Had both. (For my 5'2" wife) She loved the XR-200, but could hardly start it. We got her a real good priced CRF230, I re-did the bike over, added a linkage shortening kit, and a Gore Tex Tuff seat with gel foam. Red did suspension and re-valved rear shock. Put a rev limiter on, BBR exhaust, and it's been about 10 years and the thing runs AWESOME! (But she still misses her XR)
XR200R all the way, I'm trying to do some kind of update to my girlfriends XR200 (front disc brake, better forks, a better monoshock) as it is it would kick any CRF230 ass in straight line, but the stock suspension sucks.

Honestly the 250 suspension is a great upgrade check out our custom build might help you!
