I solved a problem on a FZJ80 Land Cruiser that hardly anyone will care about! Seat back cushion
Переглядів 489Рік тому
I picked up a pair of 93-94 manual seats from the junkyard but they were a bit rougher than I thought. I'm capable of swapping the cushions and cleaning the fabric, but when I saw that the seat back cushion was "NLA" (no longer available, I decided to work on a solution.

Great video. Thanks
I have a 2005 Toyota Tundra SR5 Double Cab I bought New. 10 years ago I got a letter from Toyota about Frame rust. I brought my Truck To My Local Dealership where I bought the truck. They gave me a loaner Vehicle. The next morning I got a call From the dealership. They said that the frame Was Like Brand New and Didn't need a Frame. I told them I Am a mechanic and I always pressure washed the underside of the truck in the winter. They Said The mechanics were Impressed How Well the frame was and that they would spray the coating on the frame. I got the truck back . When I used the turn signals the relay cycled fast which means one of the lights is not working. When Checking They forgot to hook Up One of the wire harnesses . Also I checked and saw they scratched the cab of the truck when they reinstalled the bed of the truck which they removed to spray the coating on the frame. 2 years later the coating started pealing off and rust was on the frame which was not on the frame before they applied the coating. That was Proof they didn't clean the frame before applying the coating which sealed in any contamination that was on the frame before the coating. That Dealer Destroyed My Truck. Before Bringing The Truck To The Dealer The Frame Was Like New. I Should Never have Had That Recall Done. The Frame is All Rotted Now And Does NOT Pass State Safety Inspection.
Why, at 80,000 miles , did they they have to rebuild the motor
Good question - but likely mistreatment or overuse given the location of origin.
How about the aircon works some times but not other times, is it the control board of the blower or?
Depends on what's going on and not turning on or off. Likely an AC compressor issue or leak. Get it checked out by a professional.
He shot himself in the foot with the modifications
I was Scared at First But Fit Looks Geeat! GOOD JOB!
Great channel. Like you, I'm an enthusiast ...I own a FJ40, FZJ80 and LC100. My wife wants a 60. LOL
This is how i like to find them- stocked and in good condition. I am a fan of the LX 470's.
I have one ,140k on the odometer. The paint failed on the top and hood. Replaced window motor in drivers door. Still runs like new.
Mine is still going strong. There are a few repairs on the horizon though. Steering rack (leak) and new brakes all around.
@ yea I forgot to list it , but I did just a few months back , replace the steering rack because of to much play in my steering wheel. Needed a mechanic for the lift. $1200.
I appreciate all your videos. The DIY stuff as much as the for sale listing reviews. Thank you sir
You are welcome. I unfortunately sold one of the pieces of the audio recording equipment today. That chapter might be closed :(
I’m thinking about buying an old Land Cruiser and your videos provide so much information!
Good luck! Go in with eyes wide open.
Thank you for hatch door lock instructions. Your vise grip approach to the third screw was a lifesaver. It provided just the right torque to get that screw loose.
That's great to hear that it was helpful!
Bought a Nissan pickup from Cincinnati years ago. The interior and exterior looked showroom new. They had somehow shrinkwrapped plastic to the floor carpet. It was like a time capsule truck. I drove it from Ohio to North Carolina on a wing and a prayer. The springs were acting spongy. I took it into my shop (I was young). They said that it was such a bad road rott case that they refused to put it on their lift in fear that it would fall apart and cause bodily injury. One guy said, "If you drove this from Ohio to NC you need to go pay your preacher some more money." They said it was a miracle I made it home. Just stay away from the rust belt if you can at all costs. It's a terrible place for a vehicle to live.
Very helpful video. Thank you for posting.
Glad it helped!

