This is my 9th AP 75 issue and it is the first that I am not wholly convinced about. Compared to my early (but not first) UK pressing there is undoubtedly more body and punch with an altogether fuller soundstage. Where I am less enthused is in the upper frequencies which, to my ears, sound a little harsh. Indeed on my first play of the album I had the letters CD spinning in my head............................clearly there is no digitisation involved in this 1975 recording but it appeared to be creating the same fatigue for me.

Very detailed review and comparison. The challenge with the OG is finding a clean copy. The AP release was solid and checked this one off the list for me. Thanks for putting this together.

Please make sure to include the Miles Showell 45rpm issue in your Kick shootout mentioned at the end of the video. Lots of debate in the vinyl community regarding which sounds better, the Abbey Road 45 or the new Ryan Smith/Sterling Sound AP 45.

@@michaeltrochalakis6526 honestly don’t have the Abbey Road to compare at this point, maybe a viewer will provide one to borrow :)

Do You thing the difference in sound is the new vinyl just being more quiet against a little bit noisier old vinyl? Thanks, Awesome Video!!!

We are about the same age as I graduated high school in 74 Did you scan the dead wax when you took a record home for the matrix number and where it was pressed and who mastered the recording?? The VC has gone a little over board on this in my opinion Rebuying the album over and over for very little differences is great if you want but it’s going down a rabbit hole looking for the ultimate version!!

David, when switching "on the fly" between your 2 turntables, how do you compensate for the difference in volume between them? The odds of the 2 different pressings being level matched are next to zero.

Great question! I have a line feed potentiometer in the before phono stage which allows me to get to a volume match which I validate through a db meter.
