The spirit of this channel is to help you decide whether that videogame that you have been thumbing for ages is indeed the right game for you or not. Expect reviews, playthroughs, commentary, recommendations and, when I'm feeling like it, I'll probably be sharing some of the stuff that I've learned from videogames. Hopefully I'll get the chance to share with you some ideas about films and books. (Hopefully you'll lend my a hand with that with some recommendations). This channel is called ye old entertainment for a reason though... don't expect reviews and comments of games and movies fresh out the oven. (I'll tell you why eventually). Cheers and enjoy
Five more card battler deckbuilders to add to the tier maker list. Some are your recommendations!
I have a few more card battler and card battler-adjacent games. From some of the most fabulous recommendations you made to some more obscure roguelike deckbuilders that I'm sure you won't see coming, I have a little bit of everything. If you want to check out the first video in the series, here's the link!

Outward is top tier game... for the right player

Now that Outward 2 is coming out, I thought it would be a good time to honor my long overdue promise and make a video about this insane masterpiece of an RPG by Nine Dots studios that ticks all the right boxes for the right player. Why people like WolfheartFPS, ESO and several other channels consider this videogame to be one of the crown jewels? hopefully you'll get your answer with this video....
The Thaumaturge review. An RPG that's not for everyone, but it might just be for you.

The Thaumaturge is an RPGish game with turn based combat mecanics, developed by Fool's Theory and 11 bit studios, that's barking at the same tree as The Witcher games, those Bioware games from the early 2010s (Dragon Age, Mass Effect, etc) or Red Dead Redemption. But the setting and story are unique and enticing. It may not be for everyone, but if it is for you, you're probably going to be like...

Top 10: Trans GenRe games . FPS games that identify as RPGs... yes that sort of thing.
The biggest time sink of a game I have ever played. It’s worthless. Animation based combat which people call “realistic” when it’s not. Walking simulator where you spend long stretches of time doing nothing. NO RESPECCING of breakthrough points. Constantly having to look up the wiki to look up weaknesses on bosses so you don’t die 10 times and have to run back to sleep wasting more time. It’s busy work. I pushed myself to get through this game and I got full squire plus maelstrom blade and got the crimson avatar set plus both liches armor sets and star child claymore just to name a few. This game is not for anyone who has a family and multiple responsibilities irl.
that long ahh intro was freaking beautiful. loved it! ❤😂
This is the most boring and overhyped game I've ever played I played it for 3 hours and got refunded I don't know how anybody was able to play all the way through this game the combat is so boring and so slow I don't care about the story if everything else in between is pain
Jean-Francois Recene is one of the most brilliant musical artists ever. Every single one of his works in Outward and its subsequent DLCs is memorable and nostalgic. He’s like a more upbeat, modernized Jeremy Soule
Yes, this OST is criminally underrated.
Thanks so much for featuring Deepest Chamber! We appreciate the honest feedback and are glad you enjoyed the game. 🧙♂

Bruh why people r writing essays here. Hes just a random dude on the internet who tf cares if he's right just enjoy your shit
I have a feeling you only got mad because Library of Ruins looks like "anime", weird but okay. That's your opinion and I respect it, but I also want to clarify a couple of things. I don't want to sound like that dude who says "the game gets better after 50 hours", but it's partially true, not after 50 hours of course, but after a few. In the future, there are more playable characters up to five at a time, more key pages ("skins"), more status effects (burning, bleeding, paralysis, fragility, strength, etc.), emotion mechanics (pretty hard to understand at the beginning), clash mechanics, more unique cards, mass attacks, anomaly cards (unique floor cards), more speed dice per character (up to 4), counter dice, anomaly battles, E.G.O cards, ass-kissing boss battles (I still have PTSD from one widow). Looking at the story from the point of view of someone who has completely completed the game, it is a masterpiece, Roland is my favorite character. Yes, at first everything seems strange and incomprehensible and it seems that the characters are quite cardboard, but as soon as you begin to understand what is happening, everything becomes better and better, the plot accelerates until it comes to a logical conclusion (although the ending, in my opinion, is quite drawn out). As for the price, I don’t see any problems, the game is quite long (in a good way) and brings a lot of emotions, both good (peak story, victory in a difficult battle, collecting the optimal build) and bad (when your entire team died in an hour-long battle with the boss and you have to replay), so in my opinion the game is completely worth every euro/dollar/yen/won/mark/ruble. And finally, HOLY SHIT THIS IS A RED-(Killed by 42 roll card) Sorry for the text, English is not my native language.
