I was kinda smiling when you missed that second turn. Isn’t that Wahoo supposed to tell you when to turn and when you are off route.
It would if I loaded the route! :-) I don't use navigation when riding locally, I find the beeping annoying! I'm using it to record my progress and keep milage records for bike maintenance through Strava.
@@SpokedTrails OK, I understand, I bought and tested a Wahoo. Sent it back for a refund. The alert tones were louder than they needed to be. The maps poor. Stayed with Garmin.
Many of the trails you were on were actually the original farm roads from the period when this area was cultivated. You can find the locations of the old farm houses. The Forest Preserve District seems to do minimal maintenance and in some cases does additional damage by running trucks in here. It does make it an interesting route.
You noticed the wide open areas and controlled burns done. The District, along with volunteers is in the process of restoring tracts to an Oak Savanna as the area originally was before people. They are removing the non native and invasive species and restoring the original grasslands with Oak trees. This is how the forest preserves should look like, not the tangled mess of growth you typically see.
It seems you are playing the video at increased speed. Sometimes difficult to view. The audio is also being overwhelmed by the tire and wind noise.
You have been on some trails I have travelled so it is still interesting to watch.

Is that an actual trail? That looks like someone's farmland backyard...all dirt path.
Yes it is an official trail, people walk their dogs there and horses are permitted too. Most people including cyclist stay on the paved trail that surrounds these woods and fields.
