up but it needs a lot of TLC. Its funny this the first ever vehicle i worked on in any capacity and your videos videos on the subject are really helpful such as a the auxiliary fuel from LMC. i would love see to more of videos of what you done with yours. im thinking of removing the bench and having bucket seats that lmc sell i also removed the main tank from the inside so i would only have the auxiliary tank but i might add the square tank lmc has that goes where the spare is at so i could still have two tanks. apart from that i swapped the the manual carburetor to an electric one with vacuum secondaries. the next thing is lights, suspensions, windows, i might even put in power window regulators.
Thank you for watching! I’m glad they have helped, that was my goal when I started the channel. Creating simple videos that can help anyone wanting to work on their truck. Bucket seats would be really cool! If I’m able to get another truck I’d want bucket seats too. I’ve got a few more videos for the 1970 coming up just trying to finish the 74 right now.
What's the size for the fuel inlet? My Holley 2300 Carb did not come with one.
Honestly I can’t remember, I don’t believe mine came with one either. I had to buy a few and see what fit. The fuel line should be 3/8 so you could search for a 3/8 barb fitting.
@@AJsGarage I figured that's what it was! Thanks, I'll check it out.
Used painters tape to hold ball joint press parts together. Thanks good video
I didn’t think about that but easy way to keep them together. Thank you for watching!
How do you like this carburetor I am in the middle of building a 390 fe for my f250 highboy and I was thinking of getting one of these for it
Honestly I haven’t driven the truck much with the Holley. I had an issue with the C6 and decided to swap everything over to a 4 speed. I’m just about done then I plan on driving it daily. Truck was more responsive from what I remember the few times I drove it.
Dude, you right there on a rebuild and you missing putting in parts that are easy to just swap in fresh! Otherwise, ok video…
There is an easy way to keep from making a mess by using a cheap manual transfer pump. They come with long hoses that will fit in the fill tube. Shove it to the bottom and stick the other end in a jug and start pumping. there will still be some fluid left in the pan but if you're careful, no mess.
I never thought of that, it’s a good way to get most of the fluid out. The drain plug makes it a lot easier now. Thank you for watching!
Great video, I am super confused how you get the wheel assembly to move so freely when pulling the radius arm out and putting back in. It is super loose and moves freeley in your video, you even lift it and move it with one hand ( minute mark 7:50 ) . Im in the middle of this project right now and I have removed spring and shock and the radius arm will not budge one inch so I am very confused !
Had to go back and watch but mine was a bit difficult to get out as you saw with the bushing intact. With the spring and shock removed I can’t think of what else could be preventing it from coming out. I-beam bolt is out and beam dropped?
ahhh. I did not realize you had taken the ibeam bolt out and dropped it prior. Its the opposite side bolt, correct ? @@AJsGarage
@@PR-gn2vd Yes it’s the opposite side bolt for the side your removing the radius arm. It should go a lot smoother now, thank you for watching!
@@AJsGarage I got everything put together, but I cannot slide the I-beam with the new bushing back into place. It is a little too wide. It’s almost like I need to spread the bracket where it goes a tiny tiny amount. Any ideas?
@@PR-gn2vd I had the same problem with one side. Applied some grease and used a pry bar to get it started. I can’t remember exactly, took me a bit to get it back in the right spot.
Dangerous not to have another jack in the front, especially kicking a wheel assembly and also wrenching near that jack that's saving your life....And that jack is not bullet proof--can slip out of the teeth--known to happen. A jack on a board like that---dabAlso--replace those springs and shocks while you're at it. Everything is related....
I agree it’s just what I had at the time. I do have more now, shocks were replaced but haven’t got to the springs. Thank you for watching.
Put a Put a diesel in it put a diesel i
That’s the plan eventually! But for now it needs to get on the road and find a flatbed for it
Put the Hill Canadian air for the hell of a cat in there. You frame eight paint everything
Are you selling the mirrors? original Ford Junior West Coast stainless steel mirrors
No I’m not selling this set but I have another set. There’s a contact email if you want to reach out.
the two wheel drive frame was different.....narrower. 4x4 frame is wider in the front.
I’m not super familiar with the highboy frames but I believe they stayed the same from the 60’s-late 70’s I thought. 34 inches wide but the front design was slightly different. Same the the cab and chassis trucks, I completely forgot when I was recording that cab and chassis trucks were different then the regular 73-79 trucks. Thank you for watching!
There was a change in the frames, when Ford switched over two the Twin I-beam suspension, then another wider frame introduced around 1968. But for the most part there was no changes to the frame, as cab corner placement always depended on the trucks transmission setup and if it could support a PTO or transfer case for 4X4. Which was to make room for a PTO, or transfer case and applied to both automatic and manual transmissions.
