    How much ££ was the electricity you used to charge your car for 16mins?

    • @ski_tron2446
      @ski_tron2446 6 днів тому

      16 minutes would deliver 40kWh, enough for 100 miles or more in the etron (150 in our other EV) but cost a whopping £29. A full battery charged at home costs £6.50 for 200miles. Or 250 miles in my new Q6

    New update on my car. The ac charging system has completely stopped working, it shorts out the chargers and the fuse box switch in my house! Audi assistance came out to look at it, initially blamed the chargers (I have pod point and ohme) but then reassessed when the car also blew out the chargers in the call out van and a plug in 3 pin charger! It seems there is a major issue with both ports.

    • @ski_tron2446
      @ski_tron2446 10 днів тому

      Both ports connect to the same AC charging module (at least they did in the old etron), it looks like that’s where the fault is. But you may have been able to rapid charge with DC fast chargers.

    Thank U for a great video, Nice to know your perspective, being a pilot, certainly well qualified to give good advice about infotainment and vehicle driver assist systems. I’m Norwegian, had my Q6 Quattro S-line for 3 weeks, replacing my previous Etron 55, just like you. I'm now high up in the mountains, driving on relatively narrow road with snow, mainly without visible lines on the road surface. My question to you is how to understand the lane assist system. I just can’t figure out how to avoid the car automatically interfering with my steering, as I constantly will see a red line popping up in the HUD, showing the road margins, unfortunately in the wrong place. I’m well aware of how to deactivate the lane assist with the button on the handle to the left of the steering wheel, but after deactivation I still experience annoying steering responses, obviously intended to avoid my car driving out of the road. I finally found that deactivating another function in the settings menu called Lane warning (translated from Norwegian) seems to solve the problem, at least partially. Another issue is that in don’t fully understand how the adaptive cruice control works. In my old Etron 55 I liked how the car automatically reduced the speed prior to roundabouts etc, as U mentioned in the video. Is it in the Q6 really necessary to have the cruise control activated and set to a certain speed before this function works? (As I recall, this was not so in the old Etron 55). I would ask if you could do a separate video detailing how to operate these two systems in a more detailed manner. I think many Q6 fans would appreciate this, since several technical systems in the Q6 are new and/or adjusted compared to the Etron 55. Thanks again! Regards Arnfinn

    Hi there, I’m so glad I found your channel-your reviews are fantastic! I have a question as a first-time EV owner. Do you use a home charger, and if so, which one do you have? I’ve been offered a free Ohme charger, but I’m not sure what to expect from it. Do you have any recommendations or advice? Also, could you give me an idea of how much installation might cost? Thanks so much, and I’m looking forward to more of your reviews!

    • @ski_tron2446

      I do have a home charger, which makes life with an EV very simple. I now have 2 chargers, one from Indra and another from Ohme. I accepted the Ohme offer from Audi as we now have two EVs. It was installed on their behalf by ChargedEV. I recommend the Ohme charger. Just choose between the pod which has a socket for the Audi cable, or the pro which has its own cable and a small screen. Then check out my electricity tariff videos and pick a suitable tariff for cheap home charging.

    Hi I’ve just received my Q6 etron, wondering if you managed to get the adaptive cruise to to read signs and adjust speed to suit? My old q5 used to change the speed according to signs automatically without touching anything but I can’t seem to get this car to do it!

    • @ski_tron2446
      @ski_tron2446 23 дні тому

      I’ve got the speed limiter to auto adapt to speed limits, but it looks like there’s a higher spec adaptive cruise in some models that also has speed adjustment for corners and speed limits. I know the Ed1 has lane departure warning with emergency assist, as opposed to lane departure warning on the Sport and Sline, but I don’t know of any ACC changes between UK models, they aren’t listed on the Audi configurator. Would be a good feature to have.

    I have an Audi e-tron 55 quattro, similar to yours, a 2020 model. While planning my first trip to Europe for December, I noticed that the navigation system isn’t prioritising Ionity chargers-it keeps using Fastned and Total Energies instead. Since I have an Ionity Passport subscription, it's more cost-effective for me to use their network. My maps are up to date, but I can't seem to figure out how to plan routes around Ionity chargers. Do you know of any way to do this? Would really appreciate your help!

