Armey Rifle Identifies as a Deer Rifle, hehehehe
First time going. Not really sure what to expect. I actually got invited today on one of the fb turkey hunting groups. Bringing my 13yo son who is interested in all things hunting and fishing and has no use for video games. I introduced him to hunting last fall (of '24), he killed his first deer in December, and he's got the fever bad! lol It'll be a good long road trip for us, and I have high hopes for a great event! the struggle has been real hunting public land, but we are on a quest to bag one of each species and fill up on memories!
sounds good, see you there
Better to have it and not need it then having to need it and not have it 😂
You Bet! I sure don't want to get caught without. Thanks for watching.
Doe in estrous for boots, or fox pee cover. I will I was tracked by a yote one spring in Sopchoppy
Awesome, I try it more, thanks for watching.
Every season, “ seem sealer” on every stitch.
thanks for the tip.
I had the same problem with Rocky boots. I got some Barge cement off Amazon, it's supposed to be for gluing soles on shoes. It worked realy good on th boots and any other shoe that the sole come odf of. Also I used Camp Dry to spray the uppers. It smells to but not real bad. Hope this helps someone else
Thanks for the tip, I will try that out.
Boy i miss fishing lake fay
Lake Fay, I'll look it up......

@peterupdikeswildtreasures4055 it's a private lake now
I have never come across any boot with a zipper that is actually water proof
Yea, seems like it might be abit of a gimic in the long term, worked at first.
Go buy some good boots i.e. Russell Moccasin.
Russell Moccasins have been bought out and are no longer making snake boots
Will do Thanks for the tip
Try Shoe Goo next time bud. Will glue the sole back on and remains flexible.
It seemed to flex fine.
Someone definitely likes to walk A LOT!😂😂😂😂😂
indeed I do, thanks for watching
What type of stand do you use ? Ladder stand? Hang on stand?
Summit climbing stand, I pack it in on my back each hunt.........
Spring Gobbler season is coming. I hope to see you at the Wild Turkey Extravaganza in Webster Fl. Feb.1 2025
I looked them up model 7 vs the model 600 mohawk it said the model 7 was lighter and shorter barrel....but my sons model 600 mohawk has a very short barrel but gun is heavy for being so short actually more heavy than my model 700...
Thanks for sharing the rifle...one of my dads friend gifted my son a remington model 600 mohawk .243 he is 6 years old you met him last year at the Turkey Extravaganza....yiu gifted him one of your deer track molds he keeps it in his room...but the two rifles look very similar....I have never heard of a model 7? Thanks again for sharing
I kinda lost track of time, I bought that rifle 30 years ago,
Great event! Always look forward to it every year. 👍🏻
I hope to see you there
Hope to see you there Mr. Updike
Agree, I wanna meet this man one day.
@ I'll be there
Hope to see you
Do you have any idea on where I can find the exact layout of Ocala Forest, as in like the sections of it? I've just started to get into hunting and its been hard for me to find a good map with a layout of all the sections. Thanks and amazing video
not sure if you can still buy paper maps bun on the National forest web sight there's a map of sections and pages that only show use roads and boundery lines. so far it the best I have found.
Deer season was rough this year I didn’t see as many deer this year as I have in seasons past will also be the first year I didn’t harvest a deer seems like we are getting more and more crowded every year but all we can do is keep hunting and hope for the opportunity to present itself
Not nearly as bad as when I was a teenager, but still I get your point. Keep looking for new spots, they are out there waiting to be discovered. Good luck.
Sure bet it’s night time activity! I get that all the time. Keep on keepin on brother!!!
You're right, but you never know....
That was a highway about 7-8 minutes in!
Indeed it is, I love seeing it too.
I hunt in Ocala two times the first time was on the Arches season the second time was the general g season and I was very disappointed because was dog every were I going and was a desastre because we can see anything because the dogs hunting from the entrance to hw 40 and we camped and spending 4 Looking for a place to hunt were is not dogs impossible please let me know were to single hunt from the tree stand like you did thank you
If you don't want to hunt where they run dogs, you would be better off going well north of Hwy 40 and east of forest road 88 (gun range road) - better yet, the Lake Delancey unit would be your best bet since it is the northern most section of the forest. But don't be surprised if a dog happens to meander thru...... I hunted the north section of the Hopkins Prairie area (Salt Springs) for years - no real issue with dogs. I don't mind the dog hunt area - they keep the deer moving.
I like forest road 33 going north, you can hunt the west side if the road, the east side is closed to hunting. Lots of room, no dog hunters.....
Thanks for the help
I spent many hours in the Lake Delancy unit this season and I had seen maybe one or two dogs. Hunting Lake Delancy was nice but man was it hard. Really thick brush everywhere and lots of bears with cubs in that area.
Thanks for the tips.
you bet, good luck
Grow roots on your a$$ 😆 🤣 😂
Is that gun a remington model 600? I have one reason I ask looks very similar
show you the gun on next video
I have already started scouting for 25/26 season. Thanks for sharing your hunt!
Good luck, maybe I'll see ya out there
I can't wait for next season, man! I just can't get enough of this outdoor adventure.........
Saw a bear crossin' the road here a while back when I hit the woods during archery season after doing some target shooting @ the range there - it was my first time to see a wild bear...
it's a real thrill seeing on from your stand.......
Considering purchasing a buggy for gear and potential harvest. How do you go about concealing your buggy while in the stand?
