Welcome to the most adventurous astrophoto channel on UA-cam! Follow me out to wonderful remote dark locations near the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland.
In February, I began this UA-cam journey, and my vision is to invite you to my Arctic Astrophotography lifestyle. During the summer, there is midnight sun, so my season is restricted from September until late March. And this period also coincides with the polar winter.
The polar winter is harsh and extremely cold, but the dark skies are among the best globally, and nature is spectacular.
But most of all, this is my home, where I do this wonderful hobby!
So.. don't forget to subscribe if you want to follow my Arctic Astrophotography Adventures!

Skyoptikst Focuser for the Sky-Watcher MN190: How to change from the original focuser
The Skyoptiskt Focuser for the Sky-Watcher MN190 is specifically made by Skyoptiskt Optical Technology CO for the Sky-Watcher MN190. It replaces the original focuser, which is not the best for astrophotography. The Skyoptiskt Focuser for the Sky-Watcher MN190 is well-crafted in aluminum and comes in a nice red color. In this video, I will show you how to change the original focuser to the Skyoptiskt Focuser. I will also change the dovetail to a Losmandy style dovetail from Primalucelab, as well as add a Vixen style dovetail from Primalucelab on top of the tube for gear as guiding scope and the AWO Asiair.

In this episode, I show how to fix a damaged thread in a Sky-Watcher EQ6 R-Pro mount. The damaged thread has made it very hard to do a proper polar alignment, but it's actually very easy to fix. The Sky-Watcher EQ6 R-Pro mount is a sturdy mount but has some downsides, the threads are one. I hope this video will show you how to easily fix a damaged thread if it happens to you! 00:00 Introduction...

Andromeda Galaxy Photography: a start-up session for a new season from a new horizon. This session was about testing the gear, updating apps, and trying out the Ecoflow power solution. I also tried to shoot a mosaic which I processed in Astro Pixel Processor. During the session, I used my William Optics Fluorostar 110, ZWO ASI 1600MM, Sky-Watcher EQ6 R-Pro, and filters from Optolong.

Wow 👍
I don't know who is doing their quality control but half the bleeping threads on mine were stripped when I bought it new.
This is hardcore astrophotography ty so much
Sorry, no educational value for me
Recently had the chance to buy one of these scopes but, I passed up on it. However there maybe another available to me shortly. So, 2 years on from making this video, are you still using this telescope often?
Any update on how the new focuser is working out?
I just discovered your channel through researching the ASI 2600 mc camera and am just loving your videos! My dna all comes from Sweden and I spent many years snow camping in the Sierras. Your videos are blending all of my passions together now. Thanks for offering your channel!
dear lord....use a soft towel before placing that scope on a hard top table, be gentle...it's not your wife you know
The soundtrack is distracting and does not help
Thanks, but don't let me stop you from clicking through to another video! Just do it! 😀
Why on Earth is Skyoptiskt not exporting to Belgium? The only EU country in their no-go list! This must be a mistake. Great video, I’m strongly considering an MN190 for purchase.
Ah, when clicking on the options things got right. Did you get the 60mm or 35mm stroke version?
Very timely, just got my MN190 a couple of weeks ago and the focuser is indeed subpar.
oh man, been a while since I saw your last video, happy to have you back! Bortle 4 at home is not too bad, right? I'm battling a level 9 from here 😂 looking forward to seeing more of your arctic adventures and all the best!
Hello, did you have a chance to try the new focus and what are your impressions of it. Thanks
Stunning result! Well done on first light.
Hi great video this adapter ring is coming with the focus or have to buy. Thanks
Hi, just send a message to them and they will help you and tell what you need!
Thanks
I just ordered this for my MN190. Should arrive in a few months they say. I'm looking forward to your reviews!
Now I just wait for some clear sky! :)
Very good and interesting video! 👍🏼 Clear skies
Thanks Tully, clear skies!
Thank you for the video, I’m helping a friend who has the exact same scope and added the feather touch focus with the EAF - he is unable to find focus with the feather touch upgrade, which looks similar to the upgrade you’ve done. We saw the focal distance from the manual. And saw that the stock focuser about 14 mm longer, so we added a space or two account for that and have gone through the entire focal travel of the focus and he’s not able to focus. Unfortunately, I’m trying to help him remotely so I can’t 100% be hands-on but he has the 2600 with a filter drawer and then a spacer. According to the math, it should give him plenty to find focus within the focus travel distance of the feather touch. Any tips
I have a new 190mn. You got me interested in this new focuser. Looking forward to your review. Does this focuser come with attachments for an 2” ASI2600MC and a 1.25” planetary camera? I want to use both with this scope.
