Good looking yes no doubt about that. As a matter of fact the best looking but the motors were far from indestructible actually motors were bad. RFVC had a top end problems valve springs were too soft and valves were easily roachable. Suzuki DR Yamaha TT/XT and Kawasaki KLR DOHC water cooled were all better than Honda those years.
@@SubscibeBikeGiveaway a la mia no, es de 1984 con dos salidas de carburador, que recomiendas? buscar algun carburador doble garganta o hacer una tubera con reduccion de 2 salidas a 1?
I've had both and the 250 is my favorite , but the 200 was super fun when I was a kid I rode it all day for a few years , fantastic bikes with reliability that is not rivald to this day
Do you think a 2004 xr200 would be a good first bike for someone who weights 140 lbs and is 5’8? I also wanna take it on some pretty rocky/bumpy trails, do you think it would be capable of that?
I believe the last year of production was 2002 for the xr200r. The suspension leaves a lot to be desired especially if it’s wore out. So if it’s really rocky you might have trouble bouncing all over. On the other hand it’s softer so you’ll take less abuse. I’d say your weight/ height is perfect for it and you’ll enjoy the torque
@@SubscibeBikeGiveaway you are correct it was listed as 2004 but it is a 2002 and it takes quite a few kicks but it gets going and 6th gear is crazy fast but the suspension is definitely bouncy which was difficult learning how to get into first because i can never expect the the rear end dropping. Overall it could definitely use some tlc but i love the bike
I own an 86 XR200 and an 85 XR250. I’ve had them for 30 years and they both still run great. The 200 sits much lower and has a little less torque. I agree the 250 is much harder to kick hot or cold. The 200 fires right up after two or three kicks every time.
That’s been our experience, both great bikes and a lot of fun to ride. I think the 200s easier on maintenance and just as much fun as the 250 but if you’re a bigger guy and you want more power, the 250s a great bike.
I just got a 81' xr200r. It sat for over a decade and mice used the carb as a toilet for many of those years by the amount of dried molasses like gunk inside.. 6hr in an ultrasonic cleaner, oil change, timing adjustment, throttle cable, petcock valve, air filter, new chain n sprocket. now its firing up 1st kick! Blown away a 40+yr neglected bike can run that well
Did you know those old honda pro links needed a stupid stiff spring rate? I forget the exact number but its like 5kg spring on new and like 9kg or more on the older ones. At least it was on early pro link CRs. That made the shock work harder with damping it. So in my opinion i like newer pro linkd as long as they are set up right. And the grease fittings are great. But on my xr they put it right where it gets wiped off by a rock
Is that a Cobra exhaust can on that 250? I worked for Cobra back when those were relevant. Other than the one I have on my XR350R here, I’ve not seen one in years. Cool.
I have a 02' XR 200r it's a blast for the age. it has jumped timing before I got it. I put a new crankshaft timing sprocket in it and a cam chain and after market carb started right up. Got my son a syx 50cc dirt bike for we can go ride. I can't wait
250 will not fit with out a ton of fabrication. Honestly wouldn’t be worth the effort. A 200 motor would fit a 250 frame with some custom brackets. I’ve seen that done before
I disagree. No changes on the 200 from 1986-2002 excluding 1985 with the engine (4 valve) and 1986-91 suspension. The 1986-89 xr250 is closer in likeness due to no rear disc break till 90.

Those old XRs are near to indestructable and good looking bikes, very reliable and easy to maintain.
Francisco, I agree the xr always had a great classic look.
@@anthonynicholich9654 the 250 had its faults engine wise and so does the 200. but they can be fixed with some upgrades.
Good looking and easy to maintain but the 4valve RFVC engines were not reliable.
Compre una xr vieja de 1984 y que vuelva a funcionar me costo 400k$ moto belleza
Ive owned a xr 250 and a 400 and both were solid bikes plenty of pulling power and will go almost eny were
Heck yeah typical Honda low end torque
tks for information...my favourite these days is a xlr250 from 1982. Front Disk brakes would be nice - is there a kit to upgrade ?
Check out our custom xr200r build!
You really need to compare an 1986 XR 250R to 1986 XR 200R.
Pretty much 4 vs 2 valve again and a disc break on the 250
What is the rear wheel size on your 1988 xr200r ?
The rear wheel on anything 86 and up stock is 17 inches. I bought a xr250 18 inch and bolted it on my custom build.
Le da el carburador de la xr 200 a la xr 200r?
Yes it does

I owned an xr250l and I was a fool for selling it. i would
hindsight is always 20:20 ive done the same
The XR range still has a massive following, awesome bikes
John, couldn’t agree more thanks for tuning in!
always grease the swing arm bearing, linkage bearings, wheel ,front and rear, steering head bearings. I don't trust the dealers ever!
The more points the grease the better!

I've got an 86 XR250R.. sometimes I get the urge to bring back to life. It's just been sitting.
You should! It’s. Great bike and year. Can’t go wrong with an xr
@vegasxventures wanna unload it, I need a twin

Honesty every Honda is like that with just a little care it will run! Glad your got yours back up and running
The one about the xr200 is they have a decompression valve hooked to the kick start , smaller riders have no problems starting it .
Both bikes have an auto de-comp but he 250 has an extra lever for manual use.
You mean someone would want my 250 forks? I put 600 forks on my 250.
Definitely. There are always worse forks out there. The 200 are especially terrible

Well I’ve sold some bikes I wish I still had. But there’s always another bike out there

I learned on a xr80 moved to the 200 then a 400 and 650 all great bikes
Back when they actually put seats on bikes.

Good points for sure. I have had to drill and replace sever fittings for that very reason.

It’s not hard to start by any means. My grandpa is 72 so it’s more age than anything.

"Which is better . . . the XR200R or the XR250R ?"
A question that nobody asked.
Ever.
Depends on who’s riding. If one is more fun for a certain individual then they should pick that bike. Both are great.
Sorry Bud the bike on the left is an 87. 86 XRs had gold rims and orange frames.
Maybe for Cr but not the xr 250.
Apple's and oranges! Should have at least had both within a few years of each other.
