    Sad to hear you’re still struggling with your injury but at least you’re doing everything you can to get back running again in the future. Having been following your progress on your channel, with MAF training, marathons and ultras etc, and being inspired by your journey, I’ve signed up to a 50k in March. Keep your chin up and you will be back soon, motivating us all again.

    I've been suffering with this injury for 18 months, it's horrid. Mine is mild now but I'm only able to run once a week or it flares up again. Collapsed arches is what I worry about going forward. I hope you get your solution very soon 🤞🏻

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns  4 місяці тому +1

      I’m sorry to hear that Shara. It really is a hard injury to get over as there’s so many causes for it, over doing it, weak or tight calves or glutes, some people just have flat feet, maybe too much pavement running! There’s so much to think about. Unfortunately, my arches seem like the damage is done so on to the next step and as you said, it’s a lengthy process 😢.
      When I come back I will 100% swap some running days with other cardio sessions to not put too much pressure on it. All the best to you and I hope it can be resolved soon for us both. Thanks

    Sorry to hear about the injury- always enjoy your videos. Good tip re monitoring the calories. Was wondering do you have a daily target you try to keep to?

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns  4 місяці тому +1

      Sorry for the delay Gavin. Yes I’m having 1950 calories a day at the moment just to get to my required weight then will keep monitoring to stay as I am which is just under 2500 a day.

    Sorry to hear about the injury. Can you walk around okay? Orthotics will help but it could take a while. I'd ask an osteopath to articulate your feet. The limited range of motion in the joints of your feet is causing the tib post tendon to struggle to invert

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns  4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks mate. I can walk around fine to be honest. Each long day at work takes its toll though and I’m finding pain is radiating to the outside of my ankle so I’m sure there’s some weakness in my feet or I’m walking funny to compensate not pronating too much. I get cramp in my feet very easy when I crunch my toes or walk bare footed so there’s some issues in my feet in general and they have very limited range of motion so I will look up foot articulation, I’ve never heard of that. Thanks for the advice

    Hope you recover soon! are you still caffeine free? (just curious after a video about it from you)

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns  4 місяці тому +1

      Thank you, it’s been a long lay-off already but I’ll get there. I’m still off the caffeine as such, I occasionally have a normal coffee if that’s all that’s available but I haven’t had enough to cause any old issues I used to have. I do enjoy decaf though, it tastes the same to me but without the symptoms.
      Thanks

    Eek that's not what you want to hear. I know you hated orthotics but I'm sure you can eventually get used to them. Good luck with it, hope to see you at RTTK next year!

    Hi Stevo, I came by to your channel as I was being anxious about a calf strain 4 weeks before my marathon. And I saw you went through the same experience few years back. Just seeing if I can get some tips from you to manage it and if you think I can still do my marathon. 💔
    as of today 3.5 weeks away, I still havent run for the last 3 days, do you mind telling me when you find yourself ready for long run? for me i have no pain on walking, but tinggling when running (on landing). Thanks in advance Stevo. Cheers, Kevin

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns  4 місяці тому

      Hey Kevin. Sorry to hear that buddy, something always pops up when you get near to marathon day!
      If I remember rightly I had a certain spot right in the centre of my calf that felt like a dead leg and it took a while. I depends on the severity of your injury I guess, if it’s just tingling now then hopefully it’s on the way to getting better and the last thing you want to do is twang it again. Stretching, icing and foam rolling didn’t help me if I remember rightly, it can just aggregate it further but I’m not experienced in getting rid of injuries really.
      Are you due your longest run this weekend? and what are your longest runs so far in this plan? I would say the bulk of the work is done and I’d be tempted to let it heal as much as it needs even if that takes you into taper weeks. Youre better off going into it very slightly less fit and pain free than it being game over after one mile with your calf pulling.
      Sorry i can’t be more help but every case is different so I’d just play it by ear and do what you can when you can.

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns  4 місяці тому

      Sorry me again, maybe if it’s still painful after the weekend, you could do some other cardio like cycling to keep your fitness up towards the race, that would give it time to heal fully and keep you sharp. I’m sure you will suss it out!

    • @nandapartners
      @nandapartners 4 місяці тому

      Thank you so much Stevo for replying. I am a solo runner, so its nice to talk to someone.
      So this is roughly my mileage for the last 4 weeks
      Week 4 - 90km (Long run 34km)
      Week 5 - 87km (Long run 30km)
      Week 6 - 81km (Long run 34 km)
      Week 7 - 60km (Long run 22km)
      Week 8 - 59km (injured on Thursday)
      Week 9 - this week
      Week 10 - next week
      Week 11 - taper week
      Week 12 - race week on sunday
      So I got injured in my week 8 where I just finished a down week, but I got carried away trying to do 12-15k a day from 10-12k a day. seems the overtraining got me.
      This week was supposed to be my biggest week to hit 34-36k but certainly wont be able to do that i think. I went to my physio who cleared me to run 5k on a Friday and if ifs good to run 10k on Sunday (Saturday rest). Today which is Wednesday, I can already do 3 set of 20 single leg calf raise and 3 set of 10 single leg hop lunges. It seems that I can run, but again don't know if Friday is too soon or too late, and dont know how should i plan my remaining weeks. Also, I don't have a coach either, I was mainly trying to run everyday (easy slow run) with long run on Sunday.
      Thanks again Stevo! for the response I cant imagine I got a response 😊. Appreciate it 🙏

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns  4 місяці тому

      Hey anytime buddy I love talking running!
      It sounds like you’ve got some really good running weeks in before your calf strain so I wouldn’t panic. What the physio said sounds like good news to me and I’d feel encouraged that I’d be fine for the marathon. I would do as they said with the 5k and 10k but if you’re worried about it flaring up then you could start next week with what you was due to do this week. Just keep in mind how you hurt it in the first place, it’s so easy to get carried away, I’ve been there too many times and am dealing with my worst injury to date from ultra training! All the best to you and please let me know how it’s going or how the marathon went! Cheers

    • @StevoRuns
      @StevoRuns  4 місяці тому

      @nandapartners and remember, like 80% of a completed marathon plan is good enough so you’re right on par to get there in good fitness. There’s always some sort of set back.
      Cheers