I’m impressed you could talk for 18 minutes about this. My favorite part is how current owners believe theirs are made of gold, yet think everyone is insane for the prices asked.
Thank you, thank you. The same pricing disconnect exists today. It's pretty wild.
Did you ever finish this project? I just entered the quagmire myself with an 80 not nearly as nice. It’s going to be a marathon.
Got it buttoned back up but I had to bail due to my back continuing to give me grief. I couldn't keep my hands off it. Happy to report that the new owner got it painted and has had lots of trouble free trips/miles.
Were you happy with Tough Dogs overall? How does they behave od harsh asphalt? I'm looking for an AHC replacement, but I want something with a proper damping over bumps, potholes etc...
I was happy with ToughDog but they are no longer an option today. You'll have to look elsewhere.
@@thelandcruiserproject Thanks. They're still available in europe, so I take them into consideration.
Just paid 4k for my 03 ac with 321k miles. Needed new tires, some lower arm bushings, rack bushings, and a valvecover seal kit that I already had from my 98 gs400 which has the same gaskets. Had no real frame rust to speak of outside of some surface rust on the axle and where the spare tire rubbed on the frame, a cut spare tire cable, and a tiny bit of rear fender damage with a missing flare, which I'm just waiting for a good junkyard flare to put in and I'ma pdr it myself. Already have it lifted and on 33 inch tires, already have a timing belt ready to put in even though it was done 50k ago I just don't like the gates kit and I'm still under 6k total with the tires f&r lift rancho w/ torch add a leaf and the new CV's considering I already broke them offroading and new calipers/brake lines bcuz my brake fluid was black and clumpy up front and I broke a bleeder screw dropping something whilst removing the swaybars. I bought it less than a month ago.
Wow - that's quite the project. Keep it going!
As someone based in Europe, these prices make me angry. This car would be easily 50% more expensive in Europe.
Did something similar on my rear left once. The motor was fine, but the cog wheel (or whatever it's called) had cracked. I fixed it with epoxy. It worked for 12 months before failing again, so I just bought a whole new actuator assembly (Aisin) off of eBay. I'm about to pull my tailgate actuator out because it's stopped working. I hope it's a simple drop-in fix like this, but you never know. Anyway, thanks for the quick and easy-to-follow video. Nice primer for me before I start pulling shit to pieces! 80 series forever!
Hope you plan on returning, I enjoyed your videos. Any chance I can shoot you a DM? Thanks
Looks like you got a hold of me :)

Hey man wondering if you could help me out I have a 99LC. When I bought it the key was in bad shape so I got a locksmith he cut a new Original key for me and programmed however it rarely ever works to lock or unlock the doors. The guy tried for a while and was not able to figure out why. The motors work since I can lock and unlock from the driver door but I haven’t been able to see why the key fob won’t. Any help is appreciated
Does the key fob work at all for locking and unlocking the doors? You can email me at thelandcruiserproject at gmail for follow up.
Without question those are great seats! but youre right, all importers make up their own brackets and adapters. Instead of buying the german made hardware too and ship it they do some local manufacturing because of....????
I guess Scheel-mann can't be bothered to make seat brackets themselves.

Is the lower cushion/pad same for normal cloth seat and leather seats ?
I'm not certain as there are different part numbers. Here's what partsouq has for my 1999 LC.Notice that there is a leather cushion part number and one that doesn't say leather. 71502-60090 (Leather) 71512-60120 (not Leather?)

@@JAIKISHANMANDANIA How soft is it? Like it's so soft that you got the wrong type? Perhaps the foam gets harder over time and it's meant to be soft? Or perhaps the foam is different if it's meant to be under leather vs cloth.

Does anybody know it the 100 steering wheel fits to 95?
The airbag will be the issue.
@thelandcruiserproject you mean that the 95 airbag doesn't fits to the steering wheel or the 100 airbag haves different plugs and don't fit with the 95

