Regarding your speculations on why there seems to be a lack of hype surrounding Final Fantasy XVI, I must say I feel this way too. I have been a huge lover of the Final Fantasy series since I was a young child, their stories and messages have been so impactful to me and my life and it is one of few franchises that I am always there for. With that said however, I feel I have been burned from FF hype too many times that with the coming of FF XVI, I am trying to temper my expectations.
No doubt I have still enjoyed each mainline Final Fantasy game in their own right, but I no longer feel like they strike that same resonance as the older entries. I must admit though, there is still that part of me inside that is just gushing at the return to a medieval fantasy setting and the more mature themes.

Yeah, its sad that we may have to temper our expectations on a mainline Final Fantasy, which back in the day would be a crazy statement. They haven't been the life affecting titles they use to be for a while now, despite always being solid. However, deep in my heart, I really hope for them to return to form and blow my expectations away... that may not happen, but I'd love to be proven wrong.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@ChipDamageMike With you 100% on that, if you told me that I would later feel this way during the run up to FFXV's launch I'd of cried SLANDER. PREPOSTEROUS. I must say though that despite my hesitation to let myself give into the hype, I'm also with you 100% on that deep seated feeling that there will be that grand, mind-blowing experience to come. Maybe that experience will be FFXVI, maybe it will be FFXVII, I am certain it will happen at some point. Some may call it fools hope, I like to think I'm being optimistic. 😄
For what it's worth I should mention the FFVII Remake! Holy COW was that a mind-blowing experience for me, I suppose I didn't really consider that in my previous comment due to being a remake of an older entry vs mainline entries, but it's probably why I know in my heart that Square-Enix still got that magic sauce. When I really think about that game, the changes they made and the approach they took compared to the original. Mind blowing. Literally had so many jaw dropping moments. A lot of people seem to either love or hate FFVIIR, but I myself as a massive fan of the original found it to be an incredibly creative, artistic and ambitious way to create a "remake". Sure there were some hokey elements and ideas that could have been better executed, what piece of media doesn't? But to me it was able to propel FF7 to heights I could never have imagined, whilst still keeping the core and heart of FF7 originals gameplay mechanics, story and thematic messaging.

@@JayLeeGames Totally agree, the core and heart were somehow maintained, and I think that is easily the most important aspect, and also what could've of gone wrong the most easily. I have high hopes for part 2, and it's easily my most anticipated game next year!

Dang that is a quick upload! Kudos to you Mike :)
I actually only just discovered you last night through your video on discussing some amazing PSP titles, and the more natural, laid back approach you have towards striking a conversation on-video really clicks for me. Reminds me of some of the great content creators I love to listen to even if it's just audio on a commute and whatnot. Happy to be here now :)

I don't really care much for the game awards, because I barely have time to play any game, just trying to keep up with game releases and catching rare limited editions are enough of a headache lol
To me, Final Fantasy is about the unique characters (art designs, variety of them, etc.) and a very intriguing mysterious (and sometimes dark) story that expands over many characters and locations.
It was never about the aesthetics, always the super cool characters and stories.
I feel the same way about FF16, it looks very try hard being dark and mature, in all the bad ways possible.
If FF16 bombs, then that's the end for them. They've lost what made FF good.
BTW, I've played a bit of FF14, and the short amount of time I had with it, it was better than 12, 13, and 15. Plus it is a very easy MMO, compared to the grind in some MMOs that would take months/years to get gear (and not even the best gear).

I’m not a big fan of the awards but the games shown were great. Mainly DS2 and Hades 2. On your thoughts on Final Fantasy 16 I’m hyped for it myself but I think next year is so stacked with games that it’s hard to be hyped for any one game. We have a new Zelda, Dead Space, Resident Evil 4 remake and Final Fantasy 7 rebirth just to name a few.

Well...I think anything and everything has a learning curve. I had to learn how to appreciate books and movies and music.
I mean there's college classes for that.

    • @ChipDamageMike
      @ChipDamageMike  Рік тому

O for sure I agree, but I’d still say those mediums can be enjoyed more passively, especially at an introductory level. Like, to someone whose never held a gaming controller, I think it can be a bit intimidating, especially if not introduced early. Sure, to properly, thoughtfully and thoroughly enjoy any media, education and background will enhance that experience, but a game can combine elements of film, music and literature, but then on top of that , many games ask you to have dexterity and quick reflexes, which is something the other three mediums you mentioned don’t ask a person to have.
Not to say that it’s easy to fully appreciate ANY art form, but I think as a newer one, gaming can ask a lot from a person not accustomed to it, and there’s alot to appreciate it. Like I think it’s harder for many people to be able to engage with and I understand why Ikaruga is a great game, than it is to recognize why The Godfather is a great film.
Maybe I’m crazy, but as always, thanks for watching and commenting!! Thanks 😊

The new Hellboy game looks very interesting, especially considering they kept the artstyle from the comics intact.

