Yikes that looked tough, but congratulations for finishing. All races are a learning experience 👍 keep running and making videos - I love your raw/candid style
Fair play to you for even turning up to do it, let alone push yourself through that! Got to respect that marathon distance and as you say at least be mostly prepared for it. I can't talk though, I never put myself in for races 😆
Great video - I can relate, completely undertrained at the minute and 'survived' Chester marathon a couple of weeks back (with a new PW! 😂) Snowdonia marathon this weekend - all about the finish line and not the finish time 🏃 Hopefully catch you at Race to the King next year 💪👍
Cheers buddy. Man it’s so hard when you’ve struggled to get the training in. That’s made my legs ache even reading that 😂 I’ve run up and down snowdon only a 7 mile round trip and that was tough enough haha. All the best for it though, just battle through it. The sights will be sweet if it ain’t too cloudy up there. See you at RTTK 👍🏼
Some amazing nuggets of knowledge you've come up with there mate 😅 Never run a marathon unprepared...okay... don't do two hard races in a week... woah... you should write this stuff down lol. Hope your recovery goes well 👍🏻 Taking the positives, your muscles survived and you had a great mental test which you passed with flying colours.
Hey you learn something new every day! Or did all runners know these obvious facts already… apart from me? 😂. Thanks though mate, yes I’ll take that positive from it 👍🏼
😂 Yes I know mate, it weren’t a serious reply. it’s funny now I’ve seen it back. I think I knew it weren’t gonna end well but just went with it anyway, plus I weren’t losing that £54 for nothing! Cheers mate 🙂
Great job on getting it done, just catching up with videos, marathons are hard but you did well and that time is nothing to be sniffed at its a good time! Totally agree on dont do a marathon wothout being fully trained i did my first on no training and fuelled by just jelly babies..... it took over 7 hours and i was in a world of pain 🤣 still well done, hopefully see you next year? Im hoping to doing abingdon next year if all goes well with baby, had to pull out this year due to expecting in march!
Hey, thank you! Yes now the dust has settled I think I’ll do Abingdon again next year so hopefully see you at the start and finish line. Hopefully we can both be prepared for it this time 😂. All the best with the baby
Great effort mate and nice to meet you beforehand. This was my third marathon and the wheels have fallen off at 16, 19 and 21 miles respectively but it's all part of the journey. Could have done without the walk back to the car after 😂
Hey mate, yes it was great to meet you. Mine didn’t go to plan at all but it’s all good. How did yours turn out? Did you hit the 3 hour mark? 5 miles is still a way to go once you’ve started to struggle isn’t it 😂. You’ve done great so far 👍🏼
Not quite, got to halfway in 1:27 which was probably a touch quick and finished 3:14:34 in the end, quite a bit of walking. Still a PB but already thinking about the next one, possibly Brighton.
@bigslittlecarrott brilliant effort mate and a great PB! You seem to get further and further into it before you crash so you’ll nail it at Brighton I’m sure. All the best and I might see you around
Hi Steve, I ran in this race too. Got a pb of 3.02 but the last 3 miles was tough. Good job of pushing on. Heart rate is weird after a race, my resting HR and HRV has only gone back to normal this week after the marathon
Hi Alan, 3.02 is just superb mate, well done! I really wish I was in good condition for Abingdon but it was not the case but I’ll hopefully be back next year and be sensible with race schedule this time haha. It sure does take some getting over after doesn’t it! All the best. Might see you next time
@StevoRuns seems like you weren't in a good place before it started mate and still recovering. Take it easy and hopefully you'll be fully recovered soon. Definitely helps to stick to a plan 👍
Hi Steve, regarding heart-rate, illness etc etc, are you monitoring HRV at all? I've found in the past that when I've had a particularly stressful week, sleep is compromised, perhaps mild illness, it usually shows up in my HRV trends. Worth taking a look at, to see if there's any correlation with your injuries, heart rate issues. It's not a magic bullet, but maybe helpful for piecing together everything.
Hello mate, i do generally track my HRV but only really on my Garmin. It was pretty well balanced before Oxford half last week but still went right up there again. My heart rate just seems this way at all race day events. I’m wondering if my zones are set wrong although I’ve been going off a lab test result from last year. I just don’t want to put myself in danger although I feel fine doing it at the time. I may just go by feel in the future and turn the HR off? Not sure what to do really. Thanks
Haha, it’s funny to watch it back to be honest. Training went bad because of injury that started to feel better a few weeks before these races. I did Oxford a week before and was still tired from that, making Abingdon marathon completely miserable haha. Cheers
Amazing effort considering the build up and the injuries!! Give yourself plenty of time to rest now then you'll come back stronger. Just realised how much you look like the footballer Diogo Jota 😂
Yikes I can feel your pain coming through the screen. I’ve been there plenty of times, albeit half’s rather than full marathons where I’ve just not been fit enough and suffered
Hi Andrew, yes I think so too. I’ve been going off the lab results from 18 months ago but my heart went higher than the labs last week. Karvonen formula puts me at 183-197 for zone 5. 185bpm threshold on Garmin puts me at 192> for zone 5. It’s hard to know what to follow. Im probably going to go by feel a bit more to combat the variables.
In my opinion marathon is much more complicated and harder than 65km or 80km trail race. The movement is very repetitive and in constant pace which makes it extremely hard both on body and mind. Respect for the effort, but not for the desicion to run the marathon 😂 Don't be marathon junkie, take your time to recover and come back stronger and faster. All the best 🍻
Don’t be a marathon junkie 😂 love that! Yes I’m thinking the same with the 100k, plenty of walking with the hills, keep the legs as fresh as I can. I can’t wait for that to be honest! Cheers mate
Yikes that looked tough, but congratulations for finishing. All races are a learning experience 👍 keep running and making videos - I love your raw/candid style
Cheers Ashley, I dread to think what the 100k videos gonna be like 😂 can’t wait.
@@StevoRuns stock up on spare batteries and SD cards!
Good shout! I’ll have to update every 20k, nobody wants to watch a full film haha.
Well done for finishing. Good to hear you've got the lessons: complete the training + last race at least a month beforehand = respect the distance.
Thank you, Henry. And yes I’ll be following that logic for the rest of my running journey, for sure.
Fair play to you for even turning up to do it, let alone push yourself through that! Got to respect that marathon distance and as you say at least be mostly prepared for it. I can't talk though, I never put myself in for races 😆
You’re sensible that’s why Dom 😂. Cheers though buddy my legs are recovering quicker than last week so that’s good.
Well done Stevo you got it done! 👏👍
Thanks Ric. I’ll take some positives and lessons from it!

@@StevoRuns Haha! I'm only winding you up mate. If I only made two running related mistakes in a week I'd be doing well! 😄👍🏻
😂 Yes I know mate, it weren’t a serious reply. it’s funny now I’ve seen it back. I think I knew it weren’t gonna end well but just went with it anyway, plus I weren’t losing that £54 for nothing! Cheers mate 🙂

This was kind of fun to watch, sorry. How much did you actually train up to this?

Cheers Chris! Yeah i can see that haha, I wish I had his ability and I wouldn’t have to mess about with this stupid running malarkey 😂
Yikes I can feel your pain coming through the screen. I’ve been there plenty of times, albeit half’s rather than full marathons where I’ve just not been fit enough and suffered
It was the worst, Billy! I’m not sure why we keep going back but there we go, haha. Keep it up mate
maybe you need to recalculate you HR zones?
Hi Andrew, yes I think so too. I’ve been going off the lab results from 18 months ago but my heart went higher than the labs last week.
