@Horiatis76 #vinylcommunity #turntable #recordcollection Many believe the turntables produced during the late 1960's through the mid-1980's were the best ever made as records were the biggest share of the market for reproducing music. Of course, many of these phased out of production with the advent of the cassette in the 1970's and the CD in the 1980's. As vinyl records quit being produced, th...

The recent announcement of the acquisition of McIntosh and Sonus Faber from The McIntosh Group sent a shockwave through the audiophile community. While I get the Top Quality to Mediocre Quality comparison, there is more to the equation than that and Bose certainly has nothing to ...

#vinylcommunity #mofi #audiophile The 1970 Classic 3rd LP from Santana "Abraxas" was the first One-Step release by MOFI. Given it's dynamics and strong initial recording, it was a no-brainer. Well, those 2,500 copies sold like hotcakes and that LP now goes for thousands on the secondary market. MOFI decided to rerelease it in 2024 on 1 LP at 33RPM using their Super Vinyl formulation for $60. Le...

Ofcourse 2025 will be better than 2024. The cost of living will go down, and people will have more discretionary money to spend. It won't be an instant change as so much damage to our economy has been done over the last 4 years.
Vintage Mio is a great little shop and Armando is a great guy with a big heart! A collectors paradise in Waco, Texas!
Great video Dave. Hope to see you travel out and about more this year.
Cool. Can’t wait to it check out the next time I’m near Waco.
Typically the result of acquisitions are a combining of sales, marketing, engineering. and other corporate functions, plant consolidations, as well as platform commonality. This track record makes it unlikely that McIntosh will be unaffected in an adverse way. The more the corporation is led by finance heads, the more likely the adverse outcome. Again, likely doesn't mean it has to happen, but the history is against a great outcome for McIntosh. "Destroyed?" No. That's hyperbole but unless there is some secret technology sauce that Bose has that was absent at McIntosh, a stellar outcome is remote for the M brand.
I don't think this is good for McIntosh
Customer Service and shipping are the two (2) areas of greatest need for improvement and unfortunately, this has historically been a weak link. I have NEVER understood why this has NEVER been adequately addressed from a business standpoint.
Jeepers David, what were you playing at, going cold for a couple of weeks like that!
Enjoyed your video! I completely agree about the need for better customer service for a lot of the companies that sell online Rhino is terrible for getting answers to questions and MoFI isn’t much better Analog Productions is great as you can call and talk to a human being Even some online record stores have automated service and they never call back CS needs improvement
Nice show as always, looking forward to watching your channel in the new year. Thanks and happy new year. Art
Vinyl prices will ultimately be the demise of Record sales the industry must take note! Also giving us non gatefold covers and cheap paper sleeves come on stop talking us for granted FFS
I never wavered in my love for vinyl (throughout all the CD era I stuck with the good old vinyl LP). I agree entirely with your statement that vinyl prices will ultimately be the demise of Record sales. I have been saying the same thing for about 2 years now and it is only getting worse. I never thought that the price of vinyl would ever be the catalyst for its demise! I now think twice about buying a particular LP because of its price! Nine times out of ten, I pass.
It's a clever, intuitive product, especially for those who hanker for the dsp. But its virtues are exaggerated in all the unbalanced reviews that encouraged me to buy it. It was outclassed by my Graham Slee phono stage - the Waxwing was closed in and lacking resolution in comparison.
I agree with you about Songs for a Nervous Planet. Just fantastic. I recall I agreed with you about your previous proclamation of The Tipping Point. Maybe I’m just as big a fan of TFF as you? Keep the videos coming.
8:51 Misspoke, should have said “what am I looking for in 2025”, not 2024 😢
I just got the 540ML and want to try this, is it a straightforward process?
