You can clearly hear a drop in high end in the 3 mo old strings. I don’t know what you are hearing. The XTs are also slightly darker.

Hello, I have an American Charvel guitar, there is a Korean Floyd Rose, the tremolo is practically on the body of the guitar, I practically do not use the thermolo itself, I am wondering whether replacing the Floyd Rose with a better one will affect the sound? Will the tone of the guitar change much? Is it worth changing Floyd Rose for this purpose?

If the guitar rings for 10 seconds only, better to change the guitar than the bridge

I did like the sound of the Schaller... on the open string notes, but when the Special had more sustain on the fretted note (C), well, I play many more fretted notes, and the difference between the notes was that the fretted one took the resonance and the "tone" influenced by the resonance of the entire guitar/neck length and the effect,if any, of the nut and tuner mass.

Personally, sounds like the mid knob could've been dialed in a bit lower on all for the in-the-mix sounds. Many of the sounds get so stuffy at times.

Currently saving for the caparison AH8, since caparison basically doesnt exist in my country i have only tried a couple of 6 strings, which felt absolutely amazing. Im thinking that if i dont mesh with it, then i Can return it. But i have faith in the craftmanship of caparison. And look forward to when i have enough money.

@Petar Makes Noise Hey Petar, how did you know which size of the Schaller Lockmeister would suit your guitar? I see they have Lockmeister 6 32mm,37mm, 40mm and so on ? Is the Floyd Rose Special the same size on every guitar so It is only one Lockmeister that fits ? I have a Jackson SDX that I want to switch the Floyd Special to a Lockmeister 6 but I do not know which size to go for.

Just upgrade the stock floyds brass block,much cheaper than buying a schaller.Not enough change to even bother really.Staying in tune is what you need.

Hey my friends! the fact is that you are comparing gold with cheap iron here's why: Schaller Lockmeister 6 is the quivalenf of the Floyd Rose Original NOT the FR speial, of course SCHALLER is better :) that is bassically an FR Original 100% the special is the crappiest one... of course that sound worte than the lockmaster ;) no more to say, the only difference are commercial agreements, for example here in urope doesnt not make sense buy floyd rose original... for our market is schaller... for US is Floyd Rose Original , the prices speak for themselves, in europe FRO comes with additional taxes... but it would cost the same as a schaller, same quality, equals... thats only about commergial agreement ... the is a same factory and factory process... the real differences are between the FR1000 ,FR original and special cheers....

fantastic test, thank you so much for going to all the effort and for making it simple without any playing. I think that helps take any subjectivity out of the equation. Well thought out and very objective comparison. I bounced it into a DAW (albeit with the compressed youtube file but thats ok all things being equal) then thru amp sims to hear it in context with various amps....still sounds consistent with the different strings...surprising. D'Addario have done a stellar job with these strings. (I have been using XL's since the 80's) You said you could hear the difference acoustically with new strings but not in the recording...maybe the preamp/AD is missing really high frequencies that your ears can hear. What sample rate did you record at? Maybe there are losses in the recording chain that amount for some of the lack of differences you are hearing once recorded. Lower sample rate (44.1/48kHz) digital recording doesn't really capture high end well. Nowhere near what your ears will hear. Nyquist theorem...higher the frequency the less samples (and detail) per cycle. Good to know there is a lot less difference than with those other well known coated strings though.

excellent review of this pedal! i just got the newest gehenna pedal without the boost and its even better, in my experience. a lot mor bass, for instance. you did this video just like the way i like videos, showing each knobs function all alone, then creating sounds with different knob settings 9/10 rating from me! thankyou for psting!

Im gonna be honest not significant audio wise but if you feel is an "upgrade" its fine but honestly the price tag on it doesn't justify the small improvement, I would have gone for a Gotoh because the price is closer to the special, im gonna put a gotoh on my next 7 string, I love all FR because no other bridge gives me the comfort on my right hand.

I did just return home with a package of each to restring my esp eclipse bb and wondered if they were any different before putting on a new set. D’Adarrio will always have a buck to make off me so long as I can pick a guitar, pick a string, or pick my nose, thanks for doing the work on an educated answer, I feel akin to everything you described personally and the evidence speaks for itself. I do like the acoustic tone these hold as well, I wonder if you tested the same strings with no pickups, just mic’d on say a hollow body what would the results reveal? I use the 10 52s -the xls come with a lite top heavy bottom (same way I like my women) but I’m a bass player through and through -that’s my cross to bare. Anyway That and some 5$ dollar bargain strings thrown in there for comparison would be a litmus test I’d be party to, I could go on for days with this topic- but to my immediate question on the difference in these 2 specific sets you hit the nail on the head. You might say your efforts resonate with me🤓 I’ve also been known to put dadario acoustic lights on heavy bodied bolt on lps. The projection and gritty crash tones with active pick ups is music to my ears. I like the feedback and harmonics you can get with them too but the g string always throws a wrench in the highs, if it’s wound it’s too dull and flat and if it’s solid it’s too high and twangy, the eq can only do so much . Extremely good points there mate! I always tell people, don't just go for the cheapest option, because even after a short period of time you would have already improved your skills and you don't want the tool in your hands pulling you back!

Schaller sounded louder with the chords. But the Floyd sounded louder on single notes.

I was using NYXL 10 46 and decided to try XT 10 46, i think the XT its more clear, soft for bends, and skinny than NYXL. Do You think the XT 11 49 it's like NYXL 10 46?