Generally, I feel like this year's Game Awards was pretty good compared to the previous years
First, I'm want to share my thoughts on the important stuff, aka, the reveals, and I will say I was not expecting there to be a new Bayonetta game to be revealed, and also to see a trailer for Fire Emblem as it doesn't really feel like a Game Awards game. The DLC for Engage has me excited thou
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League while looks interesting, does concern me due to how Gotham Knights was recieved, but I am excited for Star Wars: Jedi Survivor thou (still need to finish Fallen Order)
I am excited for Tekken 8 & Street Fighter 6 (I have been meaning to get Tekken 7 for a while honestly)
I will say, I couldn't get into Multiversus eventually, played it less than an hour and lost interest. I honestly prefer Nickelodeon All Star Brawl when it comes to licensed fighting video games (although, I prefer Smash Ultimate when it comes to video games in general).
The best reveals for me were Hades II & Blue Protocol thou, I am excited for both games
When it comes to the awards, majority of them I didn't care for them, expected Elden Ring to win GOTY since the release date was announced. When it comes to snubs, I feel like XBC3 was snubbed when it comes to Best Score & Music, and Horizon Forbidden West was snubbed aswell. I also feel like Sonic Frontiers was snubbed when it comes to Player's choice.
As for the individual awards, Christopher Judge had an amazing speech after he won his award, which I liked, surprised how long it went (also, Al Pacino presenting the award was a surprise). Glad Bayonetta 3 & Kirby: The Forgotten Land got an award each. Sifu getting a nomination for Best Fighting Game confuses me, but I am glad Multiversus won, even thou I quickly lost interest in the game when I tried it out. It didn't pull me in like Nickelodeon All Star Brawl did, which I have also since dropped due to lack of interest.
When it comes to Best Adaptation, not sure why or how Uncharted got a nomination, perhaps due to lack of nominations, but Cuphead was a meh show for me, although I still have to see the new episodes. As for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, I have yet to watch it, but I have heard great things. I didn't mind if either Sonic the Hedgehog 2 or Arcane had won, as both where pretty great adaptations imo, but I am glad Arcane won (and would of been happy if Edgerunners won) as 2022 has unfortunately generally been a sh*t year for animation as a whole.
When it comes to Final Fantasy XIV, I've lost all hype I've had. Mainly due to lack of updates and the controversies surrounding it. Not to mention, I still have to finish Final Fantasy XV & the Final Fantasy VI Remake. Also still need to play the Final Fantasy 13 games that I purchased on Steam
Edit: I forgot that there was another game that excited me, that been Relic Hunters Legend

Thank you for bringing up some games I didn't mention! Suicide Squad is interesting, I just haven't loved the Arkham series since City, buy maybe with new playable characters it'll change my opinion, but I probably will wait a while until after launch to check that one out.
And yes, I feel like many people dropped Mulitverses after an hour lol I think it is just objectively a little soulless and boring.
I strongly suggest Edgerunner, it hooked me quick and stuck with me in a way that is rare for me these days. And yes, the Cuphead show didn't really do it for me, but it was OK.
I really hope you enjoy the FF7 remake and 15, and I really do think that FF13 isn't nearly as bad as media at the time would have you believe.
I also agree that it was a solid show this year, and I hope it continues to improve in the years to come.
Thank you so much for watching and for your thoughtful comments! Much appreciated.

Thanks for the hot takes, Mike. This video (like your others) was informative for those off us who haven't kept up with the recent happenings in the industry! To be honest like a lot of the game collectors, I seem to have ventured more backwards, than forward. It's 2004 right now, and the Original Xbox is taking no prisoners!

Did you like bayo3? Theres a lot of controversy around it (which I think is dumb)

    • @ChipDamageMike
      @ChipDamageMike  Рік тому +2

I LOVED it. The controversy is dumb. The whole voice actress thing was bizarre for sure, but I think people got over it quickly. Also people who are upset for story reasons are a little kooky IMO. Like I said, Bayonetta as a series is all about the gameplay and the style, it's never taken itself too seriously, and people who go to this series for the plot aren't really playing the game for its strengths.
Also there are people who are mad that their "ship" isn't cannon to the plot, and those complaints are just...unbearable lol
But I loved the game! Did it have a flaw or two? Sure, the enemy design was a little bland and Viola's combat isn't as fun as Bayo herself, but I still think it was deserving of action game of the year.
So yeah, I think it was great! Thanks for watching!

Tho I'm a little bit cautious for Diablo 4 since it's activision blizzard, but then again the new COD game is actually quite decent so who knows how Diablo 4 could turn out
