I noticed a couple differences with the US Genesis 2 and the European MD2: The mini 2 has a power switch rather than a button, and the central etching between power and reset is gone. I think Sega originally planned a Japan-only release and was caught by surprise by the demand from America and Europe, so they used the Japanese MD mold, with region-appropriate branding. A small difference, but I thought I'd mention it.
That's really neat, yeah this whole release just seems a little odd, but I'm glad it happened and that each region is getting their fair shake. From what I can tell the Genesis and Mega Drive where way more popular in the west than Japan itself, so it's great and makes sense that it got a worldwide release. Also, thanks for watching!!!!

Just got mine today! Amazon actually got this to my home in the States very quickly! So no complaints here! I couldn't believe how small the box for this version was!
Did it come in a standard brown cardboard box, or did they just drop it off on your doorstep, red genesis box showing to the world? It's raining here, and my doorstep pools a small amount of water. Plus theft/kid visitors is always an issue around Halloween.
It came in a standard cardboard outterbox with some plastic holding it in place. It was a regular shipping box, no Sega branding on it or anything like that. Btw, thanks for watching!

I live in Europe and I can confirm that the Megadrive model 2 that I still own did NOT have a switch on the left. They messed that up. Omitted the power LED ...and the plastic where it says SEGA right in the middle of the console should be smooth and glossy and not matt.

I had the original Sega Genesis with the Altered Beast game pack in. I think I might have traded it in for the SNES when it was released back in the day. Another stupid decision as a kid, but I wasn't too concerned about collecting, just playing games. The original Sega Genesis console, box art design, and logos were what made it special to me, which is why I will never like the Mega Drive name, lol. I might pass on this mini, there's already a lot of games I'm hoping will go on sale for the holiday as I am still missing quite a lot of games in my collection as well as new games that are coming out soon.
There's no wrong choice when choosing between the SNES and Genesis, so don't beat yourself up about it!! And yes, to me, Genesis is the better name, but Mega Drive isn't bad, it does make it sound more like CD player or hard drive brand, but I don't want my international watchers to be offended so I always put a little respect to the MD name! lol Also, thanks again for commenting and watching!

Yeah, that switch certainly is weird, nowhere near a deal breaker though. And yes, I Saturn mini is the dream, so that people won't need to break the bank to actually play good Saturn games, and for preservation purposes. We'll just have to wait and see. Also, thanks for watching and commenting!

Had no clue this was only available through Amazon. Was expecting to see it at my local Walmart like the 1st release. Well that's a shame, and great unboxing Mike. Sonic CD with all those region variants is quite nice, and just being able to play a lot of pricey titles. You can really tell SEGA were working on a budget here, but hope those titles are well emulated. The last M2 emulated game I tried was Castlevania Anniversary Collection, and those were quite solid.

I agree with your looking forward to list but give Crusader of Centy a go, it’s a very expensive game cartridge alone in the $900 range but more importantly it’s a fantastic action RPG (not a traditional RPG) that’s very similar to Zelda on the SNES.
As a Canadian, and a collector of official release items, its really grinding my gears that the release hasn't been available in Canada! I'm concerned the Genesis Mk II will only get a limited American release and stop like Konami did with the TG16 mini. It looks great, aside from the power switch being 'different' (but practical?). Did it come with the same USB power brick as the last console?
I believe the power brick is slightly smaller. Also, I'm curious, this release wasn't available at all for pre-order in Canada? That seems so strange to me, and I really hope that you are able to get this at a fair price! Also, thanks so much for watching!

I'm not as nostalgic for.the Saturn but the dreamcast and the other minis sega has made excluding the special arcade one they made for.overseas only, I am nostalgic for and love when sega and nintendo do these! Now if nintendo would make that 64 mini...

Missed out on the second mini, like you my first model was the Megadrive 2 (pal instead tho) Later on i found out about the pal region slower games and smaller screen wich was noticeable when playing Sonic 2 very much on a friends imported Genesis 2 (back then not knowing what was off). Got the first Genesis mini (wich also has some amazing titles) yet this one i plan on waiting since it was difficult to get. Has to be the Genesis mini 2 once i get it, i love the design over the first model. Great video man, thx for sharing 👍🏻

The Model One is the best looking game system ever made.
Just got mine today and was pleasantly surprised to see it came with an AC adapter.....as the Megadrive version did not.
The extra version of space harrier arcade looks great, and they've changed the graphics on space harrier 2.

Actually there was a button too on the European Mega Drive, only the Japanese Mega Drive had a switch.
