Xr200r Restoration Custom Build part 4!!
Have a 84 XR200 RFVC. Bought in fair cond runs smokey on startup cleaned up okay. Getting harder to find. Later models went back to 2 valves
Heck yeah buddy
I've got an 86 XR250R.. sometimes I get the urge to bring back to life. It's just been sitting.
You should! It’s. Great bike and year. Can’t go wrong with an xr
How does the power compare between the two models?
The xr250 has a lot of torque which is fun the 250f feels very smooth when accelerating. I’d say you feel faster in the 250f but both have a similar top speed
this has to much power..forget a liquid cooled 450
lol of course
Have the 84 200 RFVC. Duel carb bought in fair cond. Cleaned up great. Little smokey. Play bike
Of all the 200’s I’ve never ridden one but I’d like to. I bet there’s more power with the 4 valve
@@SubscibeBikeGiveaway in original cond and 40yo. A few mech. gremlins Amazing it's still ran Considering had no oil in the motor / air filter was weetbix.
I watched the entire video for the put together and torque specs.
Thanks for tuning in we appreciate it. Hope it helped!
how would i go about putting a bigger tire in the rear i have the stock rims
Stock rear is 17 inches so you would need a 86-89 xr250 rim to move up to 18 inches. That would be a direct bolt on. You can also use a 90-95 but welding is required
@@SubscibeBikeGiveaway thank you
Hey there, someone looking to sell me their 2015 crf230f for about 2,300. Are these good reliable long lasting. Good value for that?
That is a great price for the year and bike. You’ll get plenty of hours out of that motorcycle and the parts rebuild. The engine are extremely affordable about $55 for a top end kit you can easily do it by watching a video on UA-cam, which will save you even more money on labor.
It sounds pretty good.
Thanks man!
I got a 1995 Honda xr 200 r am just getting the top end rebuilt done tomorrow just waiting on the cam chain tomorrow morning then time to hit the trails this has been my favourite bike I have ever owned definitely worth buying I got mine for 1300$ so pretty reasonable price for a decent bike for sure
That’s great to hear! Enjoy the riding!
Ive owned a xr 250 and a 400 and both were solid bikes plenty of pulling power and will go almost eny were
Heck yeah typical Honda low end torque
Le da el carburador de la xr 200 a la xr 200r?
Yes it does
@@SubscibeBikeGiveaway a la mia no, es de 1984 con dos salidas de carburador, que recomiendas? buscar algun carburador doble garganta o hacer una tubera con reduccion de 2 salidas a 1?
Is there a direct swap to a better shock for 2000-2002 bikes, that you know of? Great videos, very informative for us xr200 guys who don't have a clue 🙌
Thanks for watching we appreciate it! Direct swap years would be 1986-89 xr250r shock. Or you can do the 1985-91 xr200r shock swap in. Both bolt on but you need to make a mount for the canister
Apple's and oranges! Should have at least had both within a few years of each other.
I disagree. No changes on the 200 from 1986-2002 excluding 1985 with the engine (4 valve) and 1986-91 suspension. The 1986-89 xr250 is closer in likeness due to no rear disc break till 90.
I own the exact same bike. Very similar situation. Original owner never rode it. 377 original miles. I put new tires, chain & sprockets, all fluids changed. Runs great. I need to do the complete exhaust system upgrade, along with a sprocket change, re-jetting and go from there. Stage 2 hot cam has been recommended also. Nice bike! #TEAMHONDA 🏁🤘
Thanks for the comment! The bike is a powerhouse
Glad you mentioned the 250 not being able to even bump start with a dead battery, hadn’t thought of that
That is the one sad thing about fuel injection.
The 250 looks great. I also love the Yamaha XT250
I rode a ttr250 last year that Is a highly underrated trail bike. Definitely fun to ride and has good balance. The crf250f has a few benefits but is heavy and the seat is not my favorite
The XR200r is a 6 speed. Always was from 1979 to 2002. Not sure why you say it isn't?