It will be very interesting to try it! And they were very helpful, so I'm sure they can help to fit your gear. I got great help to find the right ring for my ZWO filter wheel!
Great to see you again David. Look forward to more of your astrophotography adventures. Maybe some more sausage eating eh?
Have not seen you for awhile be good to see more of your excellent vids! Lots of clouds here in North Dakota, USA.
Southern Sweden has been very cloudy too, and I have been working a lot! Hope for more clear nights during the spring!
Cool video ,enjoyed watching.
Thanks for watching! :)
That’s a big, heavy scope. Hope the focuser meets your expectations. Good to see you again David and I hope you are enjoying southern Sweden! The El Niño winter here in the middle of Canada has been very mild (which is nice) but very cloudy! Dr B from Manitoba, Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks, southern Sweden is nice, but cloudy and I have been working a lot! Actually I tried to sell this tube, but no one was interested, so I decided to give it another chance with a new focuser, so we'll see how it will perform! :)
Have you had a chance to test the new focus and are you satisfied?
Good to see you back.
Thank you! Good to be back! :)
Looks like you have a SpaceX Merlin vacuum engine nozzle hanging from the ceiling! haha. Stay warm!
Haha yeah that lamp looks almost like that! :)
Looks like a great focuser. I'm going to see if they make one for my SW Quattro 150p, keep us posted on how it performs.
Yes, as soon as the sky clears I will try it! It feels really great compared to the stock focuser!
Happy New Year! I look forward to hearing about how the new focuser performs!
Happy New Year! Yes I will update about how the focuser performs, it feels so much better than the stock focuser!
@@NorthernPanorama That's great to hear! I hope you enjoy it.
Wow an astrophotography accessory that's affordable, nice focuser
Yeah, and it feels great so far! I will test it as soon as the sky clears! (it has been awful for more than two months..)
@@NorthernPanorama I have a C8, but I think my next scope might be the MN190. Does it keep collimation well?
I know someone that bought this through Aliexpress and he really pleased with it much better than the stock focuser which he said was rubbish
@@CaptRescue2 Yes I think so, I have not had any issues with collimation even in really cold temperatures. It seems to keep it well. I use to check with a laser before every session!
@@boaty1968 I can imagine, it feels so much better than the stock focuser! It will be very interesting to see how it performs!
Super cool!
Thanks Mike!
I enjoyed your video very much. Really interesting and great location. Also your milkyway images are really lovely. Do you have issues with the wind on the coast? - Beautiful final M33 David. cs
Thanks! The wind was quite weak and the spot is quite protected by sand walls so it did not disturb anything. The air was very humid however but nothing that affected the photography!
@@NorthernPanorama That's nice! I really thought that would have might affected your AP. But glad it didn't! 👍🏼
Great result and glad to see you weren't plagued with the same focuser issues as per you previous adventure.
Thanks, it was an evening when everything worked as it should!
Wow, brilliant work.
Thank you! 😀
Grym video som vanligt 🙏 och en fantastiskt fin bild💫
Tack så mycket Andreas! Det var en grymt fin kväll! Vintergatsbilden långt ifrån samma klass som dina! haha! Men ett okej försök! 😀
@@NorthernPanorama ni hade rätt mycket bättre förhållanden än vi😃 men man tar ju vad man får. Nej då. Din vintergatan va ju grym🙏
Excellent video David! I love how you perfectly captured the feeling of shooting under a dark sky. Adding the Milky Way shots along the shoreline was a great idea. If you feel like adding more time to your M33 project before beginning a new target, you might like the results from capturing an hour of Ha data and blending it lightly with the red channel. M33 responds really nicely to this type of processing. If not, you already have a great image of Triangulum!
Thanks, It's a special feeling to be out on a dark spot! And yeah, I will certainly add some Ha-data to this set! It's a great galaxy! Clear skies!
Great shots David!
Thanks, it turned out well. I'm glad that I got a really nice evening out! It made me inspired! 😀
You should get a rack and pinon type focuser for that scope and avoid these focus slipping issues.
Yes maybe! During this session everything worked though and some rack and pinion focuses (for an example, the one on the SW Exprit 100) shows issues during lower temperatures. It's a cost benefit question also, but I will look into the subject! :)
Great photo! I still have yet to attempt to combine data of different image scales. Hopefully I can get a full night of astrophotography in tomorrow night, on my one night off from work. I can't wait for this current project to end. It is causing work to interfere with my hobby!!! Hahahaha!!!
Thanks! In the next video I think I will show the results when I tried to combine the M33 data from February 22 and from this session! Around 7 hours worth of data from bortle 2 and 3! Haha I know the feeling when the work interfere! 😅 Good luck and Clear skies!