I respect your opinion about library of ruina, but naming such title without maybe even an hour of playtime will really mislead people. This is especially be a problem when your playtime is also not mentioned in the video. I'm not saying that you are obligated to play the game more, but at least stating such fact of not having much playtime in a game would help viewers to know that this is an opinion made from just an hour of playtime. I know you don't like the game, but I have seen a lot of people who are into card games liking this game, and I just hope that this video isn't gate keeping people from trying it. In my opinion, people overlook a game they are interested in just because someone who reviews games gave only negative opinions on it. I just hope this video doesn't gate keep people from potentially experiencing some unlike any other, like I have.
its so much more than what he describes if he would just play more.. theres a part of me saying that his hate of the ‘anime’ style tainted his experience
Once upon a time I'd probably get defensive about someone absolutely blasting my fav game of all time, but what good would that do anyone? I'll just say that I think we have common ground in loathing the creepy and tired anime cliches that plague lots of games, but ngl I didn't find any of that in Library of Ruina. I know you've probably heard "durr gameplay gets deeper later", but that doesn't happen 100 or even 5 hours in, as soon as you get a second character the game shows its hand a lot more, which is only around 1.5 hours. The story didn't click with you which is a shame, but going off the overwhelmingly positive reviews you can see that many players found it thoroughly engaging. There's some flagrantly wrong stuff that makes me think the Library of Ruina portion of the video might be rage bait (saying the company's made other card games when a google search tells you they haven't, saying its over priced when its a 135 hour game), but I can also totally believe you didn't fuck with the game and that's fine. Video up until then was pretty enjoyable tho, cheers
Sorry, but now you are being purposefully disingenuous when you say "saying the company's made other card games when a google search tells you they haven't" when I very clearly said: "it feels as though the developers never played a card battler or a card game for that matter in their life. And before you weebs start saying "actuallyyyy" know that I KNOW THAT IS NOT THE CASE, I KNOW THESE DEVELOPERS HAVE MADE SOME OTHER CARD GAMES (sorry for the caps, but I need to emphasize and it angers me that you decided to ignore that part of the video). Also, the value of the game does not solely have to do with hours needed to complete it. But to me (this is a personal video, as they all are) the quality of the game is not even remotely worth the price. And since whether or not something is worth the price is a personal appreciation there is nothing "flagrantly wrong about it", it's just an opinion that you happen to disagree with.
@@YeOldEntertainment Sorry for the misunderstanding- when someone says a game is overpriced, they're typically referring to the amount of content you get for the money you pay, but I see you were more referring to how you believe the game's quality doesn't match the 30 dollars. But for the second part, I think you might be misunderstanding me, the words you capitalized are exactly what I was talking about. The company *hasn't* made any other card games, neither before nor after library of ruina- so I just found it strange that you claimed to "know these developers have made other card games." I'm not saying that you not liking the game is flagrantly wrong either, that's why I said "I can also totally believe you didn't fuck with the game and that's fine", what I was pointing out were some aspects of the game we view differently + some fact I genuinely think you got wrong or could've used further explanation. Even if you disagree, I hope you can see I wasn't being purposefully disingenuous, and I just want to repeat that I appreciate you sharing your opinions and not sugar-coating your criticisms- that stuff is important in generating discussions and encouraging critical thinking.
i tried the game when it launched for consoles and rage quited almos instantly, then they gifted the next gen upgrade with the ultimate version and tried the game again, this time i studied the game and took my time learning the weapons and skills, plus all the new Quality of life aded to game make it one of my favorite games of all time, is like a D&D campaing were you really fell the hero, your choises and time matter and have consecuences and there are so many build that you can replay the game and dont get tired
I'm glad you gave it a second chance! It truly is a masterpiece.