If you count neutral I suppose
@@SubscibeBikeGiveaway It has 6 forward gears + neutral. A 5 speed ATC trans can be swapped in though, that's the only way yours would be a five speed
I am going to be 81 yrs old soon and will get a new honda crf250f.
It’s a great purchase, my grandpa loves his. I would recommend the seat concepts soft seat foam replacement!
Didn't lubrication the piston and rings and cylinder??
We always use a paint brush and oil to lightly lubricate the cylinder prior to installing the piston.
@@SubscibeBikeGiveaway cool gotcha do you guys fix other people's motorcycles or is it just a hobby of yours good job guys Jesse
Starting your bike in the Winter is not a good idea. You actually bring more moisture into the engine.
People ride during The winter months I don’t see an issue with it.
@SubscibeBikeGiveaway Riding allows the engine to warm up and remove any vapor. Idling in your garage only encourages the production of eater vapor and condensation internally. Ride your ride though. Cheers.
Hi , where can I order the new head ? Could you tell the part number? Thanks
I bought mine on Motorsport just type in your year and model the use the OEM parts page
Hoping grandpa is better soon. There is wrenching and riding to do! ❤
Thanks Brother we’re looking at July before he’s probably able to get back out on the trail
You really need to compare an 1986 XR 250R to 1986 XR 200R.
Pretty much 4 vs 2 valve again and a disc break on the 250
This is aweomse! I have an XR200 looking to more or less do the same. I noticed you mentioned the xr250 forks is just bolt on. Im assuming just the forks, no need for tripple clamp mod or anything? and the xr200 wheel axles fit right in?
If you’re looking for bolt on buy 1986 through 1989 XR 250, swing arm rear rim/ front rim, forks, and triple trees. If you would like to do a little bit of extra work, I would recommend the 1995 XR 250 and down to 1990 swing arm fork, triple trees, and rims that will give you disc brakes. The only thing I would say you have to buy is 1986 through 89 linkage that way the offset works when you go to board together you will have to do some welding to get the disc break in the rear to work properly.
Nice riding area!
It’s a great place! Thanks for tuning in!
I'll be reviewing this when I eventually get to do my own build. Could I message you with some questions?
Absolutely if you have any questions, feel free to give me a shout. If you check out the other build video that might be helpful as well. Kind of shows everything in detail.
Thank you for showing us all 3 together, 4" makes a huge difference! Did you just replace the main jet on the PZ30 or idle and Main? Just sourced one as my original PD is toast.
I replaced both the main jet, and the idle jet runs really nice!
@@SubscibeBikeGiveaway Cheers guys, having a carb nightmare mare!
How do I win the bike
Just Sub to the channel
cool project and I love old XR's but I honestly don't understand the point of this build
The point was to do what Honda would not. Put quality parts on a bike that was skimped on after 1991
@mschumaker1 They say air-cooled motors are play bikes but I say differ. Toys constantly require being replaced or repaired. The full on race bikes are the Toys. Sir, the point is the fact he restored something real and not a Toy grenade.
Nice bike! I'm wondering how is it for tall people? I'm looking to buy something like this from the early 90's late 80's, 250cc 4-stroke, but i'm over 190cm, so i want something higher. Also looking at the Honda XL, Yamaha XT. Kawa KLR, but there is no real chance to test them, pretty rare nowdays.
Great question I am 6’1 so it’s not a huge bike but you can ride it comfortably at my height.
just curious if the crf230f share the same size of overhauling gaskets with the xr200??
Great question! From what I’ve seen the gaskets are very similar. I don’t think I’ve ever tried to swap between the two bikes but honestly the bore is the same. The stroke is different, so I don’t see why the gasket wouldn’t work, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Unless you’re in dire need to get a bike back together and you only have one kit and I guess you could try it.
I HAVE A LONG TRAVEL 01 WITH PISTON/CAM/ 5 OZ OFF FLYWHEEL, YSS SHOCK ....IT IS A BAD MOFO IN THE WOODS TRULY ENJOYABLE TO RIDE/RACE
Sounds awesome!
The swingarm angle looks extreme. What year XR200R linkage did you use? The early (1986 up until the short travel late models with the welded non-adjustable rear shock. It seems like the earky linkage would be best.