    • @ski_tron2446
      @ski_tron2446 Місяць тому

      You could use A Better Route Planner and set Ionity as a preferred network but I’d just use the Ionity app. Click on the menu top right, enter the route and Id suggest you also show alternative stops in the app and you’ll have the option to pull in somewhere if the planned stop looks tight. Rerun the navigation plan from current location after each stop if you deviate from plan A. You could also put each Ionity stop into the Audi nav. Add them all and set as stopovers.

    Great video and explains much better than the Octopus website. I’m currently on economy 7 with the old teleswitch meter which might be discontinued in June 2025 so need to get a smart meter and new tariff. Like the idea of Intelligent Octopus as 6hr off peak will work for me. I just wonder if it can be set to definitely deliver the off peak rate during those hours as we set the dishwasher and washing machine for off peak, don’t want the off peak to be delayed and end up paying full rate for those items being used. It might not seem much in the overall cost but the sceptic in me thinks that Octopus will wangle the rates to suit them and not me. after all , they’re a company out to make as much profit as possible.

      Intelligent Octopus will definitely give you 6 hours of cheap use every night, 2330 - 0530, whether you have a car plugged in or not. But you might be better off with EON drive V4. Where I live their rates are lower by day and by night, and you get 7 hours off peak.

      Sorry for the slow reply! Missed your comment. I’ve used all season tyres on my last cars. Falken AS220 and Vredestein Quatrac. Both are great tyres all year and are better than budget winter tyres in the Alps. Never used chains. With the eTron it’s been on its standard summer tyres (lease co won’t fund winter or all season) and I’ve got away with it. I carry socks as they are easy to fit, but they don’t last if it’s patchy snow and some tarmac patches. It’s hard to get chains that fit the low clearance on the eTron 55, but I have a set from the USA, so far unused. If your tyres are due to be changed swap to all season tyres with the mountain/snowflake symbol like the Vredestein Quatrac pro or Michelin crossclimate.

My car and charger are compatible, the car charges as soon as you plug in, the IOG app then creates a charge schedule however the car continues to charge and ignores the schedule. There are no timers etc set up on the car or audi app. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    • @ski_tron2446
      @ski_tron2446 2 місяці тому

      Yes they do. The eTron has a very smart thermal system which recovers surplus heat and redirects it to where required, like taking motor heat and warming the cabin or battery. Thats why I see the efficiency improve after an hour when on long drives. They don’t have battery preheat, but as the battery charges it will warm and the charge rate improves. I’ve never seen below 90kw charging and it soon climbs to 150kw.

      There's an app trick you can do and get the cheaper rate for the entire day, regardless if your car is charging (must be connected). This only works if you've setup with charger integration, won't work with car API.

    Hi, video interesting. We're taking our Niro EV to the Alps in Jan. Did you fit winter tires?

    • @ski_tron2446
      @ski_tron2446 3 місяці тому

      I didn’t fit winter tyres. Les Gets is fairly low for ski resorts and the road up isn’t too arduous. I’ve done this trip every year for 3 years in the EV on summer tyres and always got away with it. I carry a set of chains and I have some snow socks too - they are easy to fit for a short spell on snow but won’t last for long. Haven’t used either. On my last car (diesel Hyundai Santa Fe) I used all season tyres. Vredestein Quatrac and Falken AS210s. Both were brilliant and in severe snow were better than budget winter tyres. The compound in EV tyres usually has a lot of silica as that helps with low rolling resistance, but it also has a benefit in low temperatures. When I’ve driven in light snow in the EV it’s been pretty good. The traction control system combined with the instant response of the electric motors will help you keep moving. Law in French Alps is that you must have either winter tyres or all season tyres or carry chains/socks. See my 2024 video (I’m out of hospital and feeling well now 😀

      @@timstanley5920 if you are buying a pair of tyres anyway then consider swapping all 4 to all season tyres. I found them much better on frosty mornings and in the cold and damp than regular summer tyres. Grip was great all year and they didn’t wear out any faster and weren’t any noisier. In snow they excel.

      My octopus app on my phone communicates with my car rather than with the charger. There is no way at the moment for Octopus to talk to my Indra charger. If you have an Ohme or a Zappi charger Octopus can talk to the charger, and that can be used to charge any EV. As long as octopus can communicate with either the car or the charger then it works well. The technical director of Indra tells me they are working on embedding Intelligent Octopus in the Indra charger, but I have no timescale.
