Good video ! The little piece of plastic that broke off of the float needle seat splash shield was probably causing the float to stick open causing a flooding condition. While the carb was off you should have set the idle mixture screws to 1 1/2 turns from seated.

Thank you for watching! Yeah I definitely think that was causing a small issue. I’ll have to go back and do that, haven’t messed with it much since then.

When your accelerator valve is pressed do you get fuel into both sides of the carb or just the passenger side?

I haven’t checked it but it should be both sides at any point I believe. If it’s only spraying into one side you might have a clog or a crack in one of the Venturi tubes.

It should be both sides. Maybe one of the Venturi is clogged or a crack in the tube could cause it to not spray correctly. You are able to remove it without pulling the whole carb just be careful you don’t drop anything in the engine.

I have a 77 thunderbird, I soaked carb for a day, still boggles down and runs bad,,I’ve had timing checked, new plugs n wires,,never rebuilt a carb,,and not sure about the tune part,,I’m pretty mechanical but this will be a first,,,is there signs I need to look for once I get it broke down,,thx, great video and I subbed!

Thank you for watching and subscribing! I would just try to get it taken apart completely, that way if your dipping it in carb cleaning solution it soaks for a few days and gets really clean. Once it’s back together it should make a difference. Do you have any current vacuum leaks? Or fuel leaks from the carb down the intake?

@@AJsGarage my mechanic said I had a lot of leaks,,he plugged one, said they all useless emissions ones, and in Indiana, we don’t need them, I’m just unsure of which ones and which to plug,,I’m at the point of just buying a new carb lol,,thx so much for replying!!

@@illin1929 Nice lol! I just finally got a new carburetor also it’s a Holley 2300, should have a video out for it in a few days. I’m always trying to save a little by rebuilding stuff but finally gave in.

AJ, do you think it would be possible to do a video on how to do a fuel pressure check on a mechanical fuel pump? specifically showing how to hook it up for testing purposes? I rebuilt my 2100 carb and it runs really well but I'm noticing that the float bowel is not filling up(only a small amount of fuel in the bowel). The engine runs nicely after I prime it by dumping a small amount of fuel down the carb air intake. It idles nicely, sounds great when I push on the gas pedal, but then dies within a few minutes. I am questioning the fuel pump and want to test its pressure. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Probably a needle and seat issue I’d guess.

Honestly I’m not sure how I could test the pressure of the mechanical pump. I’d go with process of elimination, defiantly would check the needle and seat. Making sure it’s clean and moving free it should let more fuel in along with checking the float. If your still having the same issue just double check your lines are clear, then I would say it could be the mechanical fuel pump.
