- In this video I'll be installing 4 inch lowering blocks into the rear of my 1949 Ford Custom. Stick around for the next couple episodes, I’ll be lowering the front as well, and converting the it to power disc brakes! 1949-1953 Ford cars use the same chassis, so these parts should work on all models.
Thanks for watching,
Joey

Really did a great job installing those blocks
Like the video..
Looks good man can't wait to see the front lowered
Hey! Another Minnesota shoebox! These cars looks awesome dumped. Nice work man
Thanks! I actually subscribe to your channel haha! Going to be doing a similar pedal assembly soon
@@minnesotamotors it's great. I am really happy after installing the hanging brake setup. Yes you are adding more crap to the firewall, but the ease of servicing and the variety of components you can get with a traditional placement makes it worth the change.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch!
I enjoy your video I've got a 49 I'm about to start on so I'm trying to learn all I can on them
Awesome! Bout to do this to the 53!
Love the shoebox content, just subbed. BTW my folks bought one exactly like this new, only difference was it was a business coupe and had OD. I was 2 years old. 4 years later it took me to the 1st grade.
Looking forward to your next video on this car, she's looking great!
Good job Homie!
Great video. Wish I still had my 50 shoebox. Keep em coming👍🏻
Yah the same thing happened to me Hope I don’t have a flat.keep up the good work... Cheers
Looks good man. I’ll be doing the same to my 51 in another week or so.
haha that looks killer man!! love the content. Sweet shoebox
nice job
Badass man great video good attention to detail
Great video. Is it just me or did you put the angled shims the wrong way? 🤔
Cool ride bro you should be able to lift up the body with a bumper Jack
You can use a bottle jack or scissor jack between the axle housing and frame to push the rear down to max droop and stuff the wheel in. Wifes 49 will be running a 235/75-15 on a 15x8" rim in the rear. I have to do this to put the wheels on the rear of her car
I’ll have to try that next time I pull the wheels off
What is scrub line ?
I just did the 4" blocks on my '49 Club Coupe. It has the factory 16" wheels on it now. The lower shock bolt is way below the scrub line but the ubolts are good.im going to 15" wheels as soon as my tires get delivered (205/75r15) so my u bolts will also be below it.
That's the size tires I used
@@larryarnold2049 I didn't want to chance a flat on the road and fighting with the tire so I ordered 4" Jamco springs. Heres to hoping they hang down low enough
Nice man, are ya gonna flip the front spindles or get the lowering kit?
I have a shoebox central kit I’ll be installing in the next video!
I love it! No drive shaft rub on the floor pan?
You can see me drive it in the next video. It seemed like it was rubbing slightly at first, but it’s not anymore and I don’t see any marks on the driveshaft
eso pasa cuando no mides las cosas desde que enseñaste el tornillo ya se sabía que no hiba a entrenar.
If you bounce a little on the rear bumper it'll settle lower. Did you measure your scrub line? My 51 belair has 4" blocks and the u-bolt nuts are about an inch below the wheel lip. When you lower the front it'll raise the rear bumper and make the rear end look higher
It will be close. I’ll measure when I get the front down
I put 4 inch lowering blocks on my 49 also , used 235 x 15 with 6 inch aluminum wheels . If you place the jack under the Frame in front of the rear wheel the tire will go on .The rear wheel will drop its the axle.
@@ninja63639 my 49 2 door , I lowered rear 4 inches and 2 inch less coil springs in front, so the car sets a little lower in rear.
Did you add or change frame bump stops? My ‘50 hits hard over bumps in the road.
I didn't change them. An yes it does hit hard on bumps. My driveshaft rubs when I hit bumps too
looking good what about driveshaft clearance
There’s not much, rubs sometimes
i got a 53 ford sunliner with a mustang 5.0 drivetrain. recently the tranny blew so i had that rebuilt. had the car back for about an hour and a half and i smoked the rear end. will a 9" bolt right in or what do i need to get i guess is my question?
I believe a Maverick rear end is popular with these cars. But I don’t know if it bolts directly in, my car has the stock rear end
how wide are your blocks ?
They were designed for 2 inch wide leaf springs, I’d measure them for you, but the car is in storage right now
Believe this or not i'm doing the same thing to mind
I have a 55 customline that must have been lowered cos I saw big blocks like that on mine and I can’t get the fucking rear wheels out
Try a bumper jack that will lift the body up and that should let you take out the wheels
@@nathangibson564 tried that, didnt get enough clearance still sadly. i got the tire delated as much as i could and eventually got it out somehow. changed tire size and wheel size went a mich smaller profile and was able to get in a lot easier