I really don't worry to much about it, sometimes I lock it up on the trail with a cable or it's under the tree I'm hunting out of. I've never had a issue.....
Peter, what’s your tips for finding spring turkeys in the pipeline unit?
get on them long clay roads and look for gobbler tracks, cover as much area as you can, and never ever call to a bird before the hunt.
I miss Ocala i been thinking to get back out there one day but i hunt the swamp it's only about 25 minutes from my house Ocala is probably now a days traffic hour and a half away but i always hunted north of 40
I always hunt as close to home as posable, I'd rather hunt than drive.
Thank you so much for these tips! All were/are very helpful and useful to me, much appreciated!
you bet, I really enjoy bringing the information , thanks for watching
I am the guy that commented about the lack of climbable trees. Really enjoy your videos. So much so that I just got back into hunting two weeks ago after retiring here in Florida 6 years ago. That is why I only had 2 hunts under my belt. Went again today small game hunting and picked 2 areas to scout. One was incredibly thick full of scrub oaks, palmettos, and 10 foot high scrubs. The other location has a lot of potential. I found some good spots but have to figure a way around a ladder stand set up just off the trail in. I'll be going back to scout other areas quite a bit in the next few months b4 it warms up. Fortunately I am exempt from permits other than those with no exceptions so I have access. Appreciate the tip in this video. Prior, I would shy away from those pencil thin pine stands. Now I am going to go in and try to find a climbable tree.
so the good side of 65, yea I'm going to be on that side of 65 in Aug. so i'm excited about the possibilties that come with the exemptions. Good luck, keep me posted......
I love the Ocala Forest. So sorry the season there is over, but now on to the Green Swamp......
Another great video, thanks brother. God Bless
Appreciate you, brother.
I went to SW GA on the 26th and got hammered by that front, but it was nice afterwards. Unfortunately noting was moving...
It happens, the weather changes fast in the South.
Hunted Pipeline area twice this year. Very thick woods and hard to find a pine tree I can climb. Too thin. Looking at Google Earth and using the sliding year scale, it reveals that just about every section gets clearcutted within a 25 year period. Makes for good deer habitat but tough hunting. Not complaining though. I am blessed. I will spend some time out there during small game season looking for areas that are slightly more open with trees mature enough to safely climb. Got to be out there somewhere.
Good Idea, I'll address the subject on the next video, I hope it helps.......
Trying to learn the pipeline unit myself, I had the deer permit and nothing like getting stuck in muddy water on a cold morning. My son & I have a turkey permit and it seems like a lot more scouting
Sometimes the best hunts are with no harvest!
Some times, but I'll keep going in hopes of a little more. Thanks for the insperation and support.
Hi Peter, This spring will be my Son and I’s first spring Turkey hunt in the ONF. We drew tags for the pipeline unit. Any recommendations of what habitat to start scouting first? We currently plan to hunt the area of 42.
There are birds behind Lake Dore off 42, also near the cemetary. truthfully there are birds scartered all over that area, the challenge will come calling them in. Tough birds to hunt. take it slow, you'll hear gobbles, scout early and find several places to set up, and call only after your in a good spot and can sit for an extened amount of time. Good luck, hope this helps....
Thank you
Thanks for watching.
First time going to Green Swamp on the 4th for Deer. East due to West being only specialty hunts from what im told. Any hints on good locations there?
Pick a spot them expand your hunt from there. Lifetime of learning required. Good luck
I had the hunt back late October early November - wasn't as good as I've experienced in the past. As of that hunt only 3 deer were checked out. One was a whopper 8 point. Saw lots of coyotes! Nothing checked out by the 3rd day afternoon...... ☹
Yea, I saw fewer deer then in the past too.
Public land hunting in Florida is probably the most challenging in America, mainly because of hunting pressure. It's even worse during spring gobbler season, when guys are walking around, getting in each other's way and rushing toward any bird who dares to make a sound. I'm glad you're sharing the reality of hunting Florida's WMA's. I'm gonna buy extra lottery tickets in the hope that someday I can afford to hunt private land before I pass away.
Yea, I like week days for hunting, I love the lonesome feel of the woods. Hard to find, but it's out there.
Ran into that alot in Rocksprings we always marked our spots but sometimes it didn't matter but thats the way it goes sometimes unfortunately
Got to give space where space is needed. Plenty of room just so few spots.
Big shot by buck shot most comfortable climber made you can set either way facing tree or back to tree Im a big guy and you can sit all day on them check them out theybare pricey but worth the money ive have mone for over 20 years
Thanks I'll check it out.
My sentiments as well. Hunt safe and have a Merry Christmas!
Thanks for watching
Thanks Peter, nothing easy out there. We both know it. Just like you said, get to know your local wma.
I'm still working on it. Little by little......
Like you said Peter I don’t think you could have picked a better spot! Nice footage of the armadillo and beautiful Florida woods. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Thanks for the videos!! Jay
Thanks a bunch. Merry Christmas........
Hopefully richloam will be better for you. I have a camp ground on baylake camp . Normally I get a hog or deer. Even with dogs running around.
Thanks, I'll be scouting that area soon.
That’s insane. I can’t claim spots! Those guys should have let u have it. That’s why those special op hunts are wild.
Indeed they are, I really enjoy big areas, a place I can get lost and see no people.
Damn. 4 in one side? I wouldn’t even waste my time unless I had camera pics of some already. Good luck.
Yea, I know what you mean, but they are there, maybe just a few. Good luck out there.