I seriously wish somebody showed this to the developers of Dragon Age Veilguard when this came out 🥲
Don't think they would've watched for more than a minute.
As someone who invested a decent amount of time into Library of Ruina, and liked the experience it offered, I feel like half of your criticisms are on point, while others are off base or matters of taste. I agree that the game is very convoluted and it's very bad at explaining it's mechanics (a recurring problem in Project Moon's games). As far as it being shallow goes, that is quite true in the beginning of the game, you just aren't given any real options to specialise a build at that point. As far as the story goes, when people praise it, they're mostly talking about the latter half of the game, since the first half pretty much feels like a very long-winded prologue. However, I didn't really get your "show don't tell" argument, it felt to me like the game has shown plenty and I didn't understand why it doesn't count as real worldbuilding. As far as the mystery boxes go, they aren't supposed to be a mystery, since this is actually a sequel to an incredibly hard management sim. Due to that the game kinda relies on you already being invested into the setting, which kinda makes it worse for people, who don't want to sink hundreds of hours into one of the most bullshit management sims known to man, before playing a deck builder. Overall, I think your opinions are completely valid for someone who only played a few hours and decided it's not your cup of tea. Could you enjoy it a later stage of the game? Maybe. But I think suggesting anything along the lines of "Bro just trust me, this game gets so much better after hour 150, just stick it out until then!!!1!1" is frankly insane and unlikely to be true anyway. Even if it does get better later in, if there's *nothing* you liked in the prologue, you probably won't like the majority of what the game has to offer in later stages as well.
I have to say that I have mad respect to the way in which you answered to a strongly negative criticism of a game you like: level-headed, substantiating your points and without using passive aggressive sarcasm or invalidating me as an opinion giver, (like the person who responded to you and called me a "game journalist" and will, from now on, talk only to himself). That's a rare thing these days, so hats off. As for the basic principle of "show don't tell" and how it is subverted in this game, I'll give you a couple of examples off the top of my head. When the second group receives the letter, there's a text describing the man who had it inside him and the condition in which he was found in... they could have shown us the image and let us see for ourselves. In that same passage, one of the characters asks an "audience question" (this is really bad in my book) like "what is a letter doing inside a corpse?" and then a long exposition of what every character thinks should be done about the invitation follows. This is done so as to make absolutely sure the audience "gets" what every character thinks the group should be do about the invitation. I think brief texts and expressions would've been enough for us to piece together where each of the gang members stood on the issue. Also... these characters are secondary, almost not important in the slightest in the grand scheme of things... the whole situation that involves them serves the purpose of letting us (the audience) know how invitations work. There is no need to dive deep into each of their opinions about the invitation, this drags the story unnecessarily. Another example is the passage in which Angela asks whether or not Roland knows the other fixer... and Roland uses two analogies/explanations to make it clear that it is unlikely because there are too many of them. I really don't know what Roland's character is like because I didn't play long enough, but let's say he's a cynic... if he's a cynic, some ironic/sarcastic one-liner would have sufficed to tell us, the audience, that the very notion of all fixers knowing each other is ridiculous and it would've also served to tell us a little more about Roland's personality (again, if he is a cynic. If he has some other personality trait, then they should've given a different explanation consistent with his personality). I don't know if these characters later evolve into multilayered characters and if the story branches out into solid plots that are the result of characters needing to do something and coming into conflict with other characters who want the exact opposite thing (rather than the plot forcing them into situations), but I just can't stand the narrative style, and I don't think the narrative style is going to change. I also dislike the game as a card game, I dislike the visuals, I strongly disliked the user experience, and there are too many games out there that I want to play for me to make a gamble on a game that I do not find appealing in any way.
