Bit of a slower paced video this time around, let me know if you enjoyed the change of pace! Wetforming leather, with corn?? | Leather Lessons
Переглядів 1 тис.2 роки тому
We reach the penultimate video in the series, where things get wet and full of corn - wait, no I mean like a corn-hole gets stuffed. No no, I mean, leather is involved. I did want to include more examples rather than just folding a piece of scrap to a right-angle, but honestly I stuffed up the filming and we were stretched for time as-is. Please show me any examples of stuff you went out and we...

I made it the whole way through this video without once making a joke about edging, and I really feel that I deserve to be congratulated for that Join me as I move through the next step in completing the mediaeval costrel I've been working on! Only a few more lessons left in this series, tooling will come next, followed by wet forming, and finally sealing. Music from Epidemicsound
Leather Lessons | saddle stitching tutorial
Переглядів 2,2 тис.2 роки тому
I hope that you guys enjoyed this demonstration of how to clean an edge and run some thread through it using a saddle stitch. Of course, this is very prescriptive and there are lots more ways that you could do this - I've only shown a saddle stitch with a wooden clamp, two needles and an awl, not all of which are necessary! Unfortunately, you can only squeeze so much detail into seven and a hal...
Leather Lessons | glue tutorial
Переглядів 16 тис.2 роки тому
Gluing leather is the sort of thing that I gloss over all the time, but there's definitely more detail that we can go into for this step of the leathercrafting process. Hope that you guys found this interesting, and I extra hope that the diagram made as much sense as I thought it did. This is of course following on from our first video in the series, where I showed you how to cut leather with a...

