Fun thing about this song, it kinda becomes almost a leitmotif for anytime the police show up within the Hatchetfield universe. If you go to the scene in Black Friday where Ethan and Hannah are at the movie theater, the piano starts to play the intro to this song when the mall cop enters the scene. A lot of the music in this show is used that way

@@kyler133nightmare time theme is in all 3 of the normal musicals, not notably in not your seed, which is where both it and the name originate, so I think it should be fine, besides the nightmare time theme song ironically doesn't include the notes

the whole walking through the audience was added because the cop uniforms took a bit to get into. also,small detail but the cop hats fit all of them differently like mariah’s is falling down her head a bit while jeff’s hat had a slit in the back because it was too small. 🤣
The dialog in that bit was all improvised too
the choreography of this one is infectious (pun intended). whenever i hear it, i physically have to do jazz hands

i notice your seeming confusion at the "didnt think about the implications" line (calling back to paul begging emma to think about the implications at the coffee shop before it all went down, because saying the world is becoming a musical sounds rightfully more comical than scary) The implication becomes more apparent in the horror aspects as the show goes on. But it is on a technical level akin to something like the body snatchers, or any zombie apocolypse. In this case the zombies maintaining personality traits that they had prior, that are boiled down to a more simplicitic "musical character" version of themselves.
So if zombies still could talk to you (and sing to you) about what they want or how they feel, but it's not truly "them".
The start of the body horror!! This moment, the coffee scene, and a couple of upcoming scenes are what turned me onto loving this musical. For context, I really don’t like most musicals, but this one is so interesting because they actually made the songs diegetic and not just stuff that stops the plot in its tracks to voice things that are happening internally or metaphorically. Here, singing is a threat and everyone reacts appropriately. Plus they also make fun of so many cliches and it’s hilarious

Also watching this one after Black Friday just makes you think about all of the characters there who are probably already infected too.
For example they mentioned the hospital being lost so that doesn’t give good news for Becky. Just imagining all that makes this just kinda sadder.

Pretty sure Mariah is listed as a mezzo, but I also don't know vocal ranges well.
This song is so fun. It gets stuck in my head easily and I find myself dancing to it in public, lol.
I initially got more of a less-nasally Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors with Charlotte but I love the Dorothy call out, her accent was very exaggerated there tho and always makes me chuckle.
I love when Jeff writes songs with a jazzy influence. Underneath all the humor of the lyrics, they're just groovy tunes!
hehe nice, we're getting into the Scary part of the show now! Im not sure if charlotte is specifically Dorothy but she def has a serious case of Judy Garland-its, and rn Sam has no brains, Ted has no heart, and Bill has no courage so it works well lol. Really love Jeffs voicework as Sam in this show, his numbers are some of my favourite to sing since am in that alto type range myself

15:54 I always find the Presbyterian and Methodist rivalry/divide funny. It seems to pop up in random places. Theres a similar bit in the Musical TV show Schmigadoon! on AppleTv (a must watch - it’s absolutely fantastic).

This and one of the future scenes are my favorite in the whole show because of the Charlotte-Ted-Bill-Paul-Emma dynamic. Hands down my favorite group of characters in a Starkid show, something about them all together and how they all play off each other is so good. Cracks me up and they just fit together so well.
you DEFINITELY need to queue up Twisted after this musical, it really showcases Jeff Blim and Dylan Saunders both, I know they're your favorite!

If you (Ashley) are a fan of Mariah's dark low notes, I'm sure you'd enjoy Mariah's cover of World Burn from a few years ago. It's the one that got her spotted by the producers of the Mean Girls tour she was cast in. I don't mean necessarily for a reaction, just for your own enjoyment. 😊 Even though she makes a point in the comments section of saying that her singing of that song improved with practice ~ it's still pretty heavenly. Btw I'm team her being an alto but idk, your the expert. 😂

This is my favourite musical and I'm mildly obsessed with it, so here are some small moments I have noticed in my hundreds of rewatches:
2:30 - Paul randomly bringing up his special interest in a near-death situation is unironically very relatable - there's also a non-canon audition on UA-cam where he talks about how he can write a list of 100 things wrong with a movie he has no strong feelings about because he likes movies so much, but that doesn't make them bad because there's probably also 100 things wrong with him, and if that isn't the most relatable thing
3:47 - The fans encouraging Ashley to join in our Hatchetfield obsession, 2024, colourized.
4:38 - The fact that of every possible option for an insult, Ted goes with "Noodle"
6:07 - Emma calling out to Paul when he goes to pull Charlotte out of the way. That's just cute and easy to miss
8:15 - Jeff Blim's angry shoulders
8:18 - Mariah's cop character in this is supposedly named Doug according to Mariah herself
10:53 - Paul trying to copy their dance moves and blend in??? Maybe?? Someone help this man
10:55 - Ted absolutely living for this one cop's dance moves despite the whole situation

I get a mix of Hollywood Golden Age actresses from Jamie Lyn's Charlotte. Judy G but also a lot of Blanche Dubois from Streetcar Named Desire.

I just rewatched the entire musical with a friend who doesn't know starkid (I blame you for causing this rewatch btw :P), this is one of mine and now also my friend's favourite songs. And start of the blood and guts :D

Hey! You should reallllyy react after this one to their newest show Nerdy Prudes Must Die. Def one of my favorites. I would also suggest watching Nightmare Time on your own if you are interested in the lore of Hatchetfield. Definitely not song heavy but still good!
PS: I know you do musicals that have videos with them, but if you ever just wanted to listen to the songs I highly suggest Epic the Musical. It isn’t fully released, just coming out in sagas, but it is so good 😭