So my plan is to add a lowering link and 1986-89 links. Currently running a 95 250 shock and 96 xr200 links
Thanks. That makes sense to correct the geometry.@@SubscibeBikeGiveaway
Hi, so I'm 16 yrs old going for a 1st bike . I'm almost 6" My older Brother is 6.2" he just bought a xr400 his 1st bike and my Dad has him in 3 days riding great . Do you think I'd be screwing up buying a stock 200 ? Or do I need a xr250 ? thanks
Great question. I’ve seen every size and age ride big bikes. The 400 is definitely not a beginner bike but if you’re a quick learner you can grow into it. Personally a nice xr250r is a great bike to learn on. Being confident is key if your not confident on the 400 buy a 250
Yes 2 days i have my youngest at 16 yrs old riding on dirt track , after a few hours learning the clutch , gears and brakes . :) All is well both my Sons are riding xr400's for their first bikes . Cost wise we couldn't have pulled it off anyother way . Now to get busy on that trailer we paid 140$ for lol. Get it ready for riding in the spring . Thx
@@SubscibeBikeGiveaway My nephew, at the time was 16 and he had me buy the 02' XR250R. I already had a CRF230. I gave it my all to convince him to let me buy the 230F. However, his friends had more influence over him than I, telling him he needed no less than a 250cc bike. To make this short he quickly found the XR250R had less Torque and slower in a drag race through the first 5 gears, required an electric starter seeing it would not start once dropped or when it got hot and a pure night mare on single tracks due to it being 276lbs. CRF230 at the time, was uncorked/jetted with a 14 tooth counter sprocket, Drill spark arrestor and stock header. With the FMF header I have on it today and foot peg relocation offering more room to shift the 230F, the 250 isn't on the 230F level. Today he wants to trade it for a XR200 or CRF230.
QUESTION ; ARE YOU STILL MAKING NEW VIDS ?
We are, unfortunately my grandpa has cancer so we’re on a bit of a break.
NORTHERN WISCONSIN HELLO > NEW SUB ...
Thank you!
think about doing a maintenance/repair video on a 230cc trail bike their very common - at least were I live.
Hello thanks for joining in! We are in the process of rebuilding a crf230f. The motor rebuild is live more to come
Quick correction, the 250 is a 5spd. Not sure why Honda went with that but still love the bike!
It’s a great bike. Would like some better suspension and seat
Very cool set up. I love it. , I’m seeing lots of Honda CRF 250s being part it out but they’re in a 2000 to 2006 range. Do you know if that swing arm will still fit and forks? Thanks.
Off hand I’m not sure. But if you measure the triple tree and shock length you can probably see if it will
Probably be easier to make motor mounts for a cr roller
2:18 "The 200 is a bit more torquey". Same size piston, 230 has a longer stroke, which also means more displacement. Unlikely that the 200 is somehow more torquey. I have owned both, and the 230 has a midrange that the 200 never dreamed of. Sadly the extra power of the 230 is pretty much canceled out by the extra weight of the 230. As far as I know, the XR185 and all XR200s have 6 speed gearboxes.
Thanks for your comment. I have owned a plethora of 230’s and your right the extra weight definitely slows the power increase. The gearing on the 200 is much more torquey in my opinion. The 230 does feel faster with the 6th gear. The 200 only has 5 gears 85 and up.
The difference in weight between the two is 15 lbs does that really make a noticeable difference?
will a not properly attached exhaust cause my bike to bogg past 3000
Honestly there’s a lot that can cause bog. Air leak or even a carb adjustment issue. Personally I have yet to see a pipe cause a bog issue unless it’s clogged
Did you know those old honda pro links needed a stupid stiff spring rate? I forget the exact number but its like 5kg spring on new and like 9kg or more on the older ones. At least it was on early pro link CRs. That made the shock work harder with damping it. So in my opinion i like newer pro linkd as long as they are set up right. And the grease fittings are great. But on my xr they put it right where it gets wiped off by a rock
Good points for sure. I have had to drill and replace sever fittings for that very reason.