This is part one in what will be regular installments of fresh, steamy #content focused on beginner leathercrafting techniques. Up next week: gluing! What fun, Shannon!
😅😅😅😅
I have to ask. What weight of leather did you use in this project?
This is fantastic. LOL.
For anyone who wants to give this a shot without that many tools you can just buy some glover’s needles from a store called, Tandy leather. Glover’s needles pierce the leather and make the holes in the leather for you without the need for a pricking iron.
Pro - cess
You go Shannon!
You need a turning rod to turn it inside out, a wooden dowel would work
Sweet! Way to go, Shannon!
do yo u have a pdf version of the pattern?
The Nintendo reboot special earned the sub 😂❤
I really am enjoying your videos. I'm 81,but spent my younger years restoring a large victorian home in Michigan, USA. I watched you hot water installation, which prompted me to remember our similar wet basement situation. The plumber supported the water heater off the floor with 4 hockey pucks. He explained they are waterproof, won't wick up water and allow air movement under the heater to keep it dry , I'll keep watching The ox is slow, but the earth is patient GHM
The one thing I hate is how you used that first tool! You are meant to roll it! Not slide it! That's why it's a semi-circle, for easier cutting!! But otherwise, great leather cutting asmr.
Hey champ, you're wrong. It's not a semi-circle, it's actually a complex curve that has a different radius at many given points; this is to enable you to make many different kinds of cuts, such as a push cut, a rolling cut, or a pull cut. The reason you do a push cut on the very tip of the circumference would be for fine control over the cut, whereas a push cut using the middle of the curve has less ability to move from left to right, and this would be used for long straight cuts in thick leather. But otherwise, great comment.
@Cxizent Oh. This is why I need to learn more about these tools before I criticize others. I'm sorry. But now I understand, thank you. 😊
This is amazing, simple yet elegant ! Do you sell your work anywhere ? Would love to support an Aussie creator
This is one of the best videos ever. Love it. I actually raided the back lot of a furniture store where they also recovered pieces. I got lots of great things there. Happy foraging.
This This is Great (●'◡'●)👍
Do I need to stitch it or is glueing the leather enough?
Just discovered you and man you’re undiscovered and underrated, great tutorials man. 👊🏻🤙🏻
Really well done sir! Entertaining, easy to follow, simple yet elegant. I love how simple you kept it but it still turned out beautiful! 👊🏻🤙🏻
Neets Like it or Not, your leather is going to love it.
❤
😂😂😂
Your dedication to the craft is astounding. Keep up the great work!
Omg your thumb nail
Thank you for making these videos.
super cool! can you leave a link for the tool kit that you use?
Why wouldn't you waterproof the leather before you stitch it together?
Food question! Several answers: 1) The leather is HARD after water proofing, so you can't really shape it or stitch it easily B) The leather needs to be wet formed before it's water proofed, and that's much easier to do when it's all in one piece, and finally iii) You want to waterproof the seam, too! If you waterproofed two pieces of leather and then just stuck them together, the seam would leak
I was just wondering why you keep just one finger nail longer than the others. Is it for something to do when you making something. Just wondering thanks for the video it was vary good. 😊
Well normally a coke nail is on someone's pinky, but I've got a really big nose. Seriously, it's purely individual sartorial choice, and not related to making or leather crafting. Glad you liked the video!
What tools would you recommend to a beginner leather worker to make this project? I simply want to make a cool dice tray! And keep the tools in case I find another future project that peaks my interest
I'd recommend the tools I used in the video, really. If you're not confident with the knives, I'd recommend having a look at my cutting leather tutorial, where I go more in detail about the different knives you might want to use.
Wow!! I’m so impressed. Been looking into a way to make a tray myself, so thank you for the wonderful video!
What a wind bag. 2 min of content in 6 min.
1. What weight of leather are you using? 2. what prompted you to cut the middle and ring finger out of the palm side of the pattern? 3. what changes did you have to make to the pattern to get it fit properly? 4. If you had to do it over, what would you change? 5. Do you think its better to stitch it all by hand, or could you machine stitch some of it? I ask because I will making something similar for a Elvar Mann type High Republic Jedi in the next year which requires gloves with long cuffs that get covered with a bracer.
Oh boy! Best of luck in making your own gloves, this was very rewarding for me. 1: this is goathide that's about 1.5-2.0mm thick. 2: the fingers need to be wide enough to wrap around the sides of your fingers, so they need to be wider in total than the width of the glove; therefore they need to be cut that wide and added on later. 3: mostly extending the fingers and getting the junction at the knuckles to sit in the right spot. These gloves are VERY tight. 4: minor pattern adjustments, and honestly not much else. I'm still extremely happy with these! 5: you can stitch it however you like, I personally prefer hand stitching, and a saddle stitch will always be stronger than a machine stitch because the thread crosses over in each stitch hole. Hope this all helped! Thanks for the questions
Hi, awesome video which inspired me to learn leather working so I can make my own costume. Are there any templates or patterns that you used available for us? Thanks a lot!
". . . nebulous quantities of that something as provided by a voice-over . . ." yeah, I subscribed. Thumbs up!
great job
Mate can we please get more of 7:03 to 8:08. Also what is that action called? Thanks
Turning leather always sucks
very impressive work
lol nintendo reboot 2:01 ....flash back .... ..... lol subscribed humor thank goodnesss...
Hi this video is great! The glue you used is it flexible after it dries? I am using some leather finger cots to fix the finger lining on a baseball glove and the glue needs to be flexable.
Hi, thanks for the kind words! The glue is flexible, yes - leather as a flexible material needs flexible glue
SO MUCH DETAIL!!! AMAZING! ............... So...shouldn't it be black and NOT the beautiful brown?
Thankyou! This is based on the colour and model of the pants in-game - some of the promotional art showed them in different colours, but I decided to go with this one.
you can make kangaroos into leather ? o.o I thought they'd be protected or something
It's interesting, right? Kangaroos actually are routinely culled in certain areas - there's a LONG conversation about the way we humans manage their populations that I'll spare you!
Bro that nail is gnarly!!!! Had to close my eyes to enjoy thr video. That thing is so distracting.
Yeah, I wanted to grow my other nails out but your mum wouldn't let me
It is disgusting. So girly. Stopped watching after a minute.
Good lord cut your damn nail...
Good job 👍, I also liked end of video
Hahaha thanks, I enjoyed including that behind the scenes bit lol

The reveal! Certainly not finished yet (I'm not happy with the spring weight and the toe flex) but functional #spacemarine stilts for my forthcoming #warhammer40k cosplay! That's right, ya boi is moving away from leathercraft for this next project, and I'm going to be struggling with foam and whatnot. Getting these stilts right is a crucial first step though, and I'm excited to get into the meat of this cosplay and show you all how it comes together! These stilts are taken from SO MANY different builds on Obscurus Crusade, TheRPF, and other builders here on Instagram. Notably some other Aussies like @becosplayforge and Nerdcorecosplay (who seems to have deleted his socials) in addition to others that 40k cosplayers will be very familiar with, like Pilerud, Hasenbrau, and Sylgian. I'll fill the forthcoming UA-cam video with links to all the forum posts I used, so there's your him to go subscribe to my channel (link in bio (I swear to god I'm gonna post videos there)) #cosplay #spacemarines #spacemarines40k #40k #stilts #warhammercosplay #40kcosplay