Looking forward to more of your content! Merry Christmas
She's a woman is way more rocking in North America than the British version
I just got my blue album yesterday for Christmas along with Jack White's Elvis Presley Sun Records 45 of my happiness from my daughter. We were having a mail strike up here in Vancouver Canada, and we have friends just over the border in Washington state, so we had them mailed to them, and they bought them over the border to my daughter. She does that here and there anyway because they charge an arm and a leg to mail them to Canada. I wish that they had paper glued on cardboard like the original covers. Also in the future maybe people will rave about the fact that we are getting French imports for this album, like they did in the past. I wonder if the box sets are also pressed in France
Lets not forget here that the original recordings weee recorded and mixed in mono and then George martin remixed and released them in stereo so in the spirit of the true originality of the recordings must not be taken for granted here when they get dis-credited as a fold down stereo is kind of insult to injury commentary to the true thing and how the recording have evolved…imho i so like the MFSL Lps the best of all time
Bose has economic power. And exceptional headphones. But it no longer has invention in terms of amplification. And Sonus Faber woofers are excellent. So Bose will raise its level in the field of amplification and better speakers. Bose for its part will give its expertise in headphones and noise reduction. In short, we will see some good things in my opinion
You would very much enjoy adding the ‘King’ to this comparison. I personally have an OG (US Indianapolis), 1982 MoFi, 2018 MoFi and am fortunate enough to have a NM Nimbus Supercut. Any comparison without the Nimbus is, in my opinion, just jockeying for second place.
Bose is shit and that is it. They are nothing but marketing and that is it. If somebody says anything against them they will sue you. Total complete crap. They are nothing but a marketing company. F you Bose and anything you touch. Shit.
I own Bose 501 (that are like 601 for smaller rooms since they have only 1 woofer and 2 tweeters rather than 2 woofers and 4 tweeters like 601) and they sound better than MANY other speakers I've tried included expensive ones.
59 pounds for a tiny bit of aluminum. What a scam. 🤣That's like saying "When you shave in the downstairs bathroom, you're getting a closer shave, than if you're shaving in upstairs bathroom.
i ordered the new sonus faber sonetto g2 speakers just after i heard of the bose staff i almoust cancelled lol im not happy with the bose thing hated always bose
My Bose 501 spit on the face of Sonetto and I'm also Italian !
I did a comparison with my original mono copy and it sounds cleaner and louder, but the EQ is about the same.
I own the Piros original and a Japanese first pressing - the surface on the Japanese was profoundly quieter than the domestic release. That quietly cut "over the rainbow" tag is clear and vivid on the Japanese press. Both these records were purchased sealed and new. I can only imagine the Bellman is pressed as quietly as the Jpn based on your description.
At the end of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" a-capella, you should hear someone say "okay". It's on the Piros original, it's not on the Barry Diament cd. Anyone know if it's on the 45?
Sorry but you lost me in this Video when you said Sonos. You should have done some more research before putting this out there. Sonus Faber is as well known in the audiophile community as McIntosh is, so I was really thrown back when you kept referring to it as Sonos.
You nailed it in the title: "lipstick on a pig". This can look nice, feel nice in your hand and be well mastered. BUT the tapes are shit. Compressed, missing frequencies, songs with added echo.
@@thomosburn8740 I think people are nostalgic and I get that 100% and it was the best we had in the US the time, but we now realize how much Capitol abused what they had….
Got to say this is an awesome 👍 product . I have had it for about a month now and I'm completely amazed how it sounds. So many settings through Bluetooth making it easy to setup. Highly recommended.
Bose has long been a "lifestyle" audio company - offering products with unusual form-factors and designs (often at elevated prices) that appeal to people wanting a modern, artful aesthetic. It was never as much about the sound - as it was the visual appeal. McIntosh, on the other hand, while promoting their own aesthetic, is top-tier audio. McIntosh gear has weight, a fantastic build quality, great specs and sound quality. And when cared for, McIntosh products just last nearly forever- longer than almost all other audio products. I just don't see anything here but a clash big of cultures - and I think the McIntosh brand will suffer because of it. Hopefully, I'm wrong about that. My MA6900 integrated purchased more that 20 years ago still looks new - and plays perfectly. Only thing I ever did to it was change out the lamps.
