I just found your stuff, and it’s really fascinating! It’s also just nice to see someone watch the show after the nightmare times, since they just pick up on some more of the references, which is really nice since you notice things like the nightmare time theme. I mean the show is called "The Guy who *Didn't* like Musicals," past tense.

My personal interpretation of Pauls' soliloquy starting with "I've never been happy..." until "But what will I let in if I Let it Out?" is the ONLY Non-Diegetic number (or part of a number) in the entire show. In short, he's not *actually* singing this in front of the meteor. He's finally accepted the fact that he's been trapped in a musical, so everything around him pauses for him to sing his feelings whilst he struggles against the spores. Now, knowing the way the musical zombie virus thing operates, it's entirely possible that the people who have been taken over let him have his moment this way and it is diegetic, but the way they stop singing at "Let it--" and then join him when he says "Out" seems to me more like this soliloquy happens in the middle of him fighting against the spores, inside his head, rather than as an actual phsyical moment of him starting to sing while giving into the spores.

I’m actually super late to the Ride the Cyclone train but one thing I love about the ending of this show is that they are all in their crash poses from the beginning except they are smiling instead of screaming. Life is a roller coaster and all we can do is try to enjoy the ride. 🥲

Just from a brief scroll through of the comment section i didn't see it posted but someone else might have, I wonder if they had Corey in this Particular scene as a football player not really even try to sing because of the Stereotype of Jocks commonly being kinda Dense and usually only talented at one thing, The only counter argument would be the other guy (Forgot his name) Belting, But commonly some football players do both but they are the "Weaker" Ones of the social ladder, Just like The one not played by corey was earlier in the musical.

So a fun little bit of acting that Kim Whalen does in the scene that happens before this is actually oddly accurate in a sense. It's just accurate to something that seems off-putting or unnatural to some people. Tom has barely had a year to process his wife's death, and he sees her as a victim of his own failure to react in time. Of course he'd be extremely emotional, since it's not only his responsibility that the crash happened, but he sees it as entirely his fault that Jane died and that Tim lost his mother. Becky, on the other hand, lived through the absolute hell of an abusive partner who tried to control her and separate her from everyone she ever cared about. Her problem was steeped in a person outside of herself trying to hurt her for one reason or another and was happening long, LONG before anything happened to Tom. When people live through that kind of thing, it's often easy to grow hardened. You almost stop seeing it as bad because you're trying to make it work. Your brain starts to justify their behavior until a point where it becomes totally normalized. Her lack of reaction isn't bad acting (at least in my mind) but rather portraying the fact that she normalized her ex-husband's awful behavior and can talk about it without breaking down despite knowing logically that it was awful and painful. There's also a point where she gets more emotional as it gets to more recent events, like her fighting back and having to kill her partner. It's both a relief--mostly because she's not in danger anymore--but also a tragedy because she didn't want to kill him before he brought a knife into it. Extreme trauma will do messed up stuff to people's brains.

This song reminds me of Murder from Jekyll & Hyde, I love it so much.

Ok but is it Rick Moranis from Honey I Shrunk the Kids or Rick Moranis from Little Shop of Horrors, do you think? Because I got Moranis vibes too but because of the genre, I thought they might be intentionally invoking LSoH in a few places throughout the production. It’s not a 1:1 comparison but I wonder if anyone else thought the same thing?