Yes your right, there wasn’t much of a change to the frame from 68 forward. Highboy and cab & chassis trucks stayed 34 inches between frame rails front to back till around 79 I believe but regular 73-79 trucks the back half of the frame did widen out to 36.5 I believe. I had completely forgot about that when I was doing this but didn’t realize highboy frames and F350 frames were the same
Nice job man! FYI the rear cab mounts not lining up is not a year issue , the F350s and the 4X4s have the mounts outside the frame versus inboard. The core supports are also the same from a 4X4 and an F350....or on other models with gears lower than 4.10s for heavy duty cooling systems. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! I didn’t know that, I’m not very familiar with highboys. I assumed it was based on the year but cab and chassis trucks frame rails stayed 34 inches all the way back. I appreciate the information as always! Thank you for watching.
I have been looking for pedal bushings or a replacement for so long. From what I can see, no one makes those big outer bushings anymore. I am so doing this!
Do it! Haven’t got them in the truck yet but the pedal moves really well. Plus don’t have to worry about them wearing out. Thank you for watching!
How did you do the inline fuel setup
The inline set up? I believe I just ordered a barbed fitting for a 3/8 fuel like and used the existing steel line from the pump. Might have bent it a little for it not to a had angle and cause the fuel line to kink.
💪
Thank you for watching!
@ajsgarage - thank you for these videos! I just got a '68 Ford F-100 last summer and it's got a stroker 427 FE with a C6 three speed auto. Lots of good stuff here already, but one thing I can't find anywhere are vids showing how to work on the insides of the doors. The latches are not something I'm familiar with and I need to fix my passenger side and adjust the driver's side latches... I'm having a ton of fun with this truck, and thank goodness for guys like you sharing! If you ever get into the doors, I'm ready to watch! Mine didn't have these cab light switches, so I now have another project! Thank you. Scott
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching! I’m glad the videos help. Sounds like an awesome truck! What color? I haven’t had any issues with the latches on either truck so I haven’t needed to make a video on it. What’s the issue your having with the latch?
Truck is Rangoon Red, redone in 2011 with Imron single stage aircraft paint. Showing a little age, but still looks nice. The door latch on the passenger side is completely bonkers. I'll have to take the panel off to see what I can see, but I'll likely have to have my son help as his eyes are better and he's done some like it before. He's got a '66 F-100 he's restoring now. Someone had put in a 428 at some point, so it will be fun once that is rebuilt...@@AJsGarage
I run a 350 cfm on my Chevy 350 engine and I get great gas it runs perfect
Good video ! The little piece of plastic that broke off of the float needle seat splash shield was probably causing the float to stick open causing a flooding condition. While the carb was off you should have set the idle mixture screws to 1 1/2 turns from seated.
Thank you for watching! Yeah I definitely think that was causing a small issue. I’ll have to go back and do that, haven’t messed with it much since then.
Really helpful video, do you do any service work. Im in LA
Thank you for watching! Glad it helped, I’ve helped a few people local to me but nothing besides that.
Hey aj, i recently watched your video on your 74 f350 where you put in a delete panel for your fan box, I’ve been reading forms on how to do it. So my question is where do your run your hose instead of to the fan box? Thanks aj
Thank you for watching! I’m sure you could loop it and have them connect to each other, I put caps on mine just for now.
Nice video. Where did you end up getting the bushing for the pivot axle? I have a 73 1 ton and can't find them anywhere...all not available. You are correct they are slightly larger than the 3/4 ton
Thank you for watching! I got mine from O’reilly’s, I just checked the part number and they are not available. Use this part number K8179 and try calling Moog maybe they can reference a different part that will fit. I remember I had called them and it got me pointed in the right direction.
Did you know on Amazon they are using your picture of the two trucks with the hood up as advertising for a carburetor.
I had no idea, thank you for letting me know. What’s the link? Or product.
Nice old truck man, hope it's still rolling and keep it in that rust-reducing garage!
Thank you! Out in the driveway right now, have another truck in the garage I’m working on but hopefully back in her home soon.
Nice. My 1984 F-150 351W needs some TLC (and quality fuel if we can find it in Maryland...). A toast to the nice old Fords.
Great job man! Huge improvement! I would recommend assembling all those bolts with anti-seize. Stainless likes to weld itself together , and being out in the weather doesn't help. I'm about to do a couple sets for my trucks.
I appreciate the tip! I’m going to go back and do that hopefully this coming week. Good luck with doing yours, thank you for watching!
Thanks for the video I ran both the 7448/2300 old style with the overkill 50cc accelerator pump 8 mpg . I like the refresh of this S/A500 it's actually the front of a classic 750 CFM carburetor I switched to a 4 bbl and listened to the net racers on jegs / summit sites and bought the Edelbrock RPM intake overkill for a 360-390 it does not make enough compression to use 1/2 of that intake go with the regular performer a 390 will never spin over 5,000 RPM without a different crank shaft I'm at 4,800 rpm with the RPM intake and 600 Holly . If I had to do it all over the gear vendors overdrive and this carb is all you need .
Thank you for watching! Also the information, been going back and forth on staying two barrel or going four barrel but I think for what I want to do with the truck this was the right choice. I’m trying to get as close to 15mpg.
