Drive Electric With Domenick
United States
Приєднався 14 лют 2023
Hi there! I've been researching and writing about electric vehicles since 2006 and finally driving them for the past few years. On Drive Electric With Domenick, I'll be sharing my EV ownership journey, starting with a Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD that I bought used with 43,435 miles for $31,900 in early 2023.
I'll also talk about (and hopefully drive) electric vehicles from other brands, as well as charging infrastructure and experiences. Come along for the ride, it's going to be fun!

This Is The Best Accessory For Tesla Model 3 Robotaxi Or Rideshare Drivers
If you bought a used Tesla Model 3 with blemished seats, or just want to protect your investment while you do rideshare driving for Uber or Lyft (or maybe one day, have your car join the Tesla Robotaxi fleet), or even if you'd just like to change up the color of your car's interior, these seat covers from EV Base are just what you need.

Road Tripping 1,300 Miles To Seattle To Deliver Taycan Tires
Переглядів 1,7 тис.2 місяці тому
Had to make a special trip to Seattle from Northern Colorado in a Tesla Model S Plaid to deliver a set of wheels and tires to slap onto a Porsche Taycan. So, of course I took video sharing the charging experience and some of the incredible scenery.

Tesla FSD V12.3.6 Shows Improvement On The DEWD Loop - But Still Not Full Self-Driving
Переглядів 9646 місяців тому
Here's my first drive with Tesla FSD (supervised) V12.3.6 on my standard Drive Electric With Domenick (DEWD) test loop. Definite improvements over V12.3.4, though I still had one "fail". This running of the loop was in light evening traffic with no unexpected situations arising.

Tesla FSD V12.3.4 Fails To Impress, Gets Dubious And Dangerous On The DEWD Loop
Переглядів 4,4 тис.7 місяців тому
My used Tesla Model 3 just updated to FSD 12.3.4 after having V12.3.3 for (maybe) a week. So, of course I drove it through my standard Drive-Electric-With-Domenick (DEWD) test loop here in Tallahassee, Florida. After being impressed by the previous version, this one seemed marginally better in a couple of ways, but worse in others. It pulled a couple dubious moves, and a dangerous one - when it...
Tesla FSD V12.3.3 Tested On DEWD Loop. Is It Finally A Usable Feature?

My 2018 Tesla Model 3 RWD Long Range that I've owned for a little over a year had its FSD (Supervised) feature updated from 12.3 to 12.3.3, so that means another swing through my standard test loop (DEWD Loop) through Tallahassee, Florida. It feels like the promise of actual full-self driving may be within reach with this update. Of course, that eventuality depends on external factors, like reg...

Tesla V12.3 FSD Beta Hits The DEWD Loop For First Time!

