    Same as you, same fracture, I was able to walk on it no real issues but I did hear something when I went over on my ankle out running and the next morning it swole up like a balloon. Went for an X-ray and confirmed the same and they said keep it in strapping for 4 weeks. They said I didn’t need a boot cause it was stable just always wear a supportive shoe when walking.

      It sounds exactly the same mate. I would definitely do as I mentioned and use it when you can as long as it isn’t painful. I think it’s the stiffness that prolongs it to be honest so try to limber it up when you can and it’s not painful to do. I don’t want to make it worse for you obviously 😂 so use your common sense and you will make a 100% recovery, I have zero issues with it now. Good luck

    Just finished watching your videos on this injury as I'm suffering with it myself. Started about a month ago, ankle stiffness and lots of pain when turning etc. I have run through it, but only managing about 25k a week now. My view is that if I stop, it will just lay dormant until I start running again. I need the motivation to keep working on it. I'm spending about 45 minutes to an hour a day on stretches and massage and it's definitely been working. Managed 5 miles today and I'd say the pain was about a 3 or 4 towards the end and it just feels tired now. It's a horrible horrible injury and I'm so gutted to have it! My biggest fear is something rupturing or there being permanent damage, but I guess I'll just have to judge that day by day. Im going to pop back with a link to the exercises video I've been following. It's really helped!

      Thank you so much for this, I will certainly check it out. I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling with it too. Stopping running is the worst thing I did but to be honest, that was recommended by my doctor but knowing what I’ve learned now is that i should have just reduced my load and it would have contributed to mending the tendon alongside doing the exercises. I’m keeping the pain below 3/10 and did 8 miles this morning so I’m waiting to see how it feels tomorrow. I’m going to add gym work back in this week it’s just trying to balance it all to keep the pain down and I’m hoping doing gym doesn’t add to the pain and stop me running again. It’s so hard to get right! Have you tried any orthotics yet? I overpronate so aggressively that standard orthotics aren’t helping and the NHS are making me a custom pair at some point…. Still waiting for that though. I’ve got a scan booked in too to see exactly what the problem is. He saw me this week and thinks the inflammation is right behind the ankle bone so they’re investigating further with a sport physiotherapist in place to clear this for good. I would recommend getting in the process of dealing with it to avoid it getting permanent damage although that takes some doing to get past stage one but if left untreated it can get bad slowly. You sound like you’re on top of it though and I wish you all the best in your recovery! Have a look at spark healthy runner on UA-cam, I’ve learned so much about this on that channel and it’s very underrated. Let us know how you’re getting on with it. Best of luck

      P.S I’ve just searched this video and I’ve watched it before and do the exercises he suggested (I feel like I’ve seen every vid on YT covering this 😂) It’s very good and I’ll keep doing it until it’s gone! Thank you

    • @IRunDaily
      @IRunDaily 2 дні тому

      @@StevoRuns I haven't tried orthotics yet, but do have some. I'm reticent because I don't want to rely on them too much if I can help it! My last video had mixed views on whether I should have kept running or not, but I'm glad I did. I will keep the intensity and volume low for the next 4-6 weeks and cross train, strength and mobility train like never before! I'm actually a little bit grateful because I'm in some really good habits now that should hopefully make me fitter and stronger in the long run. I'm looking for a solid stability shoe now to get me through the next couple of months. Any recommendations?

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns 2 дні тому

      @ Hi mate, I did watch your video earlier regarding this injury. It sounds like you’re doing all the right things to be honest and I will take a leaf from your book for recovery! Can i ask what stretches and massage you’re doing please? I’m sat at the very second with a ball deep in my calf and rolling the soles of my feet too. I’ve just done the heel raises and band work etc aswell. I can’t help with the stability shoes I’m afraid, I did try some Hoka Arahi at the start of this pain before I knew what it was and I will get some new ones too after I’ve done some research. If you find a good pair please let me know and I’ll do the same. Keep doing what you’re doing and your running streak is something to be proud of!

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns 22 дні тому

      Cheers Mark. Well not extra large as such, but something deeper in the arch as I’m still pronating too much in all the pairs I’ve tried and my left doesn’t match my right so they need a mould of my feet and to make some. Also, if they are too hard it aggravates the tendon too… not that I’m a difficult patient or anything 😂

    Thank you for making this video. I landed on my ankle badly while working on a rebounder two days ago. It was bad enough to pass out from the pain. The emergency department did and xray to find I had an avulsion fracture on the lateral malleolus. Got a moon boot and crutches and sent back home. The physio at the ED suggested I wean off the boot after a week, which makes me nervous (broken bone!) but your video is encouraging. I am going to trust my gut and help my body to heal quickly. Not being able to run for a few weeks is going to drive me nuts though.

    Sorry to hear the injury has not progressed yet. The strengthening is helpful....for later. Today's issue is your foot rigidity though. I'd speak to an osteopath and ask them to increase supination using METs and articulation the feet.

    I am pretty sure I acquired this same injury after my 3:34 marathon in April of this year. I think it was from wearing Nike Vapor Flys all the time during my training and past 3 marathons. I overpronate and the VaporFlys were not stable enough. I am convinced those trainers wrecked my PTT. I had to take a solid 6 weeks off. Just walking and lifting. I also found a helpful video of PTT strengthening exercises. I also wore orthotics until it felt better and was able to stop wearing those. I feel 95% healed. I was able to lightly train for my 6th marathon which was Berlin but since my training was a lot lighter I ran a 3:52 and wore stability shoes (Brooks Adrenalines). I just hit 6 months and feel much better. I am still running. I just wear mostly stability trainers and that seems to keep it from flaring.

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns 3 місяці тому

      Cheers for writing and the advice. Yes I’m partly blaming my shoe selection too to be honest. My feet are weak and stiff, they feel dead and I’m putting it down to footwear choice throughout my whole life. My orthotics are in all day now and are staying in. I’ll keep lifting but as I mentioned, I’ll take out the exercises that seem to be flaring it up. Well done on working out what’s worked for you to sort the problem, I’ll hopefully get there too. Cheers

      @@StevoRuns It's definitely a patient injury to deal with. Do you know when you are close to healed is when you can do a single heel lift. I do miss Vaporfly fast shoes! It was difficult running the Berlin marathon in my heavy brooks! But I did not upset the PTT and I took an additional few weeks off and I feel fine. Every week with the exercises...it feels better!! Also if you start running again....just easy and slow for a long time. it affected my running gait a lot too!

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns 3 місяці тому

      @@mamalk2697 yes I can do a single leg heel lift fine on both. I’m just not letting it rest enough maybe with work, gym etc. hopefully that means it isn’t too far away if I can heel lift. I will miss my Vapors too mate, they are on eBay as we speak haha. Brilliant shoes but doing more harm than good. Yes, easy miles for me when I’m back and I’ve been told by physio to work on gait too so hopefully this can all help.
