Great video. I've recently bought my first tools sharp enough to cut leather. I'm starting small and plan to make a small belt pouch. I bought the tools at a 2nd hand store only because the box they came in was still sealed. Now all I have to do is get up the courage to actually cut the leather. It's an off cut I got at a ren fair, I didn't want to go all out till I knew if I would like it. I've gone back and watched all your videos just to build up my courage. This tray is lovely, I hope some day to make lovely things to. Thank you.
Thankyou so much for the kind words! You cut that leather when you feel ready, y'know? There are no wrong answers here, and best of luck making your own stuff! It's the most rewarding thing.
Good luck! I am the same way about fabric when I get nice new fabric for a project. I hope your first project turns out great and you learn a lot!
Follow-up comment: I saw a collection of used leather tooling stamps at a thrift store a few months ago and had to stop myself from getting them because I don't need another hobby right now but I thought of you.
I don't understand this concept of "not needing another hobby right now" lol
Really well done sir!
Entertaining, easy to follow, simple yet elegant.
I love how simple you kept it but it still turned out beautiful! 👊🏻🤙🏻
This is amazing, simple yet elegant !
Do you sell your work anywhere ? Would love to support an Aussie creator
That came out beautifully.
How many takes did you need to actuallt roll a 20. 😎
Actually slightly less than twenty takes! I nearly ruined the shot by reflexively grabbing the die lol
What tools would you recommend to a beginner leather worker to make this project? I simply want to make a cool dice tray! And keep the tools in case I find another future project that peaks my interest
I'd recommend the tools I used in the video, really. If you're not confident with the knives, I'd recommend having a look at my cutting leather tutorial, where I go more in detail about the different knives you might want to use.

Wow!! I’m so impressed. Been looking into a way to make a tray myself, so thank you for the wonderful video!
A4? I am confused and infuriated.
Aha! My fiendish plan worked!
When I have downloaded patterns to my printer the size reference is usually A4 if that helps.
Nicely done. Is there a trick to getting the basketweave to stay aligned all the way across the piece? It seems like one could easily work around to the other side only to find the pattern has drifted.
Thanks! Good question, and I did steer away from going in to too much detail there. I find it works to start in a corner, and you can see I'm just doing one line at a time. This isn't perfect, but moving over one line by one means that your tool will be aligned by the previous line.
@@Cxizent Yeah right, that makes sense. If you start in one corner and just work across evenly, you won't have to meet up any one diagonal row later. I'm sure it still takes plenty of practice and skill to get a neat result across a big flat area. That camouflage tool probably helps to tidy up any spacing changes on the far side. Cheers.
You've got it exactly! You can see a bit of an unfortunate spot near the middle where I could have gone closer to the Cxizent stamp and hidden it with the camouflage tool, but now I'm nit picking
Neets Like it or Not, your leather is going to love it.
Welcome back! It always amazes me how much some relatively simple tooling and carving can improve a piece. Do you have anywhere you recommend for buying leather stamps/carving tools? Great video, can't wait for the next one.
Thanks! I'm exactly the same, it can be so much fun to just experiment with repeating patterns of stamps, and it really improves the piece a LOT to my eye, for how much effort it is.
I buy most of my stamps from Birdsall Leathercraft in Sydney, but that's just mostly because they're close to me and I can go look at the thing. I've also bought some from Lefflers, iirc, and those were fine too.
Welcome back dude! I love that you bought / have metal dice. They've always seemed a bit too fanciful for me. I love the plastic clinks of regular dice. I have a simple tray like this one, no tooling or anything, that's a hexagon shape! It unsnaps just wider than an A4 piece of paper so it fits well in with my D&D stuff. I just love that it's a hexagon because most dice trays are rectangular.
Thankyou! And that's so cool, but sounds like it's approaching nightmare geometry for me lol, even though hexagons are the bestagons. It sounds like a cool piece!
Welcome back!!!
This looks amazing, I love the tooling, from a distance it really does give the illusion of an actual basket weave.
Thanks! I just hope this doesn't set an unrealistic expectation that I'll be making videos, y'know?
I cannot get enough of this tool. I think that just everything I make from now on will be basketweave
Did some leather work for my final major Uni project and can confirm bevelling the edges is a thing of almost unparalleled satisfaction
It's the reward you give yourself for cutting nice edges
Yess, you're back! What a cool project, and it looks very beginner-friendly too!
Thanks! I do what I can to make the hobby seem less intimidating
This is such a lovely and practical thing. I now have to find a source of tools that I can afford so I can make it as I think it'd be a wonderful Christmas present for various people
Go for it! I seriously recommend people buy cheap kits from eBay or Amazon - you'll very quickly find out the tools that you use, and thus the ones that you should spend more on upgrading. Best of luck!
Great work as always!
Will you be attending PAX this year?
I surely will be! Geralt on Saturday and Sunday, Waluigi on Friday
very impressive work
Fab 🦖
turned out really pretty!
Thanks, I tried really hard
This channel is criminally underrated
Hey thanks! Tell all your friends (but it probably doesn't help that it's been months between uploads)

Very nice.
Thankyou!
