Winter day out...enjoying the snow, Steak on fire, Flint and steel fire start, wood processing
With one of the first snow falls in Nova Scotia that didn't turn to rain, I decided to go out in the woods for the afternoon. At - 9 celsius with the wind chill it was a great crisp day. I decided to use flint and steel to light the fire, have a coffee and cook a steak on the grill and spend the rest of the day just chilling. Hope you all enjoy !...I sure did (o :

Переглядів 7 тис.6 років тому
In this video I try to show alternatives to expensive brand name gear. I'm not trying to say that less expensive gear is better or as good as brand names, but to simply show that the outdoors can be enjoyed even if you don't have the budget for the big brands.

Why can't people who are reviewing a product tell right at the beginning how much the thing costs? That way when you find out that it's more than you're willing to pay, you can immediately skip the video.

Thank you for this video. I like the way the technique worked out. Definitely better than continuously feeding in dozens of small bits. Glowing red coals are the best. As the late, great Bro Greg always said, "When you have coals, you can do no wrong." Subscribed.

THANK YOU!!! I knew we could use smaller logs, I don't have many large ones but I have a million ones like yours, I live in the woods. I will never run out. The other way is too work intensive. I may try to use large cans for the firebox with lots of airflow. I don't have birch bark but I have dead stalks from my Jerusalem artichokes that I plant all year. They are just like and burn just like birch. Fantastic video thank you.

Spoilt by too much talking. Its a common problem with north americans that they think they need to explain every little detail. That maybe necessary for folks from new york but not for the rest of the world. Just rerun the video and ask yourself does that action actually need an explanation?

Wool is by far the best Clothing Option for anyone interested in the Outdoors, Hunting, Camping, Fishing, Hiking etc. Here's a list of places to find quality affordable Wool gear. Big Bill's 190/210 models for Pants I prefer the Woodsman Bibs model 190 myself 28 Oz 100% wool pants. Fred Asbell for wool jackets/pullovers, Vests etc, Swanndri shirt jac, Aran sweaters or LL bean for wool sweaters and pants socks, Lobben Boots or Valenki boots both are Wool.

I love this pack, I have had it since 2017. One trick I picked up was to find a plastic rectangle office type trash can and slit it into the main compartment. It adds rigidity and helps to waterproof your gear. The trashcan can also be used to get water or collect firewood etc.

That's a great idea. I have the Bushbox XL titanium that we used last week on a wild hike and camp. Using a Swedish fire torch idea looks like a better idea than constantly feeding wood into the stove. I found that by constantly adding wood meant that we had to much smoke and flames. Will certainly be giving this a go at home before trying on a camp.
