WOW! I owned a 54 that had the same paint job but it was a v8 with dual exhaust and overdrive. It was a Texas car and when I returned to the northeast, all were amazed with the lack of rust and corrosion it had. It was a 6 volt electrical system with a generator and large white wall tires. Brings back memories.

I appreciate when people care enough to go against the trends and build an original era correct engine, and era correct speed equipment is pretty cool too.

Good ol' trimmer tip..straighten a coat hanger hook end and use for a temp fitting holding parts in place nicely ..then install pin from the opposite side as u withdraw the hanger..no punch or hammer necessary,no holding tension against spring,allignment done..all vintage euro cars

JBugs has a replacement piller bottom you can order. Great job cleaning that tank, your method should have removed the rust from the sending unit screws on bottom side. To remove them heat the screws spray with Kano and let it cool, then repeat a couple of times. Grab each one with a needle nose vice grip and turn as you also turn with the Philips driver. Worked for me anyway. I used straight vinegar next time I will use your excellent method. Thanks

How much clr to vinegar did you use

I would change it to 12 volts and put in a 302 and c4. Really cool project. I love the body style.

Believe this or not i'm doing the same thing to mind

When fitting up my sending unit to the new tank, I had to bend the two aligning tabs on the sending unit inward because of the amazing Chinese quality control. Be careful of that, took us a while to figure it out
