Just found your video. Wii did have some nice exclusive gems, but they were buried beneath all the shovelware. Xenoblade originally released in Gamestop new at the standard MSRP and quickly increased in value when the game went out of print. It was at this point that this game started appearing in distros to every store. You could tell they were brand new with the shrinkwrap removed, so they could sell it at the inflated secondary market price instead of MSRP. Even as an employee I knew it was a really scummy move. I have the original Wii game sealed, but the value has gone down significantly because of the rereleaee on Wii and the port to Switch. But now Xenoblade Chronicles X on WiiU is the rare game 😂

$500 was expensive at the time it came out but a bargain nowadays. Wish I bought it when it launched but I was a college student and was focused on other things lol.

Id say the best way to describe the 7th gen is that it's a very love it or hate it generation. Everything postive about that gen can equally be seen as negative.

I just bought rex for 500 dollars and ray for only 380. What a freaking steal. I did it on a Japanese proxy site I use often and they both had damaged leg joints that I can glue back just fine. They are going to be display pieces anyways. But getting both for under 1000 dollars in todays market is just near impossible.

I don't know if it's cheating but for me it has to be the seventh generation IF you consider that many of the best sixth generation games were remastered/rereleased on the seventh generation

I started with 0 because a friend wouldn't shut up about Majima XD Then I went in chronological order, then Dead Souls, both Judgments, then LAD, then Ishin came out finally, and now I just go for everything as they are released. Playing 0 before Kiwami really paid off because you get so much background for Nishiki. Hoping 3 will get Kiwami'd someday. More fluid combat and a bit of extra story (perhaps based on what we have in online) could really push it to the next level.

Going to have to argue against the PSP version of FF1. It was built upon the easy mode of the PS1 release. The PS1 version is kind of the best, seeing as it has the original difficulty and magic system, but with most of the bugs fixed.

Does he come with a stand? Does he have a oeg hole in his backpack or under his backpack (as in, does his backpack come off?) to plug in a peg? I want to use the RIO:bone cape with this version if at all possible.

PC was better than both. Hell, my PowerMac 6100 with an ATI rage was superior. Just look -- the N64 was better than the PS1. And like a year after the N64 came out, UltraHLE emulator came out, which ran on a rather low spec machine (P2 233mhz, 32 meg ram).

Super happy to see you give Xenoblade a try. Easily one of the best "modern" Nintendo games and JRPGs. Personally, Mario Wonder is my GOTY. Just loved that to pieces. Pikmin 4 being a close second.

Thank you very much Mike, its true all of the handhelds ever released the PSP truly was ahead of its time. I dont really even care about the Steam deck, this handheld was released on a time when developers truly cared, also i love your video because it truly lightens what games a PSP owner should look for. Its a great insight for what games gamers should look for. I myself have bought 10 games. But after JB-ing it the PSP truly showed its full potential. I used to think the GBA was the best handheld but the PSP simply is the best handheld ever created. Thank you for this insight of video. All hail the PSP!!!

Yo Mike, did you ever end up getting that PS4 Steelbook case for FFX/FFX-2 I told you about? You mentioned being interested like a year ago, just wanted to know if you ended up getting it lol. Also, XVI is AMAZING. The story is insanely good. Yeah, battle system is completely different. But the STORY.

It might seem too soon to be saying this, but I think the PS4/Switch is the best combo in gaming history. When the dust settles, a lot more poeple will be looking at the 8th gen as the best of all time.

I have a pretty unfavorable opinion on the souls series Demons Souls (ps3) and dark souls 1 are some of my favorite games ever made dark souls 2 as long as its the original game i love, the xbox one/ps4 scholar version i despise never really played bloodborne ds3 is also despise, i think its just an outright lazy and terrible game that isnt worth playing and completely forgets what made the first 2 games so good and finally elden ring is alright ig, it has all the stuff in ds3 i hate but its more bearable also demons souls ps5 is bad and completely misses everything that made the original stand out atmospherically. so yeah :/

You can’t forget all the weird experimental games such as Patapon, Loco Roco, Crush, and Half-Minute Hero. The psp is very recent to my collection but it’s definitely my favorite handheld system despite this, i just love how unique it is.

Got mine today, i'm on a scouting mission to see if anybody is experiencing issues. *You CAN pull the handle of the swords from the sheath/scabbard (at least for the big one for sure, i didn't try on the other one yet but the official picture show it empty so i guess it's possible). There's no blade but you can display the empty sheath at the waist while the sword is used.

