I’m thinking of adding a new bike in addition to my gravel bike. I’m in Illinois as well. Would you recommend a hard tail or full suspension?
What do you think of Trek pro caliber 9.6? Any other recommendations for a bike under $3k?

Yeah, that is an awesome bike! Ultimately it depends on your riding style and what trails you will spend the most time on. I'd recommend test riding full suspension and hardtail. Softtail will be a smoother ride, great for roots, rocks and fast descending. Hardtails are great for climbing or our midwest MTB trails. If you'll be riding a lot get better drivetrain, like Shimano XT or Sram GX.
