    That stove looks so easy to assemble. Things DO taste better when cooked over an open fire. I can't wait for your move too. The trail hawk is one of my favourites. Thumbs up on this one my friend.

      I find the trail hawk is great for small chopping, limbing branches etc. and it's so light weight...good piece of gear

    Love the crow at the end, great finish to a great vid. I also believe safety first with sharp objects, experienced or not accidents can happen. I don't have many fires because I only have a few areas that I frequent regularly and if I use up all the resources I won't have them if I need them. I will use a small fire to cook if I don't have a stove but otherwise the only reason I would use one is for warmth in an emergency situation. Thanks for sharing your breakfast in the woods! Looking forward to your videos on the new land.

    Thank you for packing out and using the wood stove! You don't need to leave your mark in the woods just for me :-) I have a tomahawk that pretty much stays in the car. I honestly don't use it a whole lot though. I f I know I'm gong to need to split fire wood I bring one of the hatchets I split firewood with at home.. I just prefer the extra blade length.
    Thanks for sharing your day! :-)

      I also am an axe guy but decided to try a hawk for the lightest of tasks and it save me from chopping with my knife. Thanks so much for watching and commenting 👍

    A great watch and listen Wayne. That looks to be a good stove and yes food always tastes better with the seasoning of fresh air. Just realised that this video is over 12 months old so I am hoping your move has happened and went well. Love your dog. Happy New Year. Paul :)

    Great meal... I could almost taste it. Moving? Staying on the Island? I'm envious of having a big back yard to do bushcraft in. I tried the Swedish fire torch in my Firebox the other day but I failed. I think maybe the wood was a little too wet on the surface and I didn't have enough small fire to start it with. So, is that chaga I see over your right shoulder??

    • @highlandtrekker
      @highlandtrekker  8 років тому +1

      Oh ya staying on the Island but with acreage to play on !! If you think your wood is a little damp concerning the Swedish fire torch try making wood curls on the 4 logs you're using, it helps a little to get to the dry stuff beyond the surface. It was a great way to spend a few hours !! Thanks for watching and commenting Mark 👍

    I can't agree more tool wise, when I go out longer then 20 hours I take alway's an axe folding saw and a decent knife with me. My axe is a bit heavyer then an tomahawk but does all the things I want, but I never carry a saw bigger then my folding saw, that is enough for me to, my mate uses a bit bigger one nice for logfires but mostly I have small fires and shelters so yeah axe saw and knife , you can't beat that threesome haha.

    • @highlandtrekker
      @highlandtrekker  8 років тому

      I only started using a tomahawk a few months ago and for small tasks they're great, but for average or heavier work an axe is the way to go. Same goes for a folding buck saw, I only use it for bigger jobs or extended trips. Thanks for watching buddy

    Great video brother. I think the issues with axes is no one receives any training to use an axe. We are all trained to use a fork and knife as kids and that becomes second nature. When you think about it when ever you have cut your self with a knife you always wind up saying I shouldn't have done that or @$!# my fault. The problem with axes is most people just pick one up and start swinging it with out anybody showing them how to use one safely. Then the accident happens and because of the nature of the tool it is a bad accident. I hit myself with a hatchet in the shin when I was 9 (found it in a field after a flood). My dad showed me the way to use it safely and never had an accident again. Not even close! I don't think an axe is any more dangerous than a knife. It is just the lack of training and infrequent use that's the problem. From now on my son will be cutting his Eggo's with a hatchet. What is your dog's name? He/she looks like a moving snow man back there. Take care brother and good luck with the move!

    • @highlandtrekker
      @highlandtrekker  8 років тому

      Absolutely...it is the tool that is just picked up and swung but because of the momentum that is generated by this tool, an accident can be brutal !!. My Wife cringes when she sees me showing my Son to use an axe but I feel it is necessary to teach so he is aware of its ability but also very aware of the dangers associated with this tool. Thanks for dropping by Brother !! 👍

      My dog is deaf, I rescued him from a shelter 3 years ago from death row. He does not show much emotion due to his deafness. It was + 2 degrees and we were out for 40 min. ....just saying