Despite being one of my favourite games of all time and still playing through modded content, yeah, the game is far from perfect. The lack of variety in the prologue besides "use the better cards lol" really undersells the variety in deckbuilding and enemies you get later on. And if you don't like long visual novel segments either, then yeah, that prologue turns into even more of a shallow slog. It's an awful idea to leave what's supposed to be the first impressions of the game and what SHOULD hook you in as an afterthought. When it comes to gameplay, most of the cool stuff is unfortunately seen later. Aside from better and more interesting cards (Rapid Gashes, discard, Brawl), you also get to add passives from other key pages to the one you're using, which not only adds variety, but makes good earlier passives usable later on. Also, more dice slots means more options in battle, which in turn gives more depth to the clashing system, which gets taken advantage of in later fights. Some of my favourite examples are the overworked assassin group whose grave injuries are reflected in gameplay (start with less health, some strong effects have a drawback attached to them, one even has a targetable unusable dice slot) and generally specialize in cards that have low health conditionals, the character that can switch stances with a different deck for each that applies buffs to a specific type of dice as well as an additional buff and the guys who fill their hand with ammunition to discard to strengthen their gun-themed attacks and apply strong status effects. Another issue is that some floors feel incomplete until you unlock everything they offer (Tiphereth's floor being the worst offender, imo), and there's little incentive to use floors where you don't have as much stuff unlocked as others. Plus, the power disparity between floors is very apparent later on, though you can beat the game with any floor. Floors like Yesod and Gebura's are broken as hell, while Netzach's floor's design is all over the place. Still, each floor's abnormality pages allow for unique strategies that cannot be replicated by any other floor, which makes them feel unique among each other, and you have a decent variety of playstyles to choose from, even a deck that revolves entirely on killing the enemy through BLOCKING. Honestly, I think mechanics such as singleton, which is basically a highlander deck, should have been introduced earlier (albeit in a less powerful state, of course) to give the players an idea of card synergy that goes beyond status effect spam at early game.
@@YeOldEntertainment Thank you for the elaboration! The thing about not showing an image for everything is so common among visual novel style games, I completely failed to even consider it. Side characters very frequently talk in exposition, and while it doesn't irk me that much, I completely understand why people strongly dislike it. I don't really have much to say about other points besides "Yeah, that's about right". Also thanks to you too for being reasonable in the reply as well, and I respect you valuing your time enough to not waste it on games you clearly don't enjoy.

Yes... pretty much
I don’t care for card battlers, but I enjoy hearing you talk about them.
Well thanks my man! We'll go back to discussing RPGs in no time so don`t worry.
I am more of and RPG fan, and old school RPGs, and I have not played many of these. I have dabbled in slay the spire, but never got too in to it. I did quite enjoy the Thea games though they are more grand strategy card games, and are more about playing the cards in the right order, than using them to attack. I'd also like one with enough depth to keep me going for a long time, with either story, mechanics or something with an easy to learn but hard to master feel. Are there any that would be good for a more RPG fan and beginning card battler player? Gordian Quest looks good and easy, but you did not think it had longevity. And Griftlands may be good but not a great representation of the genre...which may make it better for a player not invested in the genre. Tainted Grail and Beneath Oresa look interesting but may be too much for someone pretty new to the genre. Also lets take a moment to thank youtube for not telling me you posted this a month ago, despite me have the notifications active...luckily today's video referenced this one, so I went back. :)
Well I would say Griftlands or Black Book are both excellent choices or an RPG fan. First they are not very difficult. Second they are very story driven. And third... Griftland has more player agency than many RPGs, not only does it have three different stories, but also your decisions can land you on multiple different endings. You even get stills at the end Fallout-style that tell you what became of the world, the characters and the MC as a product of your decisions. I say you can't go wrong with those.