Mo-Fi is hit or miss for sure. $30 is plenty to pay for any record, IMO.
Sonos? It’s Sonus Faber that was bought by Bose. Sonos is another company.
@@forbeginnersandbeyond6089 thank you - yes, I realized this possible confusion without my fully stating the “faber” and pipped a comment to clarify/correct.
A very common sense view of this topic. Many here may or may not remember that McIntosh was aquired by Clarion in the early 90s. At the time, it was stated that one of the main reasons for the purchase was to incorporate McIntosh amplifier technology into Clarions automotive sound systems, which was their core business. Clarion being a smart company let McIntosh be McIntosh and the company enjoyed a Renaissance of sorts during those years! McIntosh is still here but you dont hear of Clarion much these days. Bose is also s mart company and I suspect they will let McIntosh do what they do best and at the same time both companys will share each others technologys to make their products better!
I will kepp the mono version is better than stereo anyway that's my thought thank you
Now we can get nice plastic sonus faber pc speakers with integrated blue led mac amp for $119.95!
Ouch!
So good to have another in the business of vintage restoration for these beautiful turntables to go around. And it's enjoyable his inventory is constantly changing necessitating another look down the road for something of interest. I myself at an early age once had a Dual 1019 which I recall was branded United Audio on the wooden base and would love to have another.
Restored a Kenwood KD-2070 from 1978 plays beautifully now just missing the dust cover
I have one extra 2070 cover on hand. Are you interested in buying it? Reach out to me from my site.
Heart arrived today - musically and sonically exceptional - thanks for the info on Jerome and the trio.
Love vintage turntables. My current in-use TT is an AR (belt drive) from 1984, but I also have a Sota Star II (vacuum model) from '84 that needs a little work, a few Denon direct drives (DP-1200, DP-57L, DP-35F) in mint condition, and a Dual Golden 1 from 1990. I was an 'early adopter' of the CD format (I still have my first player, a Marantz CD-73), but never lost having a thing for turntables.
Sure it's a deal. For Bose.
Why else would they buy it? Same time this was happening, they sold their pro line to anther company. They also outsourced their warehousing to DHL. Yes, DHL the shipping company.
@66skate my goodness. It's worse than I thought.
I agree with you on the sound of these new releases, I think there’s too much compression and the bass is too booming. I bought the Hard Days Night album because it’s suppose to have the true mono mixes. I found the bass to be way over the top, I can hardly hear the bongos on the title track. I too got tired of it by the end of the side, ear fatigue. I’m glad I only bought just the one album. My original pressings are much better. Is Hot press another description for compression nowadays? Loudness Wars?
I just got my blue vinyl version at Target, too. It took me awhile to find it - I had to flip through the entire record section! I gave up at first but then I tried one more time and finally found one between a batch of some other albums. I think it was the only one left. It was like I struck gold when I saw it! For a moment I felt like I was a kid again buying Beatles records. Haven't opened it yet because the dog is going to give it to me for Christmas!😉
I have had a Dual CS-506 for maybe 40 years, but it has been in storage for years also. These are belt-driven turntables and not only is the platter belt-driven but it also uses a belt for the pitch control. Well, that belt broke and I couldn't find a replacement, so that's when it went into storage. On any belt-driven turntable, if you don't have working pitch control, that makes it useless. There were some idiosyncrasies it had which I didn't like. The way it mounts the cartridge is unfortunate. I used that part off of mine to repair a friend's Dual changer. I know that I can get a replacement, but I haven't got one. Another thing I didn't like was, as this had auto-lift at the end of the record, the mechanism would make a clicking sound, starting near the end of a record, which could be heard through the sound system. As I do alot of digitizing records, this just wouldn't do. It could probably be addressed, but it is in storage.
@@automatedelectronics6062 Duals are very idiosyncratic
great video David. neat stuff 👍👍
