Btw, in one of Starkid's livestreems they were talking about how in one of their shows, Jeff instead of Paul said "His name is Steve"! And they were all laughing that who the hell is Steve?! And Jeff said he had no idea. He just forgot the name of the main character and said a random name🤣🤣🤣
it was actually nearer the end of the show that this happened i think (spoilers below!) . . it’s during “let him come”, he sang “steve’s a-coming” instead of paul’s a-coming and poor nick lang had to edit it out. you can tell if you really look and listen to that part because his face gets blurry & the audio switches to being more jaime in the mix 😂
I think Mariah voice is one of the first reason why i was so excited for you to cover this show. Fun fact Mariah was supposed to play Lex in Black Friday before she was cast in Mean girl. It's so strange to think about it, she and Angela are so different. Dream or nightmare ...think about the Implications ! ( it's a joke later in the show)

Black Friday, to me, had the most heart. You could really connect with each characters emotions. In contrast, I think TGWDLM has the catchiest songs. I feel like you could easily sing along after listening to them once or twice. I'd love to hear your opinion after you've listened to some more of the show, but get ready for a great time! Since you're watching the next scene right after I'm going to assume you've deduced that Paul is not a professor. "I'm ready to go!" Already a true Starkid fan, making references that you don't even know yet! For an idea of what it was like when this show was released, as Starkid fans we were totally unfamiliar with Jon and Mariah, and had only known Robert from Twisted, which came out a full five years before this one. This was also the first show without Joe Walker, who you won't meet until you're finished with Hatchetfield. (For the pedants out there, I'm counting the Summer Season as one, because no one was in both shows)

I know your only on tgwdlm but man I can’t wait for nerdy prudes, that was my first hatchetfield show lol, The summoning is a really fun one from it lol!! I also hope you atleast consider doing the nightmare times!! They add a lot of info for some of the background cast, and has some really good songs (not to mention creepy moments!)
This show has some of my favorite choreography ever, it's so fun! I guess Michael Jackson's Thriller dance originated or at least popularized those zombie claw hands and pop culture has been referencing them ever since -- I can't think of an earlier example than his. The colorful rectangles in the background remind me of Saul Bass's work. The set and costume design to this show in general always gave me vaguely 1950/60s vibes and I don't know if that's intentional or if I'm just projecting because the story is a throwback to those old monster movies. I mean clearly it's not actually set in that time period but I think there's something kind of retro about the general feel. Black Friday on the other hand reminded me of the 80s but I couldn't tell you why, exactly. Maybe the extreme consumerism lol On a side note I love your braids!

I’ll definitely have to research Saul Bass, I’m not too familiar but I definitely get the classic ‘so terrible it’s funny’ horror thing here! Thought provoking!! The 80s vibes could definitely be heard in the music. Unsure if I caught any in story line. Double side note- thanks for the bit about my braids! I was actually self conscious about them before filming! So sweet!🥹

You should listen to the studio recording of the soundtrack to Black Friday to hear them sing not sick. It's a big difference. I'm 95% sure Robert Manion was for some reason not there The day they recorded it and Jeff is singing his parts, but they actually have a surprisingly similar voice.