Good vid. Some nice recommendations right there. I really like the overal aethetics of this Deepest Chamber. Will check it out
It's not the most professionally put together game, but it's got good mechanics and the ambiance is pretty decent.
I also really despise most anime style games. I couldn't quite put my finger on why other than the fact that I hate the art style, but I think you precisely put into words my thoughts on those games. So, thank you!
Good to know I'm not alone.
Fights in tight spaces seems all like the Metal Gear Acid games from psp which I loved!!!
Yes it does have a bit of that vibe.
Never really been into card battler games -- well, I've never played one; the concept, itself, kinda turns me off. But I own Slay the Spire and Inscription, so maybe I'll give them a chance. I might own Monster Train, too. I'll have to go back and check. Between those three, what would you recommend for a first-timer?
Gee, I don't know. Inscryption is kinda the most welcoming because it has other things going for it: a great story, some puzzle solving, etc. Also, it's not difficult at all, but it's also not very representative of the genre. Slay the Spire is perfect for all tiers of players: the noob, the seasoned and the expert, so maybe go with that one?

@YeOldEntertainment - Came to report back. Turns out, I don't have the games I thought I did. But I DO have Monster Train. I've played it a few times (~20 runs). I can confirm, it's a very fun game. It's GREAT for keeping my ADHD brain busy during tedious work meetings. I would never do that, of course, but I assume it would be good for that :D
this video comes like ordered. i am still searching for the right one I am itching for. My biggest gripes with STS and Monster Train is the art style.
Well, the other two on the top tier take themselves more seriously in that department, I suppose.
Wow, you really don't like those anime-like games. This one looks cringeous. Jaja
Beyond.
Peglin was one of the funnest times we had in CBS.
You just like watching someone play with their balls.
@YeOldEntertainment it is one of the joys of life yes.
I've been a gamer for close to four decades, and Outward is definitely one of my favorite games of all time. I eagerly watched its development and have been playing this lovely game (and its two excellent DLCs) since the initial release on PC. My playtime so far, according to Steam, is 1756 hours; which I suppose is enough of an endorsement of the game haha. Thanks for the video!
And thank you for watching.
Crazy amount of time lol I've put 400 hours about the same as Elden Ring! 1700 hours, you have done everything 50 times at least. I know I've done it like 10 times including my permadeaths 😅
not a serious contender. it isnt mainstream enough
Great review. Btw this Wanda lady you mentioned doubting the reality of woman being hardcore socialist and resistance fighter is actually based on real person - Wanda Krahelska. This girl was socialist resistance fighter, she attempted to assassinate Russian governor of Warsaw by throwing dynamite sticks at his coach together with other girl and 40 years later during WW2 she was hiding Jews from Germans. Yeah, majority of resistance fighters were male but women participation in the movement was real, not some sort of todays woke propaganda
For anyone that wants to get into this game but is turned off by the timed quests *this also annoyed me and was almost a deal breaker until i found out the advice i am about to give you all* ** Very Minor Spoiler Shield ** There are 2 times in the game where you are given a grace period where you can explore and enjoy the game with as far as i am aware no threat of time related shenanigans. Looking to the Future is the first quest that is not timed ... this happens after you fix your blood price which is the first quest in the game, by not completing this quest you can explore *as far as i am aware* till your hearts content, get a good feel for the game, some kind of economy and a bare bones build that will let you finish the next few timed quests. If this still turns you off, the wiki has a list of EVERY quest in the game, in order with all the timed related quests so you can tick them off. That said the time periods are not the worst, i believe 50 to 100 in game days so don't panic Tootoo much.
Refunded , lacs a good feel, refunded it in 2 hours, the jank is too noticeable and annoying.
I will give the game a try. You have a lovely channel sir, congratulations😊

Thanks! I hope you enjoy it!