Finally got the V12 FSD beta update a couple days ago (V12.3, to be exact), and this is my first time running it through my standard test loop. What did you do with the Dolorean you bought back in 1985?
How many miles were on it when you got it?
Interesting to see how the back seat comes out. The white looks soooo good. Great choice 👍
Originally, I thought they were sending black ones,so I was surprised and apprehensive about the white when I opened the box. They’ve been installed for a couple of weeks now,and I really do love the color change.
@ I really like the contrast. You’ll have to report back how well they stay clean. The original Tesla ones are remarkable for how easily they clean up.
Yeah, I was thinking that might be helpful. So far,so good, but I haven’t worn new jeans in them yet,so unsure about dye transfer. I suspect if some color does come off, cleaning wipes would probably take care of it.
If you know of any cloth seat covers like this, I would be interested!
@ElectricBrian I'll keep an eye out.
I think you hit nail on head this is good accessory for ride sharing or even if you rent your car out on something like Turo. Dom are you going to do an updated ownership review of your model 3 experience? And are you thinking of switching it up to another EV any time soon. Model year 2021 or 22 Ioniq 5, Polestar 2, EV6, Mach-E or Volvo XC40 all can be found under 25k and under 21k if you qualify for tax credit.
I'd love to try out a different EV for a while, but my budget isn't in a good place. Maybe I should start ridesharing myself. 🤣
Haha I hear ya! But, as you know better than me, the model 3 is a great daily driver that is both fun and cheap to fuel.
@M-rk8he I do like the car very much, though, after spending some time in the i7, and also the refreshed Model 3, I'm often reminded it's super noisy (tire/wind) and the ride could be better. There are worse cars to be stuck with.
Just put seat covers in mine, watching someone else suffer through the process was cathartic 😂
In retrospect, maybe 90 minutes of me struggling with the entire installation journey isn't the best UA-cam content, but I like to keep it real. 🤣 I have to say, though, the struggle was worth it. I really do enjoy having white seats.
@DriveElectricWithDomenick I just did fronts on mine, after watching you do the backs I'm gonna go ahead and skip those lol
@undrachvrsage Ok, but I swear it's not as hard as I probably make it look. 🙂
I wish i could be behind that tailpipe🤤 love diesel exhaust
The only logical thing to do with a Tesla is lease lol, the lease deals right now are a no brainer (especially if you don’t drive much)
MAN JUST GO GET A BRAND NEW CAR IF U GOING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT LITTLE BS ITS A USED CAR ITS NOT GOING TO BE PERFECT DAMN
@InTheStreetztv_Reloaded I'm not complaining. Just pointing out what's wrong with this car so people shopping for a used one themselves have an idea what to look for. I love this car!
a lot of these issues you named could’ve been avoided just by being attentive and not slow
Y'all know how to f up a truck 😂😂😂😂

Do you still have the M3 with the PCS issue, can you leave it, still DC and AC charge? I just bought today a 2018 TM3LR with a PCS issue, limited to 32A, still Supercharges
@@EVPHASE Yup, I still have it. Haven't fixed it yet, but my town just got a service center, so I hope to do it soon, budget depending.
@@DriveElectricWithDomenick Wow, do you know how long will it last like this, is it ok to AC or DC charge like this? Should I return my used 2018 to the dealer, will they even take it back. I never heard of this until I went to charge it at Tesla, it Supercharged fine. Any advice would be appreciated, I dont want to spend $2k to fix this
@EVPHASE Hard to say how long it will last. Mine has been this way probably for at least two years. It's probably ~$1,800 to fix, so if that was priced in, it would make sense to keep it. Regarding charging: DC charging is separate from this, so would still have that even if the PCS totally fails.
@@DriveElectricWithDomenick Are you sure about this, did an expert tell you this?
@@DriveElectricWithDomenick I didnt factor it in, know it had this issue. If I did I wouldnt have bought it. I see forums online saying if the pcs fails, the car will die, also Supercharging. And Supercharging could make it worse or possibly make it fail even worse. Has Tesla told you anything about this, said you can leave it till it fails eventually?
Hey Dom, long time listener to your podcasts, nice to see you doing videos! Just a little hopefully constructive feedback - it’d be nice to have a whole lot less zooming in and out, it’s disorienting and takes you out of the moment. Also might help to run the audio through some optimization to reduce wind noise and things. Keep it up! 👍
@@zacharyhalvorson Thanks for watching, and the suggestions. I am using a voice isolation setting in Final Cut Pro, but it wasn't enough. Should probably have used external mics as well.

Def v3 chargers at first stop. You can tell by the thinner cables and the fact they are labeled ABCD and not just AB
I find it’s easier to look at the handle. v2 have a silver ring at the base of the handle and v3 have a black ring.

