Hastings, Michigan is home to one of the biggest gravel races in the world. This year 4500 riders were competing in 18, 36, 64 and 100 mile courses. that was great. When do they do that again? Thats my home "track". My home was seconds from the Silo. Went up there as a kid when it was private property in the 70's and 80s just to explore, ride bikes on the jeep trails and sled. Not to mention the dumb teen stuff. Its my favorite place in the world. I love that so many now get to use it!
August 11 will be the next one according to Cambr.org, July 28 will be at Raceway Woods. I would love to go back in time and see these places in the 70's.
I rode the DesPlains River Trail many times. It's so relaxing !

Went there today, in the “This is huge part” there is a room with a little ladder, you can see stairs above it and when you climb it you go up around 3-4 stories which at the top is a beautiful view.

Unfortunately, my camera kept shutting off towards the end, so no additional footage pass mile 40 or so. You guys were super strong, must be a challenge on the sand and dirt climbs.

No matter the course length the atmosphere was off the roof! If it sells out just get on the waitlist, I was like 100th on the waitlist and got in a month before the race.

I switched to Pathfinders S-Works in 42 and I’m glad I did, no road noise and felt good in those dirty sections. I’m doing Cow Pie and smaller fun event Pastry Bike Pastry and hopefully Palos Meltdown

I love that bike, if you’re shopping for race machine only then there are better bikes for that. I like that I can also take that bike for bike packing due to many attachment threads throughout and the internal storage is pretty sweet.
I’m not sure if I’m ready to purely commit to a race bike. I need something more “all purpose “ I’m thinking of getting a Domane SL6 for my on road rides and a checkpoint for gravel (I usually ride Des Plaines River Trail but would like to give racing a try).
Could you give me a few examples of “better” bikes for gravel/racing? Thanks in advance.
@@mxaexm I heard good things about Specialized Crux, Ridley Kanzo Fast, Canyon Grail, Salsa Warbird. Not sure if they are all better, depends on the components and overall weight. Also parts availability might play role. I like Trek as their headquarters are few hours away from me.

You will see a lot of cornfields that far south, but Peoria area has a lot of gravel, I have yet to explore. You can check gravelmap.com

It is not only useful, it's a fun bit of trail. I noticed that after your first run, you made a right and went up the multi toward Wolf Rd. rtc. I did the same thing; I figured it best not to meet head-on the dozens of riders coming up behind me....

Hi, I want to give my dog more opportunities to run and would love to bike with him. Hoping you can help me with a few questions: 1. is the leash and hip pack still working for you and your dog? Or would you recommend different gear? 2. do you just drop the leash handle in the fanny pack and zipper the pack closed (or mostly closed)? or does the pack have a special opening for the leash? 3. can you post another video of you two biking together? Hi, I still use the same gear and the hip pack must be more then halfway closed but not closed fully to allow smooth retracting motion of the leash. I also do running with the dog and purchased dog harness from Non Stop, which is the best dog harness for canicross or bikejoring. It's great that CAMBR built a new trial at Palos! And thanks for the opening day preview. It's extremely disappointing they did not take this opportunity to build a jump line or even include a few jumps, drops, or other features. Palos could be so much more than just an XC playground, but I guess CAMBR has decided it can't be?
Unfortunately Cambr does not own the land, not easy to work with county officials and Forest Services.
Cook County FP lawyers will not allow most features at Palos. Not a CAMBR decision.

Glad you found your way here! This year all my gravel rides and races are on 2022 Trek Checkpoint SL6 AXS with Bontrager GR1 40mm tires running around 35psi. Little heavier then my previous bike Scott Addict CX20 with 32mm tires, but overall smoother and more comfortable.
