I hiked this section of trail in 4 segments starting last fall and ending a few weeks ago. Brought back memories of areas I passed. Thank You for sharing your journey.

At the 41:00 minute mark you had to cross a makeshift bridge west of Ottawa. As of August 2021 the washout that caused this was finally repaired with a regular bridge. No more “Raider of the Lost Ark” type crossings. It looks great. A clear run from Ottawa to LaSalle Peru. In my August 2021 trip I did see at least 2 primitive camps between Utica and Ottawa on the south side of the trail, but I would have to go back to my GoPro footage to see where they are.

The washout at the 41 minute mark has been repaired. Now there is a regular bridge.

Hey nice video. I have cousins in the US and it would be great fun to ride from Washington DC where one lives, to Des Moines where several other cousins live. Your video was very helpful! I'm surprised by just how much of Illinois is canal side bike path. Looks great! Thanks. Not sure I'll actually do this trip, but planning is lots of fun. Riding from Normandy to the Cote d'Azur this year already - so maybe the summer after. I'm sure that the contrast between rural France and rural USA will be immense.

You will see a lot of cornfields that far south, but Peoria area has a lot of gravel, I have yet to explore. You can check gravelmap.com

    1) The Morris detour is tricky. The trail is washed out at Nettle Creek. I did see a video from the Zombie guy that shows a good workaround.
    2) The bumpy gravel part near Seneca is almost the worst I have seen. I know you have a gravel bike, but that kind of gravel defeated me completely. I was riding with bike bags, a little heavy.

Awesome video. I did the Cal Sag to Joliet portion today! What was the horn you use? I love that sound!

At the 35 minute mark you took a wrong turn into a private drive. I did exactly the same thing. It looked so much like a trail.

2 bottles of water (one with electrolytes), apple sauce and some natural power bars did the trick. :-)

Awesome 👌 .. is there tent camping allowed along the trail?

Actually there is! At Channahon and Gebhard Woods and permit needs to be obtained ahead of time!

There are a couple of spots right on the trail with camping signs. I think one is near Seneca.
