Lowering the Front of a 1949-1953 Ford 4 Inches!

- Several years ago I purchased a used lowering kit for my 1949 Ford Custom. In this video I finally install it! I lowered the car by installing 2 inch dropped uprights, 2 inch lowering springs, dropped shocks, and a camber kit. 1949-1953 Ford cars use the same chassis, so these parts should work on all models.
In the next video we’ll get the disc brakes installed and go for a test drive!
Please subscribe and give the video a thumbs up!
Thanks,
Joey

I had a "Shoebox" in1960 and I was quite happy with how it looked just as Henry Ford made it.!
You got to love the first time you lower the car off the jack and watch it just keep going. Haha. Looks awesome man! I'm looking forward to doing suspension on my shoebox this winter. These cars look so good slammed.
Great look!
I just bought a 53' mainline 6
Can't wait to start wrenching on it.
Nice! I'm going to take over a 49 Custom Fordor project that my dad couldn't finish before he passed. Lowering it like this and rebuilding the flathead will be mandatory! I'll stay tuned!
Looks good.....
Looks groovy man
Well, done, just bought a 51 business coupe I plan on baggin tryna learn all the ins and outs good vid car looks very good! 👍🏼
very cool video - I’m a 51 Merc guy and imagine there is probably a lot of crossover
Also, appreciate the ‘one man’ show stuff - many of us are doing it likewise!
Looks good brother!!! Cheers!
Super nice vid.....
50:s owner in Sweden with 4"in the back 2 in the front......
Keep em coming !

I have the v8 in my '49. I'm doing these same brackets so we'll see how it goes.
Edit...it sucked!!! I had to go in through the spring pocket to get to the nuts. They were between the inner crossmember and spring seat so it was almost impossible to get to them.
Très beau résultat, la hauteur de la suspension lui donne une ligne parfaite. Bon travail et bonjour de la France 😋
Merci!
Ford Astro van Springs also work pretty well.
Do you mean Aerostar springs? They give a 2.5 inch drop
@@minnesotamotors Yes it's been awhile since I installed them but they worked out great.
thanks for the content have you ever ran into a overheating problem for the inside 6? I can't seem to figure out on mine it has a brand new radiator but I havenchencked the the water pump
I overheated mine a few times before doing the radiator and water pump. It still seems to be a little hot to me. I’d like to build a fan shroud someday
@@minnesotamotors ya idk why but I ran a few test and nothing gives a pin point answer causing it to overheat, I just took the water pump off and didn't find anything unusual, and the oil isn't milky or anything, unless the radiator cap isn't sealing enough that could be the cause, it's a 4 row aluminum radiator
If you lower it, you should lose the steel wheels?
Just out of curiosity do you know of any performance intakes and exhaust for the flathead 6?
I know some were made back in the day. I think Red’s headers still sells a header. People also would combine truck and car manifolds for dual exhaust. I’d love to find some for this car someday
@@minnesotamotors awesome im new to shoeboxes so I've got a lot to learn thanks
Alguien sabe que centros son los rrines??? 5 en 114 o más o menos???
The center of the body.
How high off the ground?
The bottom of the rocker is about 4.5 inches from the ground
hey did you have any alignment issues with the lower control arm cuz of it being off and had to force it in? Did you get wear on the outside of your tire? I had the same issue with mine
I actually haven’t had the car aligned yet. I’ve put very few miles on it
@@minnesotamotors Please let me know as I am not sure if you car was involved in an accident or it was that common thing when they were build so quick on the assembly line.
@@user-xo5xl3wx1s I think my car was in an accident. The bumper and brackets were bent
@@minnesotamotors Interesting. Do you do your alignments or will you take it somewhere? please keep me updated I am very curious if that affected your alignment. I will be looking at mine this weekend
@@user-xo5xl3wx1s I will take it to a shop. Right now it is still in winter storage, so it’s gonna be a while before I get to it
I hope you're not relying on just a jack to support the car when you're working under it. Use good quality jack stands to support all that weight just to be extra safe in the future. I've never worked on anything underneath with only a jack for support. They have been known to fail.
Thank you for your concern. I used jackstands the entire time the car was in the air. They are visible in the video, and I even mentioned removing them when I lowered the car to the ground
I mean I can see the jack stands clear as day throughout the video
@@dustydavos8256 Cataracts have made my vision not as clear as it used to be.
Can I buy this video
Got a 53 myself and will embark on this stuff this spring. What disc brake conversion kit and what master cylinder did you use? I love the look of your car all finished up and slammed. Pure sex.
I used an Auto City Classic kit, I have another video on my channel with the install
@@minnesotamotors Thanks sir. I stumbled upon that video when I subbed to the channel. Hope to see some more on your shoebox soon!
Sorry to say, it now looks like the front end is completely wore out.