Ah, the pain of equipment not working! Glad you seem to have repaired the focusser. Clear skies David. The forest fire smoke has finally gone away here in Canada. Had my first night of Excellent seeing last night. Imaged the Helix Nebula, which is only up for about 4-5 hours for me, and on 19 degrees above the horizon. Looks like my subs turned out well though. Dr B from Manitoba, Canada 🇨🇦
Yes sometimes it feels that everything is against you! But I got revanche a couple of days after this session! Stay tuned for next episode. :) Sounds great that the forest fire smoke has gone away! A couple of weeks ago we had sand from Sahara (!) blowing in over Sweden with a lot of haziness as a result! Clear skies Dr B!
Welcome back David. Wow, that is a significant move south. I’m sure it will be a big adjustment, both in terms of finding dark skies but also being closer to more people! At least your winters will be warmer, but there is something to be said for those cold, clear northern nights and reindeer! Take care. Looking forward to your new adventures. Dr B from Manitoba, Canada 🇨🇦
Awesome video again. Really really goode to see you back again. - Soo sorry you had so much trouble with focussing/ the scope.. Clear skies!
Thanks, Tully, it was really nice to be out again! And I think I will tonight again, the forecast looks great. Now I will also bring tools! 😀Clear skies!
@@NorthernPanorama 😄 very nice! Good luck. Looking forward cs
Such a shame to have run into that issue when away from home. But nice to see you back out under the stars in remote locations.
Thanks, it was really nice to be out again! And such things happen, but irritating to have forgotten tools! 😀
r&p focusers ftw ... upgrade maybe?
Yeah maybe! Not now, but we will see if the problems persist.
Gutted, all that way and setting up. great to see you back.
haha yeah, but it was nice anyway! But next time I don't forget that tool! Thanks a lot! 😊
Great to see you outside. Doesn't seem the same without the icicles hanging from your beard lol 😂 Look forward to seeing your finished M33
Haha thanks, promise there will be some icicles hanging from my beard at some point! There will certainly be some trip to the north this winter! :)
I was gutted for you, when you needed the hex key and had forgotten to bring tools! A mistake you'll never forget, for sure, lol. The new location seems great, and I'm looking forward to many more astrophotography adventures, my friend!
Thanks a lot!! Yeah, I will not forget to bring tools in the future! When it happened, I was like "what an Idiot I am!". But I got the chance to experience the location at night and it was great! :)
@NorthernPanorama I've now been to a Bortle 2 location twice, about 2.5hrs away, and camped out while doing astrophotography, and it was a LOT of fun. It was like a little taste of your astrophotography adventures, but without your previous arctic conditions!!! I also realized it is difficult to remember everything you need, for sure!
@@d.fresh.750 So great! Sure it's fun to go out on such adventures! It gives another dimension to astrophotography I think! It's a remarkable experience to enjoy a starry night sky from a really dark location. I used to have a packing list, but with time you get confidence and sloppy (and start to forget things again). 😀
So nice to have you down here in Skåne. Would love to tag along on one of your shoots. I can be your assistant, taking care of coffee and limpmackor with prickig korv and such. Sandhammaren is an amazing place!
Thanks! You're welcome to follow out as a coffee and limpmacko-assistant! :)
Welcome back to Skåne 👍 planning to go there myself anyday.
Thanks! Maybe we meet there some evening! Maybe arrange some gathering among astrophotograpers down here some evening!
@@NorthernPanorama ...that would be great. There was actually a star party scheduled this August...but the weather gods were not in the right mood for a party.
@@thomashansson1839 Yes I was in contact with Stefan, so the plan was to go there then but, yeah, the mood of the weather goods was not there!
Great video David 👍So good to see your new adventures in Skåne 😊
Thanks! Feel good to be on it again! It's a great part of Sweden, and completely different from "home"!
And why all? Because there should always be electrical tape in the car)) It is better to always insure these focusers with a piece of electrical tape, especially when the object angle is greater than 60 °😀
Thank you! Hope your fine! Every day I follow news from Ukraine! Freedom is everything! Yeah, electrical tape and tools - will not forget them next time! It was ten months since I got out last time, but now I will store those items in my hardcase!
It’s great to see you back making videos again. Looks like you found your spot to shoot from. Bortle 3 is still very good for LRGB imaging. Can’t wait to see your finished M33!
Thanks! It feels great to do videos again! This spot was actually better than I expected so there will certainly be many trips there! There is also bortle 2 locations a bit further, both in Denmark and on Swedish island Öland, so I have plans to go there too!