Im so excited to watch this with you. TGWDLM is maybe my favorite starkid show period. This kicked off my obsessive love of Jeff Blim. Btw buckle up because this is VERY much the Jeff blim show. He really carries the show and does an amazing job of it. The song jeff sings (2nd song after this) is my favorite. Glad youre going to go a bit faster because that's the video I'm maybe looking forward to the most.
Woo! One of my absolute favorites. The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals is a comedy gold concept, and Jon Matteson was *the* Guy to play that Guy (I enjoyed typing that sentence 😂). Gonna be fun seeing you watch him. And the various bops in the show, ofc.
Ashley, Robert Manion is no longer with Starkid as he sexually harrassed a member of the band during Black Friday and said some racist and transphobic things on social media and insulted Team Starkid after they tried to get him help so he could redeem himself. We try not to mention him in the fandom anymore. Obviously you'll be listening to him sing, but... yeah, it's best to separate the artist from the art in this case. Sorry if that brings down the mood, I just thought you should know.
I'm not excusing what Robert did but I do feel like some people talk about him in a similar vein to serial abusers who should be in jail but aren't because they're famous when it's not really like that. Like you alluded to, Starkid was still willing to leave a door open for him to return once he got some workplace sensitivity training and fixed his behavior. I remember thinking Starkid handled it very professionally and Robert also had a good response at the time, but he's obviously gone on to burn that bridge and squander whatever goodwill people had left for him. This is more of a general commentary than a reply to your comment specifically I guess. Just feels like every time someone tries to discuss Robert's performances there are people who don't think you should give him any praise ever when the fact remains that he's obviously very talented. That's part of why it's such a shame that his lack of professionalism (both the harassment and the way he's talked about Starkid after being fired) got in the way of that.
Hmm this is disappointing indeed. What a terrible bridge he burned. It breaks my heart to see young actors with so much potential ruin their careers in this way. Thanks for this information. I really hope he creates a redemption arch for us soon. He’s very talented
@@liquid_pig he’s come what I call a bad person purely just from all his actions and choices from comments he did make about trans people and of course the harassment and how he then went on to like you said say things negatively about starkid in response to them trying to be professional about the whole thing. It’s just the fact that he refuses to actually change or hold his self accountable and I feel like it’s important for people coming into it to know ahead of time so they don’t get disappointed later….or on social media not understand why people completely block him out now and of course why after the first nightmare time he’s just gone forever and recast

Ashley, Robert Manion is no longer with Starkid as he sexually harrassed a member of the band during Black Friday and said some racist and transphobic things on social media and insulted Team Starkid after they tried to get him help so he could redeem himself. We try not to mention him in the fandom anymore. Obviously you'll be listening to him sing, but... yeah, it's best to separate the artist from the art in this case. Sorry if that brings down the mood, I just thought you should know.
Yea I told her that when she was watching Black Friday that you can like his character but he’s a very bad person who was removed
I'm not excusing what Robert did but I do feel like some people talk about him in a similar vein to serial abusers who should be in jail but aren't because they're famous when it's not really like that. Like you alluded to, Starkid was still willing to leave a door open for him to return once he got some workplace sensitivity training and fixed his behavior. I remember thinking Starkid handled it very professionally and Robert also had a good response at the time, but he's obviously gone on to burn that bridge and squander whatever goodwill people had left for him.
This is more of a general commentary than a reply to your comment specifically I guess. Just feels like every time someone tries to discuss Robert's performances there are people who don't think you should give him any praise ever when the fact remains that he's obviously very talented. That's part of why it's such a shame that his lack of professionalism (both the harassment and the way he's talked about Starkid after being fired) got in the way of that.
Hmm this is disappointing indeed. What a terrible bridge he burned. It breaks my heart to see young actors with so much potential ruin their careers in this way. Thanks for this information. I really hope he creates a redemption arch for us soon. He’s very talented
@@liquid_pig he’s come what I call a bad person purely just from all his actions and choices from comments he did make about trans people and of course the harassment and how he then went on to like you said say things negatively about starkid in response to them trying to be professional about the whole thing. It’s just the fact that he refuses to actually change or hold his self accountable and I feel like it’s important for people coming into it to know ahead of time so they don’t get disappointed later….or on social media not understand why people completely block him out now and of course why after the first nightmare time he’s just gone forever and recast
@@singwithAshley it’s been a few years now and he kinda just at this point moved on like nothing happened which is part of why we all feel the way we do. They’re not going to bring him back at this point either way because they’d lose a large portion of their fans respect. All of his roles have been given to Joey Jeff and even one of the writers who I know I know his name but it has left my brain entirely