The wardens are in small numbers as it is, if word got out that people die because if the joining, they would even find less volunteers. If you survived the joining why would you reveal the secret to the public? If ur dead ur just dead. It does make sense in my opinion..
The Pink Floyd lyrics were very stylish. I will definitely add this to my must play list
I had to sneak play every game. Cause "grown men don't play vidia-games". The world has changed some since then. :)
The thrill of sneaking!
In Underrail it can become very easy to kill all Enemies, but you need to know the Enemy. Lets take the Mutants as a example here as well. Ok there are 2 Groups of them, the ones with Weapons wich are easier, a Nade here and there with a Antibulletsvest and its done. The harder part are the Acid Mutants, but thats what they are, Acid based Enemies. So when you change your Armor to protect against that and make some Boots on top, it beomes a lot easier than just counting on your Build alone.
Bioware need to watch this video. study it .and do a deep deep introspection to understand why they were good. really really good video. please keep up the good work.
Yes please keep going with your story it was very exciting to see how you played out the game
I thought IWD2 was so so gorgeous. The icy, beautiful bleakness of the Spine of the World. The moan of the wind, the melancholic creak of timber. The muting snow blanketing the palisades and sundry trappings of war. The gruff and stoic bevy of characters, the hardened floatsam of Faerun pushed, or rather drawn to its cruel northern fringe. All of this lent color by the vivid and even violent streak of magic that pulsed through the game - both in the spells themselves and the wondrous sense of adventure that it drew out of this child playing it. I was enraptured. It was more than a game world it was a masterpiece of art that stretched before you on a canvas so large and alluring you wanted to get lost in it and explore every stitch.
It was lightning in a bottle
My thoughts on the progression system in dd2 is that, it's less of "you're getting stronger for free" and more "you're unlocking your intended potential by trying and failing while handicapped". It really feels like a lot of characters outside of the initial 4, are nearly useless without progressing their story line, unlocking new skills and then unlocking all the paths for their skill augmentation. I suppose this could be subjective but just as one example, leper feels best to be as a poet. And you don't have him, or that upgrade path for quite a few runs into the game. So not so much getting "stronger" but getting to a point where your comp is actually competent.
I bought the one copy for my Steam Deck, I hope I will have time to play it.
I hope so too!
Hell yes! New Ye Old! Just cracked a beer aswell.... kick back and listen brother!
Nice. Enjoy!

Funny , I was just about to start this Game
Not sure if it was intentional or not, but I found it very appropriate that in a review of outward where one of the prominent themes is that having to work and put effort into something makes the journey more meaningful, you made a review where the first 10 minutes don't mention the game at all
It absolutely was! At first I was thinking of making a UA-cam version where the intro would be seriously shortened and an only-for-discord users version (this one) that I was going to upload to Odysee... but then it struck me... man... it would be inconsistent with the game's theme...
Since the DE came out, im still playing it today on Xbox Series X.. never left lol
Yes, this one of those games that "one does not simply" leave.
I decided. In the start of my next playthrough I'll kill the hyenas with only push kick skill. Because dagger slash would be too op against them and using any of the normal weapons available for you on the beach is just too plain to be a challenge. Is a cool video, but Outward has great story and lore imo, and we do have access to the source for the details of what our grandma did as soon as we leave our house after the shipwreck. But ye love the general vibe of your approach to making the video ❤
It’s beautiful. Well worth the wait! Although I would have enjoyed to hear some more of your insights on the game and its mechanics. Nonetheless my I liked it a lot, and I think this might be the best video on Outward on the platform!
@@macrou It was long overdue, but I am a man of my word.
@ Yes, I never doubted that! Glad the day has finally come! I shared it in the Outward discord and on Reddit btw.
@@macrou Wow. Thanks my man!
I can’t believe my eyes!!
@@macrou I was looking forward to seeing you in the comments for this one!

I cannot wait for the sequel!
Dang what happened to your old intro and music? 😢