What’s your opinion on a repaint color change? I have a 1994 beige metallic….bad need of a paint job. I’d prefer a different color but a color change is a good bit more expensive than painting the same color
Do it all and right or don't do it at all, especially when changing colors. Unless you are never going to actually sell it to anyone that cares..then do what you want. But if you're not going to sell it..why spend money on paint for something that's already 30+ years old?
I enjoyed the video, the cargo liner in the back caught my attention where's that from if you don't mind me asking?
The cargo liner? What do you mean? The black tailgate cover replacement? If so, I can't recommend it.
Thanks;-)
You are quite welcome.
I bought mine in 2017 for $6500 2006 Doble cab SR5 with 180k I replaced the battery and timing belt and put original tie rods on it. It now has 315k miles on it, and it's still driving perfectly.
Nice! I wish mine had a bit less frame corrosion. Is yours clean?
@thelandcruiserproject I'm in Houston. The truck was brought from amarillo tx so yes. The truck is clean. Is my daily and I work construction. Ohh Im she is at 315k miles.
I recently bought with 184xxx one that identical to this one haha
I bought one 2 years ago, I live in SoCal, it’s was around the same price for one with 92k miles for a White Limited 4x4 Double Cab. Mine definitely was not as clean as this one, mine had cosmetic damage running boards were scratched, headlights were oxidized, Steering wheel leather was discolored, Front seats needed leather replaced, and tires needed to be replaced, fast forward to 2024 it’s all he repaired and I really enjoy it. Prices are higher because we live in CA and Toyota tax on sought after vehicles. Most the other ones I for sale had 150-300k miles on them so I feel pretty confident I’m the purchase.
Well done. It's been a good truck for me thus far. Turning radius isn't great and I wish it were smaller, but it's big enough inside for me - so that's most important.
Did you just fart at 9:38?
Probably! But check out those steady hands!
Is it more feasable at a shop in terms of labor cost to just swap out entire UCA or just ball jionts?
Always cheaper from a time perspective to just replace the whole arm.
Just wanted to say THANKS for making such a helpful tutorial. Your thorough and patient explanation inspired me to tackle this project and I consider myself a newbie with car maintenance / DIY auto-projects. I bought a junkyard wheel for $50 (+ $50 shipping) and had it shipped directly to Craft Customs. Took about 3 weeks to get back to me. Just finished the install -- took me about 90 minutes but that was with a few pauses to grab the right tools. Things I picked up that I didn't have: a plastic pry tool, a torque wrench that went down to 10 lbs., and a 1/2" socket extension. You'll need an extension or deep drive 19mm socket to reach into the wheel. Also, O'Reillys tool rental will loan you a steering wheel puller set for free. I did that and ended up not needing it -- my wheel came off with a little tapping. The cruise control clasp was a little stumper, but came off with a flathead prying up there. Swapping the cruise harness to the new wheel was an easy 2-screw process. No trouble with the horn or airbag either. That wasn't as scary as I thought it might be! One question for you: when putting the new wheel on, do you think you need to get the EXACT teeth placement correctly, or just eyeball it? Now I have my old wheel that I'll either sell on mud, ebay, or maybe send back to Craft Customs to get refinished and then sell. For those wondering, Craft Customs pricing as of May 2024 is $300 for smooth leather all around, $350 for OEM style (leather and perforation), or $700 for leather + wood (Lexus style). Anyways, thanks again, this was a fun project and made me feel great that it went as planned!
I'm glad my video helped you tackle this. That's awesome to hear! There are only so many splines on the wheel and steering shaft, so it's easy to get off by a little bit when you put it back on. If it goes back on the wrong spline and is off, you can either take it off and try to get it set right or have the alignment guys sort that out.
@@thelandcruiserproject Makes sense, thank you! Now on to installing my WKOR sliders that just arrived...a little nervous to bend the brake line, but looking forward to the next project!
Hey! Looking closely at a rebuilt LX450 and this video was super helpful, do you think you could take a look at the sales photos if I linked it to you in the comments?
I see your email. Will respond shortly. Glad the video helped. The TLDR is that rebuilt vehicles aren't worth it.
Do you have the wire diagram for the dashn to show the lockers engaged for the 1999?
I think this is it: drive.google.com/file/d/1wq5GVyy-L2qsokSutUi_d_A31bR8JXX1/view?usp=drive_link There are color versions in the official EWD.