@@AJsGarage Yeah 👍 been there the biggest bang for the buck though was the overdrive transmission. I realized that I wouldn't have needed a 4 barrel after I installed it the biggest wow factor was with a overdrive or 4-speed automatic transmission you get the passing gear at high speeds in between 55/70 so you could be cruising at 65 and put the pedal all the way to the floor and it'll kick down into third and you get that seat of the pants take off power wow factor 😉. Anyway I just bought the summit 600 I'm a lot happier with that as far as tunability compared to a four-barrel Holley with the Dual float bowls and gaskets all over and this and that the top comes off like an autolite it's really easy for jet changes and you can leave the Dual feed fuel rail on it when you take the top off pretty simple.
@TheThirdWheel618 Which automatic did you go with? In my 70 I eventually want to put in a 460/C6 but I know a later E4OD is an upgrade. That would make it a much nicer truck to drive
@@AJsGarage I had my 390 rebuilt pretty fresh so i went with a gear vendors there pretty pricey I weighed all the options adapters , 5 speed swap , another transmission but I also just had my C6 rebuilt at the same time so to just add something onto it was the easiest for me . I Have a 250 with 3:73 gears I tried really big tires the rear first a lot of people comment on that and say they wouldn't spend that much money on a gear vendor they would just put big tires on it . With the 373 gear ratio they only drop me 200 RPM so instead of 3000 RPM at 60 I dropped down to 2,800 and still got 8 mi per gallon on the freeway. There's a lot of options out there but with the 390 I was limited the only logical thing to do other than the gear vendor what's to change the rear axle the Dana 60 only goes as high as 3:55 I tried to find those vintage 323s out there that people talk about but I've never found them.
And I wanted to keep the truck all original I didn't want to hack it up and have a Dana 44 on an f250 with a 5 lug in the rear and have all kinds of mixed pieces and parts and then nobody wanted to buy it because I did it my way lol.
I realize this is an old vid, but I was Curious if you know how wide the truck is mirror to mirror with west coast jrs?
No worries, I actually have a set of JR’s so I can get you a number tomorrow. I’m working on a video right now refurbishing the mirrors
@@AJsGarage Thank you!!
Great content, sir. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
Thanks for posting AJ, I look forward to seeing your videos!
I’m glad you like them! Thank you for watching I appreciate it. Hoping to get back to a more consistent schedule posting.
AJ, love your videos. It inspires a novice with an old truck to DIY some projects. I have this same model truck, but my bench seat back doesn’t pull forward giving me access to the area of the in-can gas tank. Any ideas as to what could prevent it from pulling forward?
I appreciate you watching! Thank you for commenting and hope my videos help with those projects. Hmm I’ve never really taken a look at the seat but maybe the pivot is rusty or something is holding it up? It shouldn’t be a later model seat with the locking tab. I’d losen the bolt holding the top half and try removing it.
Where did you buy your gauge? I bought one that looks the same but the fittings don’t seems to work with the 360 in my 75 :/ Can you put a link to where you got yours?
I’ll look for a link and update the description. I ordered the gauge from Amazon. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for this! It was nice to watch this before I do my own so I could see what everything looks like. Nice work.
Glad it could help! Thank you for watching!
I have the same carburetor as you but I can't identify what it is could you please help
@@AJsGaragedo you know what list number you're holley has?
@@patricksullivan9787The list number should be up at the top somewhere maybe it’s worn down a lot? I believe in my Holley it was 7508-1
U set the float with carb on car.
Could u just fill the trans up the rest of the way while it's running?
I’m sure you could, It should be checked while the engine is up to temp for an accurate level. Thank you for watching!
I pulled my cluster to replace lens. When I reinstalled cluster my Speedo now bounces. What could that be?
I’m not sure, mine does that was well more noticeable at higher speeds vs slower. I’m wondering if then ends need to be greased a little before putting it back on.
When your accelerator valve is pressed do you get fuel into both sides of the carb or just the passenger side?
I haven’t checked it but it should be both sides at any point I believe. If it’s only spraying into one side you might have a clog or a crack in one of the Venturi tubes.
It should be both sides. Maybe one of the Venturi is clogged or a crack in the tube could cause it to not spray correctly. You are able to remove it without pulling the whole carb just be careful you don’t drop anything in the engine.
spray control is better then my shave cream,How does it smell?
Good! It actually has somewhat of a citrus smell
Great video! Do you have the model number of the upper bearing? And the runner seal.
Thank you for watching! I forgot to add them but they are now in the description, part number for the upper bearing and the rubber seal. I didn't change my upper bearing though.
0:54 WHERE do you get those color coded diagrams????? Thanks
I got it from Classiccarwiring.com they come in handy and two different sizes larger one is easier to see.
my '70 F250 has a steel cable you roll up and from behind the license plate. It is an early '70 so maybe they changed it.
That’s cool maybe they did, or could of been an upgraded option? All the trucks Ive come across never had seen that.