@@Bzzap83 True, but I was also delivering the car as well.
@@DriveElectricWithDomenickI saw Corbin's update on the race so now I know the est of the story 😮
@@Bzzap83 Yes, we can now say we are racing to Boston from Seattle with a small fleet of EVs.
Ug, looks like Apalach is going to get clobbered.
@@SpottedSharks Yeah, this video will be a reminder of how things were pre-Helene.
I thought the video was gonna be about something wrong with the Tesla itself because it was a Tesla. You should rename the video to be called what I didn’t see wrong when I purchased a used car. That would give people a better idea of what the video was actually about.
Damned, Dom. Now I need to go back to Florida. 😂
Dom, u need to chiiiiiiill ! Let fsd take you there! Just chill
Afraid to google it 😂…felt that
I remember going to Apalachicola and St George Island a number of times as a kid.
I’m gonna take a wild ass guess! You don’t have kids?? Because if you did the last thing on your list of things that aren’t quite right would be a lengthy description of paint chips on a six year old vehicle. I would say you are fortunate it is a Tesla because if it were say a BMW or like at six years and out of warranty you would be many thousands for things needing replaced or scheduled maintenance costs. 😊
Loving the scenery, very beautiful! That FSD has a mind of it's own 😀- definitely needs that (Supervised) addition to it's title.
We got to get you out to California for a drive down Highway one! My parents are from Pensacola and I have to say there is nothing like a Florida beach, the cleanest whitest sand I’ve ever seen just a bit too humid for my taste but otherwise beautiful
@bowefamilyEV California has some great coast, too. Thing is, I used to drive this stretch every work day for a bunch of years, so for me, there's also a sentimental element to it.
I don't think it does use google navigation, because they are often different from each other. Tesla will not know you can turn right and have you loop around the block so you can turn left, or it will navigate down a road that doesn't exist. Google Maps has none of those issues.
@ElectricBrian Thanks for this, I needed some pushback to take a closer look at this. So, apparently Google supplies the maps, but the navigation element is from a company called Mapbox.
@@DriveElectricWithDomenick Yes, I have googled how to edit maps on Mapbox (it's so easy with Google Maps) to fix some of the issues I come across, but haven't figured out how to.
US 98 is such a great drive. Don't tell anyone otherwise the secret will get out!
You don’t have a charging issue , that’s working just fine .
😊
nice video also you are very sincere thank you.
Dom, we all know hindsight is 20-20. You didn't say if you bought the used model 3 from Tesla. Used Teslas CAN BE a good value, provided you do your homework. Tesla gives an extra year warranty once the original factory warranty expires. I would never buy any used car from a location where there is snow and road salt. Winters are just too hard on an EV, especially the battery. Good luck my friend. Hope things work out for you.
Thanks for the video and details! Suggestion - look at the camera lens. not at the screen. Its really distracting! :)
Bought a 2019 93000km m3 Longrange AWD: now almost 100000km: perfect
Only the cars issue is the charging, everything else is the user or environment 👎
I'm thinking of buying a used model 3 in future and was curios what too look for. Your video was helpful. Thanks!
Looking forward to your putting 12.5 through the DEWD loop. I bought a month of FSD for a road-trip and got 12.5 yesterday and it did really well on my usual commute, but it's not as challenging as your loop.
@@SpottedSharks Over here waiting impatiently for an update. It's been a while.
Useful video, Domenick. Two additional things. If the PCS totally fails, your car is completely comatose. Dark, dead, locked out. (Just happened to my less than 1 year old Model S. Without any warnings) car will not connect to app. Second, while the PCS box is indeed under the rear seat, the RandR procedure involves lifting the car, lowering the large battery, draining coolant. From under the rear seat, a number of of items have to be disconnected or removed. It is a big job.
Ugh.
After watching this video I'm fully convinced to buy m3p. There is nothing to spend on this car. I spend over 4k on my mk6 golf r a year , running stage 2 ecu and tcu tune , changed tranfer case, water pump, oil leak etc cos I'm sensitive to my car I want everything perfect. Since I realized how much power this m3p is making . I have been watching tones of videos to see if it has major maintenance issues. Thanks for this video
Did you get it yet?
