      That rust is just to much for the money. I'd rather have miles & no rust.

    i like the front end better too than the older 100 series, but i don’t like all that silver plastic on nav/ cluster and down by the shifter, and i would change out my 99 headlights if they were still made of glass lenses.

    My two options when I was in the market was a not well kept rusty 97 LC with 75k miles, or an pristine 06 LX with full records and 238k miles. I chose the latter.

      And how's that been so far? Sounds like you made the right choice.

      @@thelandcruiserprojectso far so good! We baselined it at OTRAMM in central VA two months ago. Went on my first trail ride few weeks ago, works brilliant with 33” KO2 tires. Some stuff I’ve replaced myself like the seat movement control panel. But the paint, frame and overall cleanliness of the car is stellar. I get so many compliments - something I wasn’t expecting. I bought it as a long term project to turn into a touring vehicle and go tour the US in a few years.

    Another grest 100 vid! As far as rear entertainment goes, I would much rather have them in the headrests than a big hole in the headliner. Should be easier to replace or re-wrap those smaller bits, at least that's what I'm looking for.
    This one is very curious, not as much 'visible' rust as you would expect, rear hatch latch looked decent (other than the lower glass area) and you don't really see much coloring on the center diff case bolts (another telltale sign I've started looking for). Also the centercaps are not original to that wheel design. They may have replaced for less corroded wheels or lost/cracked the originals prior to the previous BaT listing. Just leads to more questions...

    Great job as always! As an Illinoisan, I can attest that rust really sucks around here! That’s why I keep my Gx470 garaged in the winter.

      Smart move. What do you drive in the bad weather? The Outlander?

      @@thelandcruiserproject yes, sir! Just sold my Xterra recently, which was my daily driver before. Outlander does surprisingly well, although I haven’t tested in in anything more than 5” of snow, lol. It has a “lock” option to keep the torque going to the rear wheels, so it’s ok in most conditions.

    Just stumbled upon the channel and appreciate what you do! Extremely helpful. I'm in the market for a 100 series and would love some insight on the best websites or approaches to finding rigs to even consider.

    Newbie question but what does small amounts of rust like this mean in terms of vehicle performance or longevity?? The stuff on this truck seems so minor to me

    • @thelandcruiserproject
      @thelandcruiserproject  8 місяців тому

      Minor rust just makes some undercarriage jobs more challenging as you might have to deal with broken bolts or things like that. Mostly just annoyances, but having to replace the part and trying to extract a broken bolt instead of just replacing the part gets old. Needless complications.

    Worst thing about living in the Midwest. Vehicles here are just known for rusting so finding a used vehicle is more or less triaging the “least rusty” examples.

    What do you think a clean 100 series unicorn with no rust and 230k would go for?

      @@thelandcruiserproject last 2 years, non-ahc, no entertainment center. I exclude the nav bit, because it's better option than without and easier to mod/replace with aftermarket screen. Also I have never heard of an real issues with these later models and a bump with 45+ hp. And from the south, with no rust. Basically just like you said in the video & other vids.

      Just confirming :) mileage is high, but I'd guess low $20ks. Depending on the interior condition, stretching up to $25k. Much higher than that someone might as well get an 08-11 with same or less mileage or an 08-11 LX with less than 200k.
