Mark said one of the inspiration for the album was The clash (that I loveeee) and them hearing The holy Shangri-la I can't stop to hear that the bass line it's similar, I think they got the inspiration from this song! One of my favourites of The clash and The holy Shangri-la it's my favourite of this album for now ❤️ I love this inspiration and I wanted to know if anyone hears it too or am I crazy? Haha

I certainly like it more than the last decade of albums. My complaint is just the mixing and production. I've heard songs from Cyr, Shiny, and Monuments live and they absolutely ripped. None of those passionless (imo) super dry consonant-swallowing vocals. He sang the way he did on the early albums, with excitement and edge. The music had way more energy, etc. I'm certain that AMM is going to go absolutely bonkers live. I just wish he would go back to playing these songs as a band in the studio and just letting the tape run, I believe that was a lot of the magic. Yes, I know he called himself Svengali and would re-record everything, but my man needs to get away from using pro-tools as an instrument, and get a producer or *someone* that will tell him "no" in the studio. He's so damned talented and I wish it was more apparent on the albums.

I have been fan since Gish but for me Adore is the last true Smahing Pumpkins record. After that the quality went down and it seems that Billy lost interest in composing great rock songs. This new album is back to early days but sadly it lack a bit of those nuances that made Gish, Siamese Dream and MCIS so great. But as it is Aghori is still quite good. One thing i noticed right away was production and vocals were not at the top like in Atum. Later had also some moments that i thought "Old SP is Back!" but overall the quality wasnt that great. But i enjoy listening Atum and even more this new album so all is good. I kind wished that SP would have developed the Adore style even more in later albums since i thought it had a lot of potential. Many of my non-SP liking friends liked songs from Adore. What if... Billy had gone in that direction with composing and maybe new electronic music partners?

    • @thebeatsessions8294

I really thought this was going to an optimistic return to form but the vocals and lyrics are so thin and lacklustre plus the production is just not complementary to the music and it fades into nothingness in the end....Could of been another 5 song EP. Billy needs a producer especially around jimmy's drums and the guitar tones, Its not warm at all and even on a good system it feels poorly executed in many ways. I hate to say it but ATUM could of been a single album and is better than this. We don't need GUITAR HEAVY album but better constructed melodies and song writing.

It takes me a little time to get into a new SP record but i know that i will. Billy knows what makes a good song, and he can get creative without going completely off the rails. What i am saying is that musically its always there for me. What i think people are liking about this album is the sonic toolkit they have used which is more guitar based and i think that is fair. They know what they are doing with these sounds and instruments and how to make it sound quality and authentic. The best stuff from the post-machina era has for me always been the guitar based songs. The electronic toolkit for me has felt limited in range, so the first song i feel its cool and interesting, then the next is kind of similar and the next i feel....oh, the whole album sounds like this. Somehow with electronica its really important to use those different sounds to get variety in the production. There is also something about the harmony he uses on the vocals in the recent past which feels the same on a lot of songs.

AMM is exactly what every SP album is before it.. a building block. SP’s sound is not complete, but still recognizable throughout their catalog. ATUM built to this, the same way SAOSB & CYR built to ATUM. Love the fact that Billy is restless in his continuity.. it shows that shit evolves, for better or worse. I personally loved ATUM, and this AMM is a fantastic and almost predictable follow up.

Watered down cyber rock. Lyrics and drums are non existent and I’m shocked.
