This is an awesome video! I thought about doing one as well. I agree, I love the Akai Katana cover, but it doesn’t have much to do with the game. One of my favorite recent cover arts is the re-release of A Plague Tale Innocence. It was a cover exclusive from the publishers website; Focus. I’d also have to mention Octopath Traveller II, beautiful art.
the amount of box art nowadays thats just a guy with a gun posing always makes me chuckle, when you conciously look for it you find that theres so many of just a guy with a gun posing
I love box art so much I throw away crappy box art and print my own from fan work. I love box art so much I print box art for games with no physical release.
Box art is such an underappreciated art form, it makes me sad how rare TRULY great boxart is nowadays. Makes me think of a few examples of boxart I love: Resident Evil 4 (PAL GameCube version): The red skies, and shadows of the trees, revealing the silhouette of the chainsaw guy. May not tell you a lot about the game itself, but it is a beautiful art piece. Dark Souls 3: Another amazing art piece, that always made me laugh a bit because I swore for a while, it looked like the guy on the cover was giving a thumbs up. I know that's not what's actually happening, but I can't unsee it. Super Mario Odyssey: A more recent example, but it's just exploding with so much color and charm in your face, I can't help but love it. Halo 2: Can't explain what it is about this one, but it gives off SUCH a vibe. Chief's model, the post, the orange/black sky, it's just so striking and frankly, cool. Xenoblade 2 (The Steelbook): Probably my favorite boxart of all time. Just an amazing art piece for one of my favorite games.