Great video and discussion piece Mike! I have begun to enjoy the 6th Gen much more as time has gone on. Back then, I only had the PS2 and played it here and there. I remember seeing a friend get the Dreamcast and was blown away. I was turned off by the Xbox because we had a friend that would always force Halo and Halo 2 on us back in the day and I never cared to get a Gamecube. Collecting these systems and playing them years later, I realized how much I missed out on. I was born in 1984 so I was 14 when the Dreamcast came out and so my mind and priorities had changed at the time. My personal favorite Gen has to be the 5th Gen. For me it had everything. It was the Pinnacle of 2D with what you got on the Sega Saturn and even some PS1 games. You got a good amount of 3D. Some were crude and bad but there were alot that were done really well. What I liked about this 3D, is that it still required me to use my imagination. That disappeared completely for me during the 6th gen. If I wanted great Coop, I went to the N64 for so many classic Multiplayer games. My favorite Genre are Rpgs and between the PS1 and Sega Saturn, this was the Golden era for me for this. This era still had so many diverse types of games too. Arcade style games, beat em ups, FPS, Action games, platformers, racers, sports, puzzle, just everything. Even the 3DO had some neat PC ports that were never ported anywhere. It has a port of Alone in the Dark. It had the best version of Wolfenstein 3D. It had great versions of Samurai Shodown and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. Even the Atari Jaguar had some gems such as the birth of Rayman. It had the Best port of Doom when it was out. It had some unique atari titles, and enjoyed Alien Vs Predator. That blew me away back then. Castlevania Sotn was incredible on PS1, playing 10 player Saturn Bomberman is experience I can’t ever forget. Getting my first taste of online with the Saturn Netlink. I also want to mention this was my favorite era of PC game releases. The original Baldur’s Gate, Warcraft 2 Tides of Darkness/Beyond the Dark Portal, and omg, the original Diablo and Hellfire expansion. There are so many more but for me this era had everything. I had so much fun with each system and would take this era over any other. It has my top 3 favorite games of all time as well. Lunar 1, Lunar 2, and Final Fantasy Tactics. I loved playing Lunar 1 and 2 on PS1 and later imported the Saturn versions to play them again with the small differences on those versions.

I respect all generations but to me it’s an easy answer for the greatest generation and it’s the 6th Gen. The second is 4th Gen. 4th perfected their style of games, the 5th ushered 3d games and ambitious visions and the 6th achieved the golden age and accomplished everything great and unique about video games. The way people look back at these consoles and the games they produced are they way film fans look back at the New Hollywood era of cinema. It is the ultimate sweet spot. In retrospect, the seventh generation may be considered by many the last great generation in gaming. To me feels like the end of an era of how gaming was perceived by the masses to the major shift we’re in today. The jump to Hd graphics, the online and social connectivity, multimedia devices. The heavyweight console war between the PS3 and 360 is something we may not see the likes of again. Not particularly the games, but the uniqueness and versatility of the Wii has held up. The introduction of patches and updates, micro transactions, battle passes and overall monetization becoming common place was unavoidable unfortunately. The 8th I don’t have much to say about. I liked it, some really wonderful titles. And with the current Gen well I have not upgraded to the new hardware and still have no desire to. Nevertheless, the fact that 2023 is one of the best years in gaming is good to hear and going through what was put out I think it will hold up with some of the greats.

My GOTY is Zelda TotK (I put 180 hours and every minute felt good) but I played lots of games worth mention, some released this year, some not. Mario Wonder, Pikmin 4, Metroid Prime, Signalis, Abzu, The Touryst, Pokemon Violet, Kirby’s Return to Dreamland… god! So many. Truly amazing year.🎉

Great video Mike. I just watched this one and your best console generation one. I played through a bunch of games this year. Started off with some from software games: Shadow Tower, Eternal Ring, replaying dark souls 2, and i beat armored core 6 3+ times haha. Platinumed Like a Dragon Gaiden and really enjoyed it. I loved FFXVI i beat it back to back lol. But i understand its criticisms. Ff7 is my favorite and really enjoy a lot of squares early projects but ff16 i PERSONALLY thought was better then ffxv (which i liked but only played the game with no dlc, felt a bit unfinished but im just happy we even got the game given its dev cycle) Played a bunch of indie games also. But didnt get around to the baulders gate. Sf6 was absolutely fantastic and feel the same about sf5. Was pretyy disappointed with mk1. I think the gameplay and story mode was good, just feels barebones. I sold my kollectors edition for it which is blasphemy 🤣. Kept the game, still playing it here and there but man sf6 was just another level. So im not sure. I feel like Armored Core was probably my favorite this year. Ac6, gaiden, or sf6.

If we're talking simply scientifically or technologically, the seventh generation is the greatest because it holds the record for the highest leap in graphical fidelity and social connectivity. If we're talking games, nostalgia, or visual design, then the answer is completely up for grabs.

I’ll always say 6th but looking back 7th was a close second.
