Games that gripped me this year other than Baldur's Gate 3. Jagged Alliance 3, jagged Alliance 2 was as big a part if my childhood as Baldur's Gate 2 so this was an insanely nostalgic year for me. If you like tactical strategy RPGs then Jagged Alliance is one of the best, but it's bust your nuts hard. My time abd sandrock was really enjoyable, it helped me whind down from Baldur's Gate 3. It was just a really relaxing eniyable experience if a crafting gsme life sim. In a similar vane roots of Pacha abd virsl island were really great life sim type games. The games Im looking forward to? Skald is a big one, I backed it long ago and the demo made me realize that writing was going to be really good. I love its old school style while using more modern mechanics.
2024 already off to a great start Tekken 8 in the first month, Dragons Dogma 2 in the third, Space Marine 2 in September. And as an aside nebulous rumors that the Elden Ring DLC comes out this year
Graven is also underrated (in my opinion) Sovereign Syndicate is awesome and Prince of Persia looks very good (though I have not tried that one out myself
@@YeOldEntertainment I watched a bit of Tarmack's (the lead dev) channel his video on why games SHOULDN'T be more expensive (70 dollars) is still one of my favorites
@@YeOldEntertainment Well I respectfully disagree. Heh it is an age old question, which one's better. As long as people apreciate at least one of them is good enough.
Once again, a really solid breakdown, and a great blend of old and new. I am a hair's width from finishing my second BG3 run, and I can say that I have not been that impressed by a game since... The Wild Hunt? I have my issues, don't get me wrong, but I definitely felt it was worth the wait. Kudos to you for bringing FO and FO2 back into the limelight. Like the heathen I am, my first Fallout game was actually FO3 and I didn't play the first and second games until way after. As soon as I did though, it clicked. They are not just "oldies but goodies" but is amazing games even today.
My most anticipated RPGs of this year are Skald: Against Black Priory and Hibernaculum, both single-developer indie titles, and Avowed from Obsidian. It'll be interesting to see how Avowed, which I'm very cautiously optimistic about, along with Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, for which I honestly have zero positive expectations at this point, will hold up in post-Baldur's Gate 3 world. Because that game certainly has raised the bar in the triple-A RPG landscape.
@@YeOldEntertainment Yeah I was not impressed by Obsidian's gameplay presentation of Avowed. Hence why I went from positively optimistic to very cautiously optimistic. It might turn out as a "fine" game. But that's not the kind of RPGs I expect from Obsidian. Games that are just "fine".
I really enjoyed this format for best games, thank you! I haven't played most of the games on the list but I am really enjoying Hades. It's a game I wasn't sure I would enjoy, but it has turned out to be one of my favorite games.
I find it funny, that when you pronounced my username (which has since changed due to some weird youtube shenanigans), you were closer to saying my actual real name that it is a play on words from, than the actual username itself 😂. One day... Loved the vid. In regards to the companions, Fallout vs Baldur's gate 3, the companion structure is vastly different, and really hard to compare. BG3 companions are meant to integrate into the story as their own entity, coming together with the main character (and even designed to be the main character), and be a part of how the adventure unfolds. Fallout (all the games in the series), take an approach where the companions are a representation of the dogmatic approach more or less of their faction, and be a representative of them that also just help you out. The story really doesnt change with or without them, they just happen to exist, and can give some more insight into the world. Bg3 companions, though, hit the issue of a lot of the ways they develop, and the inconsistent progression of their characters. And the fact that they expect to you trust their every action, and just go along with it, without ever sharing the relevant information you would need to actual judge what to do in that situation, is really stupid. (Thats right gale, I'm looking at you.) Unfortunately, I haven't played vagrus, so can't really say anything about that. Also, in regards to music, there are differences between the two. Fallout helps create the immersion and the setting, while the music in BG3 is something that sounds nice, or amazing. It has cool parts, and the Raphael fight is amazing, but it does not lead to immersion, it leads to a pump of adreniline. Edit: The best ending to a video ever
How come BG3 wasn't nominated for character creation and progression?!?!?!?! I'm outrged and unsubbing right now!! :P Outstanding work, my man! I haven't played even a fraction of the games in this video, but I'm sure as hell each of them will get a place in my backlog!
i dissagree completely with anyone saying that 2023 was one of the best years in gaming, its just hat we had so much trash lately that 7/10 s felt like masterpieces after all that crap.
Say whatever you want, but the best release of 2023 was Alex Jones: NWO Wars. Sad to see that one world government pressured you not to add it to this list.
As far as "looks" go, I think the second one better. As for gameplay... I think the "dungeon design" of the first one is more immersive and it feels more high risk than the "diligence design" of the second one. I think the second one doesn't do much to differentiate itself from the first one but now that I've played it for a few dozen hours, I think it's slightly better.
@@YeOldEntertainment wow, I never expected the second one to come even close to the first one. Just the way it looks, its odd. I am not a fan of its presentation.

Thanks man. I needed a little bit of that
