Junk yard parts hunt 6, another trip to the junkyard! I had a lot of time to spare this day and had to be out of the house, so of course I came to turners. Theres so much here its so easy to lose track of time and next thing you know 3 hours have gone by!
I did make the trip today with a few things in mind that I need for a project I want to do coming up. Lets see what I can find!

Great stuff man! I would have a blast walking around that place all day. We are in search for a 71' f100, f250 or f350 hood. I can probably repair mine but, looking for a backup in case anything happens to ours. Great video man! Loved the tour👍

Thank you for watching! There’s so much stuff out there, I think the next video I’m going to leave a lot longer so everyone’s gets an idea of how much there really is. There’s plenty of great hoods out there only thing would be getting it to you.

Same! It’s an awesome truck I’m hoping I eventually can save everything. Just need to figure out what I would do with it.

That cream colored slick side Ford was a 65. A 66 has a different more complex looking grille. The 66 grille has smaller egg crate design on the bottom and a split upper grille.
If you want a step side box on the dually I would build one from scratch. Make it long enough to fit the frame and make it wider then then half ton box. You've got a dually, don't limit what you can haul in it by throwing a short box on it. I'm planning to do this with my 54 F100 project.
The 54 box is very similar to that dent side box. The main difference is the 54 box side are angled at the top instead of being flat like the dent side. And the 53-56 trucks use a one piece long running board. The dent side has the little shorty steps. The boxes are pretty simple. They are mostly flat panels.
Widening the fenders and getting them to look right is more difficult then building the box. The fenders have compound curves going in all directions. You can tackle that in a couple other ways too. Make the box wider, cut out the box side and make a simple inner wheel tub to cover the inner tire. And you can also buy a aftermarket 3" wider fender for 53-56 Ford trucks which will also work on the newer box.
When you get your Z-bar and pivot brackets I would grab them from a truck with the same type of engine. I'm not 100% positive but I believe the FE Z-bar parts are different from the 240/300, Windsor, 335 and 385 series engines.

Thank you for the information on the 65, I'm not very familiar with them.
I'm still honestly back and forth between the flatbed and step side bed. I agree with you in not limiting the dually to a narrow box like that, I think extending/widening the bed would be easiest for me. I also did have that same thought to making an inner wheel tub to take up the inner tire on each side, I'll have to ask how much they want for the box next time I'm there. There are plenty of fenders at the junkyard might not need to extended ones, just depends on the price when the time comes. I do want the truck to be different so I might end up doing it....
You are correct and they are different, it was very difficult to find an FE engine side pivot but I found one. Everything else is the same, except for maybe the Z-bar. LMC shows two different ones depending on the engine, I guess ill find out if mines right or wrong.
As always I appreciate the feedback.

@@AJsGarage I think a dually with a step side box would look cool. There will be a lot of work to widen and lengthen the box. That's why I decided to just build one. You've got both box sides, front panel, rear sill panel, tailgate, The wood floor and a whole lot of crossmembers that hold it all together. But either way I think it would be worth the effort. Flatbeds are great but I just prefer having an actual box on my trucks.
Cool, glad you were able to find the correct engine side pivot bracket. If LMC only list two Z-bars. You should be good as long as you've got the shorter one. The longer one should be for the 240/300 inline 6's.
Can't wait to see it all come together!

I really want to! I'm actually leaning towards buying one that's out on the road somewhere and building something that way. I know where there are a few just sitting.
