    Yay, I started following Feywild Fiend during Kraken Week 2024. Only started following Dire Den about a month maybe 2 before that.

      I only do voices during Cards Against Humanity, because it is a short time commitment. The best one was sounding like the voices they used to do on Monty Python when one of the comedians were dressed as a woman. For the card, "As the mom of 5 rambunctious boys, I'm no stranger to..."

    Hey, Dire Den! I am a really new to dnd & dming and this video really helped me to make my village actually interesting. I have however a general question about the 'holy object ' and clerics etc . Are there any special actions a cleric , paladin or druid can perform in such a temple? Right now it just feels like "deco" just like houses of other villagers do in a the village. I know that some villagers just want to pray and I have already added a small temple for that reason, but does it have a special benefit for the players? Thank you in advance

    Great video. I'm with you on this 100%. This is a hobby for everyone, no matter your views, race, sexuality, gender, or anything else. It's about connecting with your fellow human being. And that's what people need to remember. We're all humans. We have more in common than we have differences and we shouldn't lose sight of that, no matter what happens that is out of our control.

  • @BanditsKeep

    Well said. If only life were as simple as D&D but we can certainly learn a lot from the experience. Diversity makes us stronger as a society, and society should be built on supporting each other not vilifying the other.

    What I find fascinating is how many times the players actually wrote what happens next. Ended it on red eyes in an alley way? The players talk afterwards thinking it might be that wolf creature from 5 sessions ago you might've forgotten about. Mysterious NPC you come up with on the spot? As the players talk they speculate this is the brother of another NPC from earlier. I find this happens quite often.

    Brad, I agree with you about the hobby and its potential to teach others about everything you said. I have been saying this for decades. When I run horror/dark fantasy it is very dark. When I run a high fantasy game it is just that. Same with low fantasy. No matter what genre or who is playing: bullies, tyranny, and oppressors are in the party's sights. These games look completely opposite from one another. Heroism is the only shared element across every game I have ever ran. Strip the hobby down to its core and this is the foundation. This is the way.

    Here is the problem with calling out politics on a d&d channel. Seems like you only call in one direction and if someone has a different view than yours they are evil. That action reeks of authoritarianism and unwillingness to compromise. Watched the whole video, not subtle.

    • @direden
      @direden 9 днів тому

      @archersfriend5900 It might surprise you that I voted Republican most of my life. So, you might want to watch it again with fewer assumptions about my "one-sidedness." But misogyny and racism are evil... No way around that.

    • @ZeKiwiOfTheNorth

      There's no compromise to be had between one group that's just living their lives, and another group which hates that one's existence.

    • @Grimlore82
      @Grimlore82 9 днів тому

      If addressing the racism, mysogeny, etc in society irks you it may be time to have an honest conversation with yourself about a few things. I should add, subtley is the last thing to be used when discussing these topics.

      @@direden Just to be clear, I didn't say anything about racism or misogyny. You are the one labeling my comment with those hateful terms. I haven't said anything about anyone, just mentioned politics in one direction. Then I was attacked about racism and misogyny. Weird how the election turned out.

    • @direden
      @direden 9 днів тому

      @archersfriend5900 I'm not attacking you. I mentioned racism and misogyny in response to your comment about labeling evil. You said, "don't label other people's views." I responded by saying the views I consider evil are racism and misogyny. I didn't call you racist or misogynistic. In my video, I specifically said, "Your neighbors are not the villains." You are my neighbor. I don't believe you're a villain or evil... I don't know you like that. I do believe racism and misogyny are evil. I make no apologies for that. But when it comes to people who believe those things... my first assumption is they're misinformed. That's what I called Bull***t in the video... Influencers convincing people to hate their neighbor based on misinformation. The only people I called evil (in the video) were politicians and billionaires who get rich off corrupt business practices and the corrupt political process. That's evil. Pitting poor and middle-class people against each other so the rich get richer. That's evil.

    The devil's bargain sounds like it could be interesting. It might be something to save for natural ones, an maybe only in boss encounters, or only in situations where the PCs really needed to turn the tables just to keep it special and dramatic.

    1:00:00 Had to laugh Brad - as a fellow greyhair owner, it is really stupid to be a game spoiler - it sounds exactly the same as "I was best man at my best friend's wedding last weekend, and I got explosive diarrhea in the middle of the ceremony". They think they are doing something cool, but its easy to ruin the game. Far more clever to play your part and realise that it's not just about you.

  • @johnnye87
    @johnnye87 12 днів тому

    I think the "months ago" point is something a lot of wordbuilding misses out that gives a more lived-in feel. If you just have the other two, it implies a world where a bunch of stuff happened ages ago, "then for a long time, nothing happened", then the game started. As if nothing is going on except where the PCs are involved.

    It’s a brutal reality with the different gameplay choices. You guys mention a low cognitive workload player who wants all the work handled by the computer. These people are numerous, but they are playing Top War or Top Heroes, the many AFK games out there. But there is no value for the HOBBYIST that these people join the game. They are not playing a narrative role playing game. They are playing something else. World of Warcraft wasn’t successful because the computer handled the maths. It was successful because it was a different experience for the player. This is fundamental stupidity for Hasbro to mess with that - the narrative aspect of the game is crucial, and it’s fair that it is not for everyone. The beholder is not what makes the game successful. The giants or the mind flayer or the dragons or the dungeons aren’t why the game succeeded. It was the narrative aspect.

    the rule set for me has a different relationship with the fun . As a forever DM, a crunchy ruleset hurts my creativity; it takes too much of my bandwidth to keep a game resembling a game that has a specific set of rules. As far as what gives me the most fun though, it is the people I game with. It has always been about the group for me.

    • @direden
      @direden 24 дні тому

      @Halfogre I completely understand that. I learned that about myself playing 3.5. I could do it... and do it well, but I didn't enjoy it the way I enjoyed 1e and 2e. That's why I really liked 5e when it came out. It hit just the right amount of crunch for me.

      And by the way there were no ethic Germans in Ukraine**, you're confusing it with Czechoslovakia, same goes for Russia (Königsberg wasn't even part of Russia/Soviet Union at that point) while there were some ethnic Germans in the Soviet Union (they had immigrated to the Russian Empire before the Soviets), most of them were just scattered in various parts of the country, what Stalin did was after N@zi Germany invaded it he forcibly moved all the scattered Germans who lived in the Soviet Union to Kazakhstan and Siberia so that they were as far away from the front as possible. **PS: Ukraine wasn't even a country at that point, it was part of the Soviet Union. Ukraine was created in 1993 after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
